I think it's a foregone conclusion Simon Pegg will get his friend J.J. to cast him in this. To me it just seems too obvious to not happen.

As he's a huge fan of the OT (although an outspoken critic of the Prequels), I was originally resigned to this possibility too.

I like Pegg, but unless he's just given say, an unrecognisable cameo as a background character under some heavy make-up...then he'll end up 'taking me out' of this next instalment quicker than TPM's opening scroll did!

So I'm personally hoping he means what he says here on the issue - http://www.express.co.uk/news/showbiz/419070/The-World-s-End-star-Simon-Pegg-not-keen-on-JJ-Abrams-reunion-for-Star-Wars-Episode-VII

Well, given that he gave nearly the exact reasoning JJ Abrams gave when denying his interest in Episode VII, we'll see how long this last.

Help Wanted: Can someone make an Opening Crawl for me?
Time

So I was bored and put it together, with minor edits to the crawl text to make it fit within my template. No motion blur on the render save for the logo zoom in, since I didn't want to lose an entire day on my computer, though if you have After Effects, I can send you the folder to render yourself with motion blur, but here's a link. It's rendered at 30fps, 16:9 1080p, with the assumption this is for YouTube and and won't be shot in 2.35. It has a pan down to a stylized Earth, so if you're shooting on Mars or something, you're shit out of luck. If you want, I can re-render it at full 4k resolution un-cropped or something though. If you ever to future videos in this series, I'd be happy to make another, though I suggest mimicking the writing of an existing crawl, particularly A New Hope upon which my template is based in terms of key framing (It messes with the exit of the crawl if you go longer) in terms of character/word count per paragraph and capitalization. I didn't do this when I wrote mine, and looking back, it bothers me looking at the actual crawls with 4 words per line, and then my version with 6-8 words. It's kinda crazy how the crawl spend an entire minute on maybe 3 or 4 short sentences.

And how Episode VII will be shot, ideally. Looking forward to this greatly.

It'd be awesome if they got some old Panavision cameras for shooting. 099l-'-

Also, the green sabers look unusually forest green in the YouTube clip of Utapau. Maybe it's just been to long since Jedi, or the Blu-ray coloring makes it looks wrong and I'm not compensating for that right in my head, but I remember the green saber in the OT being lighter and more of an acid green.

The clip of the opening battle looks excellent though.

Not a gamer.  For no reason in particular, it just never interested me.

Pity. I think you are missing out on some great EU.

But on the other hand, it doesn't hurt if you are not aware of it. :)

Great EU here meaning the KotOR games, and Republic Commando if you can tolerate the prequel era and from what I hear the Jedi Knight series.

Do you have access to Adobe Illustrator or After Effects? I'd happily supply a template that you could use if you are able to layout the text yourself. Only thing is it's set to render for non-anamorphic 2.35:1 4k at 24fps. It's all setup though, you'd only need to modify the Illustrator templates to fit your plan and render it out.

This is what it looks like rendered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN5-H1EHLKA

If you don't, I can probably do a quick job with the logo and crawl text and render however you need it, though the starfield get's really washed out on YouTube and I really don't have plans to go the effort of setting up a new one.

Recently watched Seven Samurai, American History X, the Pianist, Casablanca and Django Unchained.

Fascinating to see how the way we read lines has evolved. Had to struggle to comprehend dialogue in Casablanca due to accents and rapid delivery, and in Django Unchained it was hard to not understand anything.

Ben Affleck cast as new Batman

DominicCobb said:

The other good thing is that Ben Affleck is very likely to direct either JL or a stand alone Batman movie (my guess would be the latter).

I kinda hope there is no Batman standalone, especially if DC isn't gonna pull a Marvel and do two a year as far as movies go. Too many DC characters deserve a movie that haven't had 7 made already, more if you include Adam West and the serials. I'm hoping Batman is kinda like Nick Fury or Coulson in the MCU, in everything, but the star of nothing.

WATER TEMPLE! You've haunted me since 1998. Now I've returned and you're still the same ol' soggy bitch you were back then. "Go do this! Now come back and do this! Now go do that! And come back and do this again!" AARG!
Supposedly the 3DS version has color coding to make it easier to figure out. I don't think I made it that far before my eyes fell out.

It is indeed color coded and market. You can also set the Iron boots to the touch screen, which makes the temple super easy, especially if you're like me and did a low heart run.

I personally only felt ROLA was a 'proper' Indy film, the others had fun bits in them but they felt more like spoofs than sequels/prequels.

The OT are two and a half good films so I was more miffed by the PT particularly TPM though AOTC is a worse movie it didn't quite sting as much.

Interesting. I've heard Adam Savage make similar comments on his Tested videos, which I highly recommend.

