Attacking others to deflect away from the content of your own posts? Good job!

I think I’ll keep on scrolling past your posts.

Two of us each have a number of forum memberships and social media from years before, a decade even, before joining up here. + Keyan is who he said he is from his pre-covid socials. From your posts it appears you knew that when you made your insult, and then doubled down on it afterwards.

Your claims are something that have previously occurred on here, by others also trying to deflect away from their own actions and posts. Those false claims were disproved then, and these new false claims above have now been disproved above too. According to others here who saw through both the previous and this latest round of horseshit the accusations were made by previously banned users, friends of, or people who’d previously burnt their britches here. Caston & Keyan have already left here, and now me also. This forum is awesome, as nearly all the users are on here, but it does obviously have a small dark poisonous clique, a cancer. I hope that gets cut out or removed, for the benefit of everyone else here and for the forum itself.

I now see why you chose to try and shift the discussion onto slurring others, rather than own the rancid views you posted above. You do you.

They have claimed a stop motion creature would replace the actor in 1977, but Phil Tippet didn’t get instruction on designing Jabba as a ‘Sidney Greenstreet’ type character until later…

Yeah , and there’s something suspect about the whole narrative . In the 1983 Documentary , From Star Wars to Jedi The Making A Saga , they go over it and show a part of the scene as originally shot with Decan Mullholland and then show a storyboard of what the intended creature effect of Jabba was supposedly going to look like , superimposed over the human figure on the storyboard . Giving the impression that it was an archival piece of artwork from the time of the shooting of the original film , except if you look closely , you can see what appears to be Salacious Crumb on the ground next to Jabba ! The little guy was never talked about , seen ,or mentioned until 1983.

Yeah, the whole thing stinks of another George retcon and him trying to alter history yet again.

The “Category No. 9 • Jabba originally was a human; from planning to filming…” of the George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist thread really lays it all out quite well. With quotes from the people involved at the time, the guy who thought up and designed Salacious Crumb in 1981/82, the drawings, George’s changing to the scripts after the fact to insert a description of Jabba later being a “slug like creature”, and about that 1983 Documentary.

Thank you and I agree, it is more pleasant and cordial in here.

Although is there a specific thread in “Off Topic” that already discusses these issues, to look at and learn from, and explains why racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism or other such similar ignorance and hate falls into the bracket of being “politics” on here?

I don’t believe anyone has claimed racism, homophobia, transphobia, or sexism are political. That’s just simple hatred and bigotry.

What is political are topics like racial justice, representation and diversity. None of which belong in this section of the forum. But are welcome topics to be discussed in the Off Topic section.

Feel free to start a thread about any and all of them in the appropriate section of the forum. Unfortunately I did give fair warning about derailing this thread further so that will have to wait until at least a week from today.

You banned her for that? What the hell, man? She wasn’t derailing the thread, she was simply asking you, as a site moderator, if you could link to an existing thread in Off Topic to read up on the subject that you mentioned, in more detail, to continue the conversation in the very place you told her to. Yet she was obviously struggling to find such a thread where you told her to go.

Is it unpopular to pretty much hate everything that happened after Vision of the Future. I like Luke and Mara settling down together maybe they have one or more children based on Vision of the Future, I even like Ben. But all the grimdark stuff from the Vong, to killing Anakin Solo, making Jacen Hayden Skywalker and killing him, and killing Mara I despise.

I think that, even though you dislike the New Jedi Order series and the Vong War, you might still like the Young Jedi Knights series. It’s the series that immediately proceeds the NJO, and tells the adventures of young Jacen and Jaina when they were still young teenagers, before the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the Galaxy. There is no foreshadowing of the future Vong War, since the series was written before the NJO, the Force powers are not over the top, and Luke is portrayed as a wise Jedi master. I think that it might be a nice epilogue if you don’t want to accept the NJO.

Shit, you think people are going to take your posts or advice on here seriously after you telling a black member on here that:

“If you focus on the ethnicity of the characters of a movie instead of enjoying the movie itself, I honestly think you are the problem here. Who cares if the characters are white, black, green or transparent? That’s not the point. So yes, it’s a stupid criticism.”

Yeah, the italics in the “you” of the “you are the problem here” really adds the icing on top of your racist cake. And that a black man highlighting inequality in films is “a stupid criticism”.

When Caston then asked you in PMs if you already knew Keyan was black, and all Keyan had done is highlight some scenes that could have easily featured some non-white males, included women, or re-dressed aliens, instead being predominantly white men, in response to George’s recent statement and claims which George himself brought up at Cannes, you then replied:

“The fact that a person is black doesn’t mean he can’t be criticized, just as it doesn’t mean he can’t make the mistake of focussing excessively on the ethnicity of the characters.”

