I would hope that those few of us who know how to get in touch with Laserman or his family would from time to time let them know we are all thinking of him and are praying for him........

Adywan's paypal info is on page 198 of this thread, and DVD-5 image fits on a single layer DVD where a DVD-9 image can be twice the size and fits on a dual layer disc.

I noticed there something different with her voice too, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it, somehow it seemed more natural to the original american over-dub even though it was the same?

It's one of the documented changes to this edit. Look on the front page under "Audio".

Oh no. Did i just sound like a certain GL when i said that the only the revised special edition will be available in high quality on DVD.

Sorry, when you said you would be doing no more work to the edit, that made me think you were done. So it will be like a month for the DVD?
Thanks!

Dude, it will be done when its done....chill out before you annoy the hell out of Adywan and everyone else.

Ady, are the Death Star interiors somehow more desaturated on the Xvid than they will be on the DVD? I just started noticing this last night on my third viewing (someone else mentioned it pages ago, but I can't find the post). Most of the interior shots appear to be desaturated all the way to grayscale. So it's like a black and white movie in the background with maybe a few faces and panel lights in color. Vader almost always appears in total monochrome, with the exception of his lights.

Now... this could easily be my video card, I could be seeing it wrong. And I didn't notice this at all my first couple of viewings. But once I started seeing it, I had a hard time *not* seeing it in a high percentage of interior shots, and even during the DS battle (which is so awesome I rewound it three times... again!). Are my eyes playing tricks on me?

At least I didn't mention either flippers or TIEs!

Ron Moses

The interiors aren't all the way down to monocrome, there is still a hint of blue, but i always wanted the interiors to be grey .When doing the colour correction i tried bringing the blue down so it would match shot to shot but it created more problems. Some areas were so oversaturated that when i got parts to look the way i wanted there would be blue patches here and there and it also created video noise. Also some shots were almost monocrome when removing the blue tint so i had to set a medium and the only way to get it looking to what i wanted it to was to remove the blue from the walls so no patches existed. So inevitably some of the subtle blue tints were lost ( not that they were even there in the first place in some scenes due to the horrible colouring of the 2004 DVD). I mentioned about this before when i explained about the monocrome cockpits in shots during the Death Star trench run. I like the more monocrome look and thats all that matters to me

Now in a very sick way, Adywan knows how George feels. There's just no way to please everyone.

You got it exactly right there. there seems to be a lot of nit picking going on which totally took the buzz i had for having finished it. the whole flipper debate just became stupid. One thing that really bugged me is that a lot of people slam lucas for using CG for things that could be created using real world items but suddenly there is enthusiasm to use a CG created flipper instead of a real item. i know totally how he feels now. damned if you do, damned if you don't. i need to finish off these dvd's, get them out and forget about star wars for a while (apart from something i'm working on For jambe) otherwise the way i'm feeing at the moment ESB is a dead project. i'm just happy that the majority like what i've done. i knew i'd never be able to please everyone, but come on.. It a bloody edit that was created at home and not a studio job. I'm not a miracle worker and there were bound to be shots that don't look like a true hollywood movie. I only started trying to do Fx work about 14 months ago and i had never even touched After effects until after that. I'm 99% happy with it so i'm not really that bothered is others want to pull it apart. . The constructive criticism i like and its that which has helped me throughout the edit, it s just the plain bashing saying shots look like shit or that have got me to the point i'm at now.

Adywan,

Man, I beg you to not make any rash decisions right now. Anybody who doesn't absolutely LOVE what you have done can go fuck themseleves. Adywan, you my friend are fucking light years ahead of what 99% of the people on this forum could do....and the work on SW Revisited shows it.

It just stupid and sad that people have to go and ruin what should be a refreshing fun time for you.....I say fuck anybody that has a problem with your edit....they can go and try editing the movie for themselves then.....

Please don't listen too hard to the complainers....listen to your heart. You know you did an awesome job and so do the majority of people who have seen it.

...Tour de Force...

