ROTJ's comparisons look very nice indeed there Omen, hope to see those stills in motion some day, lolz.

Patience, grasshopper. ;)

Interest in this SW project based of the amount of feedback has been very limited to say the least so when I am able to get these up, I'll be honest with you guys, the LOTR films will be at the top of the list, firstly because its the first project I worked on and FOTR EE is the real reason why I started this colour correcting business in the first place. Secondly and most importantly, Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition is the only film out of the ones in question that REALLY NEEDED its transfer modified IMHO, all the others are colour changes or edits that the majority of people will not even notice/won't care about.

Don't mistake a lack of feedback for a lack of interest. Many people will lurk and keep tabs on threads and projects they are very interested in without ever posting that they are. :) Trust me if you one day share this then it would get plenty of downloads.

I think it's been documented that Yoda's original latex skin rotted away years ago.

There was a photo of an ILM storage area in Smithsonian Magazine in the 90's and a half rotted Yoda skin could be seen lying on a work table. Kind of a gruesome sight!

Fair Enough. So the Offical Yoda puppet or "creature" on display at the Lucas Ranch is a recreation. That's still doesn't preclude the possiblity that is not an accurate recreation.

To me Yoda should look less blue-green. But let me make this perfectly clear. This only my opinion. I know and accept that my opinon has no bearing on ADYWAN"S edit. But I am free to voice my opinion here, am I not?

Just taking a quick look out in Google Land here are a few pics that look more like I remember Yoda looking.

As compared to this...

It is my hope that Adywan will take some time and reconsider the color choices he's made for Yoda. The color differences alone in Yoda's outfit and hair color are striking...surely I'm not the only one here that thinks this?

Star Wars is rendering right now, it will be done in a couple hours, then we(You_Too & I) will fix some of the bad frames, then I will go to work on the audio, then we are going on to Jedi, it has less bad frames, Empire is by far the worst so we will do Empire last.

Are we approaching the time when we could see some screencaps?  I'm excited to see the new colors (and the burnt-in subs, but that's just me).

Catbus, if you have been reading this thread at all DarkJedi has said over and over again he doesn't do that. You'll have to wait like the rest of us.

Of course if we are going off the Lucas Ranch models then check this out.

Sorry Adywan. But I think going off what someone's pics of Lucas Ranch models as something that is gospel might be troublesome at best. Or is it?

Both the Yoda model and the Tie model pics from the Lucas Ranch are claimed to be the actual real models used in the film. So why match the Tie fighters in the film to the Lucas Ranch Tie colors and not Yoda?

Just to spur more debate*:

One of the GeekDads was at ILM this week and got this picture. Definitely obviously blue. I believe Ady is going to attempt the blue the fighters in ANHRHD.

If you think that the tie model in that pic is "Blue" you might need to check your eyes for color blindness...lol

Come on now its not blue. The reference frame beneath it is but...

If Adywan's ties were the same shade of blue-grey that the model is then maybe the debate would fade some.

The only problem I see for now is the frame fixing that was doing on my almost V2 lol, depending on how I feel about it, and if You_Too wants to help on that, it was all for nothing, because the color is so dramatically different this time around, and we cropped it much better, so none of what I had before can be used, so it has to all be done over, or I will just leave the video "as is".

That's completely up to you. Make it the way you want it. Doesn't matter what anybody else might think or say about it. It's your work and time that has gone into it. Make it the way you want it. Congrats on a job well done and I still can't get over that sick rig of yours....

Probably, yes. When it comes to encoding this, I'm gonna need some advice by some more knowledgeable members here to make sure everything is as it should be to be compatible.

My recommendation is that for the MKV, break compatibility for the sake of quality and compression efficiency. That is, except for software encoders. Go for 16 refs, 16 bframes, any other specialized non-compatible good setting x264 has, etc. This will break the decoding compatibility for pretty much everything except software encoders on a PC, but it will improve the quality and bitrate efficiency by a significant amount. I also recommend ditching the 2pass bitrate for the more advanced CRF setting, which produces unpredictable filesizes because it analyses the video and gives it the bitrate it needs for the specified value.

