Thanks everyone for your interest. I have been a fan of Dark_Jedi's work for a long time, so as soon as I saw that V3 torrent up on myspleen I was giddy. I personally thanked him for his DVD (awesome) and welcomed him back.

For those of you who want an invite, I have unlimited invites so please don't hesitate to ask. However, I prefer that you PM me your invite request. It's just easier if I only have to check one place to see ho wants invites everyday. Also if you don't use the the invite code I give you in 3 days it will expire. If that happens, don't worry, just let me know and I will give you another one. 3 days is too low in my opinion so I have no problem handing out replacement codes.

I believe that I am all caught up filling invite requests, so if you asked for an invite before this post and didn't get it, let me know.

Thanks everyone!

Edit: I'm all caught up again on giving invites if you asked for one and didn't get one one let me know

My "idea" of the mainstream is that they eat up anything with the Star Wars name on it. They couldn't get the Clone Wars cartoons out fast enough (both the animated and the CG? Clone War shows). It also seems that even the most unlikely movies/TV shows make Star Wars references.

I'm pretty sure the box office numbers for all three PT films were great, but I'm certainly not positive about it. I think if GL said that he made a Sequel Trilogy and it was going to open tomorrow, most people (who I personally would label "the mainstream") would be lining up to see it. I saw all three PT movies in the theater. I was excited for phantom menace but not so much for the second two. I remember each movie filling the seats and I even saw my grandparents at Phantom Menace.

Haha, these are exactly the conversations I was trying to avoid (even though clearly I walked right into it on my own). A lot of you could, and should, teach "Star Wars Theory" courses at your local colleges, and while I have often read entire threads and news on fanedits, I have always avoided signing up and speaking for fear of getting flamed for lack of SW knowledge/passion. Obviously this is different because I just put my foot in my mouth today and Alexrd and TheBoost were probably right to call me on it. I try to be Belgium and stay neutral but it doesn't always work out that way. :)

OK Computer.  To be fair, I haven't heard much recently, but I didn't care for the few albums after OK Computer, and I just sort of gave up - there's too much music and not enough time to keep hoping a band will turn things around for me.

Well if you are going to like one album, I'm glad it's OK Computer. I love Radiohead, but I'm not a huge fan of their early work. It's too "college rock" for me but even then it's still good music.

Radiohead has put out 9 albums in 18 years and not one of them was bad and almost all of them were amazing.

Paul Thomas Anderson has made 5 brilliant films over 15 years without a single slip up.  Christopher Nolan's made 7 in 12 years to the same effect.

Stanley Kubrick made 13 films over a period of 46 years and they were all as close to perfect as a filmmaker could ever get.

I'm not saying everyone should be held to the standards of Radiohead and Kubrick, I'm just saying, it happens.

I agree these all are good examples, but I think TheBoost is right that most artists, filmmarkers, etc, who stay in the game long enough eventually drop a turd. Your examples are probably just exceptions.

Sure the mainstream loves the PT and the new Indiana Jones movie, but that's because the mainstream thinks whatever they told to think.

Really? Any source for that?

You don't think that if they made a 5th Indiana Jones it would be an instant hit because of all the hype and advertising that would go into it? You don't think people ever come to conclusions and form their opinions based purely on reviews, advertisement or hype?

How do we explain hugely marketed and hyped films like "Speed Racer" "Treasure Plantet" "Sahara" or the recent "Mars Needs Moms" all totally bombed?

I don't know. Does that make me completely incorrect on my assumption? Clearly I've overgeneralized and you have called me on that, but I still maintain my own opinion that all too often people get sucked into hype and the opinions of others.

Of course I have no source, it's a generalization made purely from my experience and opinions. You don't think that if they made a 5th Indiana Jones it would be an instant hit because of all the hype and advertising that would go into it? You don't think people ever come to conclusions and form their opinions based purely on reviews, advertisement or hype? Do you think everyone wore leg warmers in the 80s because their legs were just cold?

I'm sorry for speaking in absolutes and not saying "tends to think" or "has a history of thinking" or "often" or whatever statement would offend the least amount of people. I should have explained that it's only my opinion. I also apologize for my poor sentence structure that is clearly missing the word "are."

I'm not saying that I wish GL was dead or that I wish he would die, I just think that by staying in the film business all these years, he has fallen from greatness and damaged his career/reputation in the opinion of a lot of people.

Sure the mainstream loves the PT and the new Indiana Jones movie, but that's because the mainstream thinks whatever they told to think. I know people who love the transformer movies, but fans of the old cartoon series all seem to hate it (as do I). Most people in this world are mindless sheep. They are going to love whatever show is on primetime, which ever movie is on the big screen, and they will believe whatever their news channel of choice tells them to believe (FOX News, CNN, MSNBC). Okay, now it's a rant. :)

When GL dies (assuming he is mortal) I think a lot of people will be upset, myself included. I may despise his recent decisions, but he still gave me Star Wars, Willow, and THX. Just like as a Wisconsinite I will hate Brett Favre until he dies (or until he can stay out of the limelight for more than a week), and only then will I accept him as the great Green Bay Packer he was. :P

Can we think of any artist in any media that had a long and prolific career that didn't have some ventures into mediocrity?

I Martin Scorsese is a great director who is still putting out good films (Shutter Island, Departed, Aviator). I'm not a huge fan of departed, but most people seemed to like it. The only complaint about Scorsese is that Casino and Good Fellas are pretty much the same movie.

