The Birth of a Nation 6/10

This film is really overrated. I'll break down the movie into it's two parts.

Part 1 (Civil War):

Pros - Innoffensive

Cons - Boring, uninteresting, and way too long

Part 2 (Reconstruction):

Pros - Less boring and a little more interesting

Cons - REALLY racist, historically inaccurate, and way too long

What we're left with is a bad movie. The point it makes is extremely ignorant and stupid, and was so even when it was released. I understand and could clearly see, however, the film's innovation in cinematography, plot, and editing, and, well, that's really the only reason why I'm giving it a 6.

Woodrow Wilson said this movie was, "like writing history with lightning. And my only regret is that it is all so terribly true."

I see... your comparisons work here.

What I was refering too were those mother who buy sodas and sweets for their children + industrial all-prepared meal and so on... children need a new education nowadays, what means parents need a new one too. ;)

... Cake or brownies ? Must be more than 15 years I haven't bought anything like this !

Yeah, I never buy it. I rarely buy my girls (3 and 5) sweets at all. Of course that doesn't mean they aren't eating that crap in preschool, or at Grandma's house, or even at their mother's house.

PS: if you want to know all the virtues of onions, check the web ! It has too much for I report. ;)

Will do, thanks.

PPS: "check the web" < hey! sounds like an oriental dish.

Maybe? But probably not, right?

You really must have the vertical force with you then. Very good for health, and very good for blood !

good for the blood you say? I know it's healthy, but if I'm honest if it was made of nothing but sugar it would still be impossible to give it up.

I hear what you are saying about people complaining about food prices and then eating garbage, but they do have a bit of a point. Box food is so much cheaper than buying fresh vegetables.

Can of tuna and a box of Tuna Helper = $3.00

box cake or brownies = $1.50 (or less!)

That's why I am in support of food stamps but I think only healthy food should be allowed. You wanna buy cake, it's on your own dime.

What Have You Been Eating?

As a single dad with 50/50 custody, I cook all the time. In fact when my last girlfriend lived with us for 2 years, I still cooked 99% of the time. I enjoy it.

Yesterday I made a turkey sandwich with thick 12 grain bread, tomatoes, mushrooms (sliced thinly but piled up high), lettuce, white onions, a little bit of mayo, and this great shaved turkey that the nearest deli sells. I literally had to smash it down to get it in my mouth. (i realize it isn't cooking just 20 minutes of cutting up fixings but it is what I ate recently

I put raw white onion on everything. I love them and I have this bad habit of eating most of the onion while I'm cutting it up. And I don't do it normally, but I'm known to eat an entire white onion like an apple when my love for them is brought into question. I cry the entire time, but it's happy tears.

Warbler, I do know that Bingo's posts often make little sense at times, but I honestly have never gotten offended by him.  I actually enjoy his bizarre humor.

100% agree, although I can usually understand what he's saying and I enjoy what I don't. Bingowings, is one of the coolest OT guy around.

Considering you're unblocking his individual posts in order to read and respond, you should probably just unblock him.  He's really not too bad a guy.

He's got a point. Come on Warbler, HUG IT OUT! Worst case scenario he offends you and you put him back on ignore.

Here's the difference between internet and real life in my opinion:

I am on IRC a lot of the time for myspleen stuff (visit us and chat awhile #myspleen on dejatoons) and for a while my old girlfriend was also on chatting with me and myspleen folks while I was at work ( mind you most of my post here are also while I'm at work).

A member on the channel made some sexual remarks towards my girlfriend a couple times and after awhile she said to me in so many words that it bothered her to some degree. It was all in fun but still, it creeped her out a little

Now in real life, I'm definitely going to confront this man and it could get physical, right? But since it was online I just asked him to ease up on jokes when she's around and I told her something like "yeah, it's not cool if his jokes are directed towards you and I will say something to him...but it is the internet and if you can't handle some of the things being said on the channel then you probably shouldn't come on as often."

That's the difference in my opinion.

I should point that this guy making the jokes is a someone I've known online for 6 years. I consider him a friend and a couple years ago I even visited him in person when I drove through his town on a family trip. He's a nice guy and he makes a lot sexual jokes. He's pretty much and unnamed Admin on the site.

Splitting hairs is what religion is about.

How else can Anglicans have killed Catholics and vice-versa. They're like the same religion! Mahayana and Theravada Buddhists have murdered eachother over right teaching. Look what Protestants did the Mormons. Hell, SOUTHERN Baptists don't like regular Baptists.

You draw a line (for example, transubstantiaton) and burn anyone who crosses it.

File sharing sites only cost money if you want a premium membership.

It only costs money if you don't want slow speeds and having to wait 15 minutes between each file (and most DVDs are split into 30-45 files). If you are someone that uses RS frequently you are either paying the monthy bill or the most patient person in the world.

Don't get me wrong, even I "pay the monthy bill" and use rapidshare. But there is rarely something on RS that isn't everywhere else EXCEPT fanedits/preservations.

I'm very late to the party but I'm going to give my two cents anyway.

File sharing sites (MU/RS): cost money
Usenet/newsgroups: cost money to get older files
Torrents: FREE (always)

With Megaupload down, I can only assume that similar sites will be on their way out soon.

Newsgroups are nice when I stumble upon a gem from time to time, but most of the time I'm just paying every month and not really getting my money's worth.

Private torrent trackers are pretty damn safe (and no, demonoid is not a private tracker). I can't think of any private torrent sites that have been taken down since Oink and when Oink went down the only guy who got in trouble was the owner, who was arrested and then immediately released (after the UK news media got their story).

The thing is that the second private torrent sites get taken down, they will be up in a matter of days. All it takes is changing the domain and finding a country that will host the site without the worry of being taken down (and there are plenty of those countries).

Of the private torrent trackers that are around, MYSPLEEN is probably the safest for users. We don't keep members' email, IP, nothing. Myspleen also doesn't have a lot of stuff that is commercially available. Many content owners have even uploaded their material on myspleen and when we are asked to take stuff down, we do. For example we had a bootleg of The Book of Mormon musical and when we heard from their lawyer we took it down.

Other countries have different ideas of who Santa Claus is and what he does every year during the Christmas season....but he's still the same guy under different names. Right?

How can people see three major religions all follow the first 5 books from the Old Testament and say they are talking about a different God? I think some of you guys are really trying to split hairs here.

I know all there are fundamentally different, but they all branched from the God of Abraham. Doesn't mean one is better than the other, just means they are all talking about the same dude even if they can't agree about his characteristics (which in my atheist mind makes sense since the guy they are arguing about is made up).

Edit: Didn't see the next page. Looks like I'm a little late to the party.

Tolerate you!?  How dare you slander me like this?  I thought we were totally cool!  This is the thanks I get: such horrid misrepresentation?!  I won't stand for this, and I demand an apology and a hug.

I mean, I do question your religion on a regular basis. That certainly requires some tolerance on your end. :)

Really, finding 11 witnesses in court with such consistency would be enough to put a man in jail.

Yes, 11 would be plenty, but only if the story is reasonable. If 11 witnesses who have never met me see me kill someone in the street I'm going to jail. However, there are events where dozens of people in the same area all saw a UFO, clear as day, on the same night. That's not enough for me to believe in aliens.

And see, I just don't take it the same coming from you (anymore).

I'm glad. :)