Perhaps it's best to say that Indy IV was more dissapointing as an Indy movie than the prequels were as Star Wars movies, but I would certainly argue the prequels were more dissapointing as movies than Indy IV was as a movie. Spielberg's worst is still better than Lucas.' I wish Steven had directed TPM.

I think it's this. I have two separate rankings for the Star Wars saga, one as Star Wars movies, where RotS somehow topples Empire (Not by much mind you, and it being the first Star Wars movie I saw as a Star Wars fan), and one as movies where Empire shoots RotS, and laughs at its dead corpse.

Actually, I find it fascinating to look back and realize I became a real fan sometime after AotC, presumably because of it, though looking back it is my least favorite. I think the transformative moment that cemented that one day I'd spend time on a message board dedicated to Star Wars was when I made a Lightsaber hilt out of PVC pipe. Also, I loved, and still do love, Kit Fisto. I'm pretty sure at some point in my life, when I can afford to drop a grand on cosplay, I'm gonna do a custom made Kit Fisto costume. God, do I want a Nautolan in Episode VII. Such a cool design. I kinda wanna punch George or whoever decided to botch it up in RotS.

KOTCS is a load of old cock though.

As a self-admitting prequel apologist/lover, even I don't acknowledge the existence of Indy 4. Then again, by the time that came out, I had knowledge of Indy, what was awesome about it, and had a decent grasp of movies by then, whereas the prequels introduced me to Star Wars, so I'm naturally more lenient of them (Except AotC) and maybe Indy 4 is just a mediocre movie, rather than truly despicable. Nah. I used to love AotC, now I hate it.

New screencap from Utapau in ROTS:

I think I did a really good job at making the CGI look a lot less CGI-ish and more like physical objects.

I love it, but were the rocks not an actual model and not CG?

If I recall correctly from the featurettes on the DVD, they build a large model of the sinkhole, and scanned it in as CGI.  Can't remember if it was used physically for anything.

Since plotwise, Yoda wouldn't have to do much more than stand around looking all glowy and see through, recreate the ESB puppet, and get it right this time!

Frank Oz ought to come back in any case if it ever happens.

Hope so, no matter how much Frank loved the CGI Yoda. On the other hand, last time they tried to recreate the puppet it didn't work so well. If Frank's not up to it though, Tom Kane has proven himself worthy.

The best time to read Atlas Shrugged is pretty much never. You're not going to get more out of the game by having read Atlas Shrugged or any of Ayn Rand's other books first. Yeah, it is a dystopian using a failed objectivist society as the backdrop, which is completely awesome, but as long as you have some grasp on the concepts of objectivism you're not going to miss out on that angle of the story.

Not to dis on Atlas Shrugged, it is just kind of a long tedious read, and it really isn't that great.

Ah. I was planning to read it anyway, as I have libertarian leanings figured it might be good to do before Bioshock. If it doesn't really require more than basic knowledge of objectivism then, I'll just start Bioshock and do Atlas Shrugged another day.

I'm not much of a writer, but I want someone to write some of my ideas into fanfic because I think it would be cool.

Amidala's handmaidens were clones, the Nubians were the originators of the technology, thats why the queens decoys fooled everyone.

Palpatine raids the planet to commandeer the cloning facility. Jedi Knights twart his plan.

Annakin is trapped somehow and used for cloning because of how powerful he is as a Jedi..

I feel that cloning force-sensitives is one of those things that should never have been explored. For all the complaints about the midi-chlorians, it's still pretty clear to me that reducing the force down to such a level is a sign of how flawed the Jedi Order had become in the prequels. Cloning Force-sensitive genuinely reduces the mystery and uniqueness of the Force, and feels cheap. It's a dangerous route to go down for so many reasons (See all instances of cloning Force-sensitives) in EU. It just diminishes the impact. Force Unleashed 2 was awful for this reason, I hate the plot of Dark Empire and any other Palpatine clone books because of it. Ugh.
I'm definitely interested in the concept, sounds kinda like infinities, though I'd rather the prequels be avoided altogether than redone. I think the story might work better that way.  In general, if I'm reading some piece of fan fiction, and it descends too far into trying to change some aspect of something that isn't really necessary, it comes across as arrogant, and pulls me out of the story.

Owning a PS3 and having used it very little, I decided I needed to check out some of these exclusives that PS3 fans are always on about.

I've yet to try Drakes Fortune Myself, but I really loved Uncharted 2. IMO, the best exclusive is MGS4 though. I chose a PS3 over a dedicated Blu-ray player based on that game and LittleBigPlanet.

People love Uncharted because of it's "cinematic" gameplay based on what I've heard people say about it. I like it's puzzles, humor and storytelling and obviously the cinematic approach. I absolutely loved the I could play Last of Us with no HUD. Been to long since I played Uncharted to say if the HUD goes away after a while.
