Racist Movies You Didn't KnowWere Racist
Time

Questions about racism:

1) What is it, exactly?

2) Why is it OK to make fun of "white" people? (I know the blog post condemned White Chicks - I'm just speaking in general)

3) What are "white" people? (Most people consider Irish and Italians "white", and they had it bad in the late 1800's/early 1900's. It's hard to find an ethnic group that hasn't taken it in the shorts somewhere at some time.)

4) White assaulting black is a hate crime, right? How come the opposite isn't usually considered hate crime? (I think the concept of "hate crimes" is a stupid one, but I ask because we do have them)

5) If over 90% of white people had voted for McCain in 2008, do you all think we would have heard "RACISM" in the media ad nauseum? If you said yes, then why was there absolute silence over the 90+% of the black vote going to Obama?

How deeply rooted is "suck" in the Prequels?

<He has to protect her constantly from danger at every turn.  Every time he saves her, she feels more indebted to him and the gratitude leads her to place him very high in her esteem to the point that she is also in love with him, just as he is with her.>

xhonzi, this is perfect. Putting Anakin and Padme out of harm's way as it happened in the movie denied the story this angle.

Padme, at least in my idea of who the character is, wouldn't allow herself to fall for Anakin based upon attraction alone. She would need another reason, a much more powerful reason, to "break the rules".

Matter of fact, Han grew on Leia because he was willing to do anything at all to keep her safe - rushing headlong into a stormtrooper squad, flying into an asteroid field, attacking a star destroyer, anything.

LOST

Yeah, Psycho Claire is really interesting. A lot more interesting than her previous self. Considerably less hot, however - but of course, evil is ugly, right?

In other news:

  • Jin and Sun are off my radar. I don't care if they get back together or not.
  • Terry O'Quinn is fantastic. Just when it seemed as though he had hit all the right notes with Hapless Locke and Awesome Locke, he's just as good as Evil Locke.
  • Speaking of TOQ, is he not a dead ringer for Harvey Korman? And does Naveen Andrews not resemble Brian from Family Guy if he was neither a dog nor a cartoon?
  • With Evangeline Lilly's hipsless, dudeesque figure and considerable muscle tone, it actually looks convincing when she threatens physical violence. She's one of the toughest dudes on the whole island.
  • I watched this week's episode on-line. I'm going to keep this up until the end. Watching on live TV last week sucked.

The Original Vision Post Trilogy: Special Edition

xhonzi, you're probably unhappy that I have Ernie Reyes, Jr. playing both you and Darth Maul. I know you feel that your character needed an actor dedicated solely on portraying you. Therefore, to mollify your conceerns, in addition to appearing in the cast credits, your name will be highlighted in the closing credits as "Assistant to the Associate Producer". Pretty snazzy, huh?

I don't how I'd classify the following - you're the chronicler, Mr. Frink.

First came this thread. About a week later came this thread. Then came a third thread. A couple of days after that came this thread, followed by this thread. I wonder if I missed any?

So...?