If people need hardware compatibility (DXVA etc) then they can get the AVCHD and play it on their PC, no? :)

Anyways, I know my way around x264 pretty well so I can probably help with any compression questions you may have. I also recommend ditching any encoding GUI and going for frequently updated commandline builds which in addition to being more frequently updated also give you full control of what settings to mess with and tune. I use JEEB's custom build @ x264.fushizen.eu

Also, since you're going to be using MKV, you could include fun stuff like soft subtitles of the original English version for multiple languages, multiple language tracks in a more effective compressed format like OGG or AAC (=good quality+not much space taken up), and a lossless FLAC encoded audio file of the 2.0 Laserdisc mix that's used as the basis for the 70mm recreations. I also think you should softsub the Greedo subtitles unless you're making them look very specific. But even then, .ass/ssa subs (+Aegisub editor) have a lot of features and allow you to use various fonts and move the subtitles around the frame on a per-line basis, etc. I do anime stuff so that's why I know a lot about encoding, subs, and containers. :D

Unrelated question but for the 2.0, are you still using recompressed sources (HDTV/BD rips etc) or untouched sources (BDMVs, HDTV transport streams, and such) ? I haven't been keeping up with 2.0 much unfortunately. :(

I hope you don't mean that NMT's like popcorn hour would be incompatible as well? That would suck.

Actually guys I might have found what's wrong. Just waiting for DJ to see the pm and reply!

After googling around I found this guy who had plugged his keyboard and mouse into the USB 3.0 inputs on the back of his motherboard and tried to install windows 7. He described it just like DJ, that it "froze" once the first install screen comes up and he couldn't use the keyboard or mouse, since windows 7 doesn't have native USB 3.0 support.

With all my heart, I hope this is what's wrong since it's so easily fixed.

Bingo! Yep. Damn it why didn't I think of that? Makes perfect sense. I have had keyboard errors too at boot. At least now DJ can stop tinkering with it and have some fun with it finally.

I know you don't need any help but with all that ram I'd take out all but one stick, ( or do they have to run in pairs?) and try that. The other thing possibly hanging is your video cards. Try running just one for install.

And last but not least boot into safe mode and installing windows from there might help.

Still a no go, I used You_Too bios settings, and removed all but 1 4GB stick, and removed 1 video card and sli bridge, and it still will not install friggin Windows 7.

Looks like I have exhausted all suggestions, damn this sux!

I hate to say this but...it is possible that it is a memory issue but not the memory's fault. I really hate to say this but becuase of the way it is failing it might be a bad main board. The main board could be a dud. But please don't go and rip everything apart just yet. You really want to wait and do that as a last resort. Do you have a known good memory stick that you could try? It just really sounds like a memory problem to me.

Also if you have a large enough USB thumb drive you could install Win7 onto it and then tell your bios to boot from USB and see if your new rig can run off the stick. even in safe mode with networking or something.

Sorry again about the problems with your rig, but you'll get it fixed, its just a bitch right now and kinda takes the fun away for a while...been there.

the Revisited pane looked a little blue in the Luke and Yoda training bit...

Yep this is the end of the world as we know it. Hell has frozen over. I actually agree with fishmanlee on something.

Thanks to the red shifted and faded GOUT and the abominations that are the DVD & Blu-Rays, the true colour of dagobah has been lost. But thankfully i have been privileged to have the opportunity to work on Puggo's latest 16mm transfer of ESB, which is a glorious print and you would be surprised just how great the colours of the original version of ESB looked. As you can see here Revisited is pretty close to how this movie originally looked all those years ago (thanks to Puggo for allowing me to post the screenshots from his version)

Another thing is the skies during the approach to Cloud City. The whole scene on the blu-ray/DVD has had a strong red filter added. But the skies were originally blue in most of the shots.

Oh and here is the second clip:

http://hotfile.com/dl/143871694/e7dfef2/clip_2.rar.html

Thanks for the comparisons Adywan. Yes when you set them up like that it is striking to see the differences.

And after seeing your Dagaboh comparison I like what you did and can appreciate how you see the colors....but I wish every time I see R2-D2 that his red eye was indeed red. It seems like (in any edit) its always some shade of purple or pink or even a light red instead a vibrant brilliant red. R2-D2 red eye in the Puggo example looks more like what I hope to see in any edit.

Also while I have your ear thank you Adywan for your continued efforts on this. I always like how bright and striking your star fields are in your edits and after seeing your latest clip you didn't disappoint. Thank you Adywan.

Ok, but you're doing a great job anyway. The workprint looks really good! I hope I can look at it a bit more some other day and see if I can help spot more things.

By the way, if comparing those shots in the second pic in the GOUT, they're even more inconsistent. Check this, it's from my script for DJ's project:

http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/1589/gout1.th.png

If I had to choose one I'd have to side with the top pick. Both seem like extreme examples though.