You then tried to deflect away from the focus of your statement accusing Keyan of “being the problem here”, by slating members on here and the site itself, by posting:

“I don’t have a problem with anyone, but I feel you’re all nitpicking just for the sake of finding something to criticize about Lucas. And look, I’m not one of those people who think Lucas never made mistakes, or is a flawed genius, but members of this forum tend to criticize him for everything, even the most insignificant and irrelevant things. If you guys don’t like the Prequels and the Special Editions, that’s fine. But there is no need to bash Lucas for everything he says and does, because it simply makes you unsure of your own opinions. We are in 2024, the Prequels and the Special Editions are past history, just get over the fact that Lucas made something you don’t like and move on.”

Well, good luck with that. I’ll be scrolling right past all your posts from now on. I guess others may be too. Each to their own.

Thank you very much for including me here! I really appreciate it!

I’m starting to think that acolyte would work better as a binging show, rather than week to week. I’m gonna wait until it’s over before I watch the rest, I think.

That said, it could still end up being my favorite sw show (depending on how it ends).

Nah, man. Thank you for the blog. I enjoy reading it, though I often forget about such platforms over time. I remembered seeing a similar list of balanced non-toxic channels on r/Andor, so thought I’d give it a try on here for this. It has certainly helped de-clog my YouTube feed that was once full of FandomMenace, toxic, and rage4hate type videos covering Star Wars that YouTube’s algorithm really likes to promote.

And I’ve learnt of a few new channels. Not all of them great (to me personally), but hopefully something for everyone.

Interesting point about The Acolyte maybe being better suited to binge watching. Given the non-linear approach of the series so far, and that we may get another flashback/Rashomon episode or a good amount of scenes from a different POV, soon.

Either way the show goes, or how it is thought of the at the end of its run, it has engaged me so far. Which a welcome plus, despite a few clunky moments and iffy dialogue.

Details about the making of the Death Star CGI in ANH &amp; ROTJ

Bewy said:

Hey, here’s a video from a guy who makes very interesting videos about how CG was done in movies:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N5SpsD71FI

It’s in French but there are English subs.

I really like what he does, he always interviews people involved in creating the effects he’s talking about! And there’s also a video about the Special Edition trilogy on his channel (in which he might talk about the CG trench effect) :3

Awesome video, even at the 3rd time of watching! I’ve always felt the VFX work for ROTJ, especially on the DSII, never quite gets the love it deserves.

Even stories about the building of the DSII are few and far between, and find it a little disappointing we haven’t seen more of that on screen, even in any of the animated series.

Least screen time for a credited original trilogy character

Is there any credited original trilogy actor with less screen time than Tom Mannion? Or does Mannion hold the original trilogy record?

Does Manion appear in ROTJ, or is he only in the deleted scenes? For some reason I thought his scenes were deleted?

If he does appear in the shown film I guess he is likely the winner of ‘the least amount of screen time with a credit’.

Did my earlier post get deleted or moved? Others’ posts too? Was there something wrong with them? They weren’t “political”.

The fire in space thing didn’t bother me from Episode 1. We’ve seen similar previously in Star Wars and it wasn’t really lore or physics breaking given the universe “rules” for the GFFA. Off the top of my head:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfMoXBOjWBM - from 35 seconds in this video from TPM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj9mzKe6EoE - this short video from ROTJ (mainly the Executor bridge and DSII collision)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyEJE9r5wHU - at 4m 52s into this breakdown video of the ship fire scene in Acolyte Ep 1

With crackling sound of the fire beginning with the voices of children(?) we can hear in Osha’s flashback and the cool shot of the fire reflecting in Osha’s helmet, it didn’t bother me too much. Is this really now a big thing on YouTube? The algorithm must love that kind of thing?

George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator &amp; Time Travelling Revisionist...

Caston posted the following in the New Lucas interview 2: ‘Insists Unaltered Versions Of The OT Will Never Be Released’ thread, talking about George’s comments during the media rounds and interviews at Cannes, but I think it also warrants a place in here.

Caston said:

The following abridged screenshot (edited for length) is from Lucasfilm department director Bill Kimberlin’s excellent 2018 book - Inside The Star Wars Empire, from ‘The Distraction’ chapter, starting on Page 194.

It covers George Lucas refusing the option to have a duplicate negative of the original cuts to be made. Something that “could be easily done”. Instead George simply said “This is the original version” (meaning the 1997 SE cut was now “the original version”):

img

So when George used to tell everyone all the many excuses in the past as to why he couldn’t preserve or restore the original cuts, it was all rubbish. For someone who even today goes on record about the importance of preserving film history, George actively suppressed the preservation and archiving of his own film, as well as the films of other directors in the Original Trilogy.

Lucas is also on record as specifically wanting the original cuts of the OT films to no longer exist:

George Lucas: “There will only be one. And it won’t be what I would call the ‘rough cut’, it’ll be the 'final cut.’

^ a screenshot from “How the Grinch Stole Star Wars” - an article from the Save Star Wars website.