We all know that ady is incredibly talented, so I won't go on gushing about that. I've spent the last 2 or so hours watching and being amazed. When I saw the 97 SE in the theater, I remember being so incredibly disappointed. It was so cheesy and poorly done. I wanted so desperately to be impressed with GL's new monster, but I was given the middle finger instead. I never even bothered to see the 97 Empire and Jedi in the theater after that. Well, earlier this afternoon I had the feelings I wanted to have 11 years ago when watching an "SE". There are so many little subtle things that were great (interrogation droid needle for example!). I'm sure I also missed tons of others and look forward to discovering them. I watched it alone and I literally let out a loud "Whoa!" at the DS TIE attack. THAT'S what I wanted 10 years ago! I have never been more proud to be a member of this forum than right now. Adywan, thank you for letting us be a part of this... I don't think any of us realize the kind of waves and impact this edit is going to cause. This is truly a watershed moment in the fanedit community and beyond...

P.S. It was also pretty weird (and cool) to see my name in the same grouping of credits that included Ralph McQuarrie. Thanks! it's an honor to have contributed something to this amazing piece of work...

You are always so well spoken MoveAlong. I especially agree with, "I don't think any of us realize the kind of waves and impact this edit is going to cause." I wonder what the cast members would think about LFL's SE effort compared to this..... waves and impact indeed.

The producers wish to "thannk" the government of Tunisia,..........

I wasn't going to mention it but you asked Adywan.....quite frankly the movie is so brilliant in every way I personally could care less about a rare misspelling in the credits......

You have outdone yourself Ady....you really have. Please excuse me now....I have to find my 04'DVD and do something nasty to it.

I'm sorry if I pissed you off in any way PaulisDead2221. Your work is amazing. Its just that to me shouldn't the black of space match the black of the upper and lower bars? Because I can really see a stark contrast there. The bars look almost completely jet black....maybe that's what is tricking my eyes.....the black bars are making the shots look grayer than they really are? I worried about bringing this up, but your work is so good I didn't want to not say anything and be disappointed.....

Regardless, please don't take anything I said harshly, you and others here arte doing things on your computer I could only dream about doing....

I thought I just drop in some shots of the recreated crawl I'm working on. It was proven by the most scrupulous of nerds that the GOUT original crawl is, in fact, the original 1977 crawl and not a digital recreation. Given that, I took a screen of the blank HD star-field from the broadcast source, put the GOUT crawl over the starfield, luma-keyed out the black space on the GOUT, chroma-keyed out the white stars, and boosted the red and green on the remaining matte to give that yellow/golden color we're all used to. The Star Wars logo you see receding in the back is from the Spanish language angle on the 2004 DVD, which does recede at the correct speed. The results I'm getting are pretty good, though in motion stair-casing develops as the matte starts to recede into the back, and I should probably try to bring out more stars in the back, but overall good progress.

Well most of the shots are done before and after the Death Star sequence. Battle of Yavin is done, Tatooine, Tantive, Mos Eisley, and most all the other sequences are done. I've even done some cool things with the Alderaan/Death Star explosions, luma-keying and chroma keying out the space from the GOUT, leaving just a matte of the explosion that I put on the HD star-fields which hopefully will look rather nice. I need to carefully run through and manually color correct this thing still (getting better and better at this).

Right now I'm just wondering how many sound-mix projects have been synced to the GOUT. I edited my project to sync frame by frame to the GOUT, so I'm looking for every audio mix I can shove onto the disc. Does anyone know a comprehensive list? I know the wonderful restored mono mix syncs to the GOUT, and the several projects that have come from both Belbucus and Molly (though where these may be obtainethed is a mystery ). If anyone knows/has, it'd be a great help.

Are you going to adjust the black level as well? The black of space on the screen shots look a little grey to me. What do you think?

Ah ok. Don't quite know what your problem is but....about ConvertXtoDVD is concerned, I never said it was or wasn't freeware. What does that matter? And as far as bitrate is concerned that's adjustable as well within the program....JHC some people.
