THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now

alt.binaries.starwars is the address to a newsgroup on Usenet. Most ISP's have free USNET access, although usually they are very slow and capped off compared to your regular line speed....so most people choose to pay for faster access...ie. "giganews"...there are others...

You also need a newsgroup reader to access the paid server and download the files...I use Newsbin.

Better than what? Better than the original image? No way. Anybody who buys into that is completely insane. YOU CANNOT ADD DETAIL AND THERE BY HAVE A BETTER QUALITY IMAGE BY UPCONVERTING.......PERIOD.

Now you can upconvert with software better than a TV or DVD player's firmware can but in no way does upconverting and using any combination of filters add to the amount of detail in the image.

As an example...take the 2004 SW EPIV DVD and upconvert it to HD....use any filters or software you want, and it will still not look as good as the brodcasted HD version...

Screencaps of the changes ect would be nice. When people get it of course :)

There are no changes for EPIV (apart from taking out Greedo shooting first along with correcting & adding some colour to Lukes sabre). Just colour correction. Screencaps can be found on the first page

Thank you Ady. Your color corrected caps make the movie so much easier to look at. Can't wait to see the whole thing in natural color and in HD.

Nothing about the 1980 version of Empire Strikes Back sucked. It was a seminal moment in film history where everything came together in the end in complete narrative and aesthetic synergy. There are only a handful of films that can boast such perfection (e.g. Lawrence of Arabia) At the end of the day, were there a proper anamorphic DVD transfer of this original 1980 version, there would be no need for Adywan to even work on this film. As it is however, sadly, there is no proper DVD and hence Adywan must take a not-so-special edition and make it special so we can have something that is presentable on a modern home theater.

Whether you like the prequels or not, I believe it is very shortsighted to declare that simply because something is 28 years old means it must be updated and changed. At its very essence, Empire Strikes Back is THE ONE AND ONLY Star Wars film that did work seamlessly right out of the gate. The film was the product of a courageous script, brilliantly directed and produced with groundbreaking effort and convention-breaking choices.

Star Wars, while a narrative success certainly, suffered from the compromised budget that left many of its optical effects lagging far short of intentions (which Ady has now admirably corrected). Return of the Jedi was always only one-third the movie it was originally intended to be, and the special edition only complicated the matter. Phantom Menace was a racehorse that tripped out of the gate and limped around the track. Attack of the Clones was, aside from 10 minutes in the middle, an insipid intelligence-insulting love farce. Revenge of the Sith was, in many ways, the most troubled and negligent film of them all - the one without any excuses and yet even after almost six hours of time in previous films to tell the story of Anakin Skywalker, the creators waited until the last 20 minutes of Sith to finally get around to the essential story in a series of truncated scenes tacked on to the end in wipes while blatantly ignoring major sections of established continuity and throwing those to the wind.

The Empire Strikes Back is the only film without either fatal narrative flaws or compromising technical errors. It is "Star Wars" fully realized and the way it was originally intended, no matter what revisionist history you believe. So, if spaceship interiors a movie make, then have at it. For me, there's nothing wrong with the ship interiors, they look amazing - and probably because like every other single element of Empire Strikes Back, they all service the story and not the other way around.

Ady, my apologies for waxing poetic about this in your thread. Feel free to delete at your leisure if this offends you.

If I was a betting man I would lay odds that Adywan agrees with everything you said.....I sure do.

Once again you put to words what the majority of us feel. Props to you my friend.

Does comcast throttle your bittorent and rapidshare downloads from fanedits.org?
Time

Yes Comcast is notorious for screwing with torrent conections...however remember that your cable speed can also vary depending on your local nodes load at any given time....

I'm on charter's cable service and every 4-6 months my line speed starts to slow down at peak times until charter decides to expand the bandwidth at the local node or however they do it....then it's fine for another 4- 6 months until there are too many new subscribers once again....

Ady, your ANH:R looked awesome!...I don't know how you did it but the image quality was better than the source, at least to my eyes....I don't think anybody who is a fan of your work is going to be too concerned about having ESB:R and ROTJ:R in SD....I know I'm not..

You're an artist Ady.

I don't know what serials you've been watching, zombie84, but the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials were well made

Uh, when you can see the strings holding up the models I don't count that as well made. The serials were twenty minute Ed Wood films. Terrible acting and writing, most of the sets were cheap, bad special effect cutaway and formulaic plotting. The Flash Gordon series had a few cool sets because they re-used the stages from The Mummy and Phantom of the Opera, so that series has some acceptable production design there, but theres really little well-made about them. They were crude and cheap, especially the typical ones.

Even as a kid, I can remember thinking how fake the Buck Rogers sets looked...with all the plaster rocks and fake "high tech" ....I was pubescent pre-teen and only wanted to watch Buck Rogers because of Erin Grey...