Leo DiCaprio is a case of the exact opposite. As a young actor I couldn't stand him, but now I find myself being big fan of his work (Gangs of New York, The Beach, etc). I guess he just needed to be introduced to Scorsese in order to be a respectable actor.

EDIT: I guess I have to take back what I said about DiCaprio's early career. He did a great job in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. "...going back up there, Gilbert"

At this point I think it's pretty obvious what everyone thinks about Lucas and "his vision" of Star Wars, but since I'm new to being an active user I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I look at George Lucas the way I look at some bands/musicians. If George Lucas died in a plan crash in 1990 (or around then) he would be one of the most loved filming figures of his time, but instead he had to live and ruin everything. It's the same with so many bands as well. U2 is easily one of my favorite bands IF they die in a plane crash in the early 90s and don't get the opportunity to put on dumb sunglasses and create horrible music.

If Lucas dies in 1990 we would talk about him the way people talk about Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, etc. What if George Lucas didn't die in that horrible crash? Just think of all of the great movies he could have come out with. He might have even come out with another trilogy!

It makes me glad that some of these people are not around to destroy the legend we had come to love. I wouldn't want Jim Morrison or Hendrix to sober up. Look what happened to Aerosmith when they sobered up (Suddenly pink is their favorite color?) Time does horrible things to people. Just look at Jimmy Page who went from Led Zeppelin to The Firm.

Anyone understand what I'm saying? Or am I just ranting?

Star Wars vanity license plate
Time

A couple years ago I saw Wisconsin plates that read JEDI ENG. My friend and I were trying to figure out what the ENG stood for so pulled up next to him and rolled our window down. The other driver rolled his window down we asked him what it stood for. He said it stood for "engineer" and I quickly asked, "wait, so you are a Jedi Engineer?" By then the light was green and he just laughed, nodded and drove off.

Back on topic, I've got two success stories:

Star Wars : The Making of a Trilogy - DVD #1
Star Wars : The Making of a Trilogy - DVD #2
were stuck at 99.9%. I found the .NFO files; now evilelvis is seeding.

I found images of bh004 & BLAK0041, and seeded both of those.
bh002 is queued

This is great news. It's good to see a few dead torrents spring back to life. I looks like a few things may need to get reuploaded because of missing .nfo files but that's at least a manageable situation. This is certainly a great start. Thanks everyone, now I just need more hard drive space! :)

Mallwalker, where did you find the .nfo files for the Making of a Trilogy DVDs? Somewhere online or in your personal collection?

@walkingdork - last year we relaxed our rules to allow discussion about sharing "Custom DVDs". Such discs for Star Wars typically feature processing to improve the 2006 release video quality, and the addition of extra audio options. Would this type of release be allowed on MySpleen?

Yes. In fact nearly all of the custom DVDs are allowed including your non-Star Wars content. They only Custom DVD I see that might be an issue is the Aladdin Custom DVD because we generally don't allow any Disney related content. Even then I personally think we should make an exception and allow it.

Strange, I had an account on the old myspleen.net tracker, but it doesn't work on myspleen.org . Did you delete accounts of people who didn't log in for a long time ?

Could be. I wasn't admin on the site back in the .net days (just a lowly IRC op). Right now we don't prune accounts unless they have never been used. If you want I'd be happy to give you an invite.

Lucasfilm v. Ainsworth (Stormtrooper Costume) - UK Supreme Court
Time

How can anyone take these kinds of cases serious anymore? Is a Stormtooper helmet a sculpture? Who cares.

If Lucasfilm is going to be this petty there must be a long list of people to sue. Lucasfilm should leave suing everyone to Steve Jobs or the recording industry (who are now suing Limewire for $75 trillion). We live in such a ridiculous time in history.

If there is a scenario where the old torrent can never be reseeded completely because of a missing .nfo file or because no one is able to rehash 100%, we'll just reupload the torrent.

I know that was a huge issue when DAP created their own tracker for all their MST3K files, and MySpeen members had trouble seeding ISOs with their Video_TS files. In that case I just burnt the TS files to DVD, and then extracted as an ISO. It hashed to about 90% which I felt was better than completely redownloading.

In the case of seeding ISO torrents from a burnt DVD, I think you should be able to use any program like imgburn to extract the ISO. In my experience it should hash.

When seeding Video_TS files, you should just be able to just copy the files from the DVD as long as you didn't reencode when you burnt it.

I don't have an account.

I have a torrent I could contribute, but I'm already running it on Demonoid and I don't know if uploading it to a second place is as simple as it should be (never tried it).

I sent you an invite. Just create and upload the torrent using the myspleen announce and you'll be able to seed both torrents using the same file(s). If you have any problems along the way pm me or any other admin/mod on myspleen and we'll help you out. Thanks!

Let me try to eliminate any weariness of our invite-only policy by saying that any and all Original Trilogy members who ask for an invite will get one. Just send me a pm or ask for them on our forum. We will also be having an invite contest soon so I imagine there will be an increase in myspleen invite offers in the usual places.

As I said earlier we a very laid back about ratios but we also have a upload multiplier system where the older the torrent the higher the multipler. For example, if you upload 5 gigabytes on a torrent with an 8.0 multiplier, the amount that will be added to your ratio would be 40gb. The point of this is to give someone incentive to seed older torrents. Every month the torrent is on the tracker, .1 is added to the multiplier.

If there are any suggestions on how we can be more accommodating please let me know.