(from Category No. 17 of the George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist… thread)

The entire “Inside The Star Wars Empire” book is a really good enjoyable read and would recommend anyone to go and buy it.

img

^ This section in Caston’s post from Bill Kimberlin’s book is particularly damning:

When I first saw that posted on here I was speechless, but not sadly that surprised.

The truth always comes out in the end. Unfortunately far too late, and the lies & other bullshit will probably still be accepted or remembered by many as “fact”. Next George will be trying to claim the original cuts always looked like laserdisc quality or something else as ludicrous! 😉

Star Wars action figure sells for record $525,000 at auction - article at Guinness World Records

'A rare Boba Fett action figure has been sold for $525,000 (£411,000), becoming the world’s most valuable Star Wars action figure.

The hand-painted, missile-firing model is one of only two still in existence. They were produced in 1979 but never released due to being deemed a choking hazard.

Sold at Heritage Auctions’ Star Wars Signature Auction, it more than doubled the previous record of $236,000 (£185,000) paid for a different rocket-firing Boba Fett in 2022.

It also exceeded the price paid for the world’s most expensive Barbie doll, a one-of-a-kind model wearing a one-carat diamond which was sold in 2010 for $302,500 (then approximately £192,000).’

There is more information in the linked article above.

For that price I hope the rocket on the back-pack still fires!

Several BR/DVD players can't access second layer

It doesn’t sound like disc rot from what 05The4th describes, but it appears there are a lot of YouTube videos on the subject of disc rot over the past couple of years.

This guy talks about it in a 7 minute video on his 2006 GOUT DVDs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehrDoklrl8s

and this guy talks about the subject in much longer videos, mainly for Warner Home Video DVDs and a processing error which may have caused eventual disc rot? I don’t think it is applicable here, but could be something similar? An error in the processing of the discs exposed over time, maybe?

It could be worth backing up any important or valued discs we may have lying around in our collections, just in case?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufALjleweoA - by Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jAnKmjPvGM (an update) - by Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader (I haven’t watched this one myself yet)

I just checked my GOUT DVDs, they all played just fine 2 years ago. Now, only Jedi works in a DVD player, and on PC. Only the Lego game trailer works on one of the discs, and they are both (SW & ESB) unreadable other than that.

I hope 05The4th has some better luck trying to read his discs through the chapters section on a pc/laptop.

If the Star Wars prequels were never made, which actor you would have imagined as the Pre-Prequels Anakin Skywalker?
Time

Spartacus01 said:

Sideburns of BoShek said:

You may have misunderstood the thread, or the history of the pre-PT era? Someone who could play a compelling 20-40 year old across 3 films. Not someone who struggled in the role of a 20-23 year old, and did not convince many fans his character would grow into the Darth Vader we knew in the OT. (That is not all on Hayden: the PT scripts, green screens, and the direction also failed him and other actors, and Hayden’s done good work in other roles since.)

I understand what you are trying to say, but DarthStarkiller1234 didn’t say that we have to be bound to the speculations about the Prequel era that existed before the Prequels, he only asked us to choose an actor to play the role of Anakin.

Really? I took “which actor you would have imagined as the Pre-Prequels Anakin Skywalker?”, in a hypothetical situation where the Prequel films were never made, and that this thread is here in the “Expanded Universe” forum, as being from the pre-PT lore era, But sure, why not. Hayden. Of course! 😃

DarthStarkiller1234 said:

Sideburns of BoShek said:

DarthStarkiller1234, who would you have gone for to play Anakin, and also Kenobi?

Depends when the trilogy is released. Lets say Mid 90s/early 2000s? Then River Phoenix If he had not passed away at that time. Jude Law can also be great. If we are going towards a mid 80s prequels, Val Kilmer. He would look boyish enough in the mid 80s and can age nicely into the more menacing, Vader-esque Anakin.

Oh man, those are three great calls. I could easily envisage any of those actors playing the role really well in a Pre-PT OT release.

<strong>The Acolyte</strong> (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread

The focus of the mystery is not entirely what I expected and that’d a good thing from my POV. The twin theory being revealed almost immediately, so there is no ambiguity about who is doing the killings, but there is a mystery in why she’s doing it. Which I found absorbing.

Massive plus for the hand to hand martial arts fights. The idea that Jedi wouldn’t activate their lightsabers at first is a great touch. This kind of inspired fight choreography works so well.

Credit to Headland who has obviously done her research going into the show and it will probably be much appreciated for the HR book readers, and yet doesn’t come across as fan service or a “need to previously know this for it to work” type of thing either.

Production values looked pretty strong to me. Real sets augmented with CGI is a welcome change to the Stagecraft orientated series of late. Feels like being closer to Andor in production quality than the Stagecraft shows too (Mando season 1 apart).

Early days, but after the 2 episodes this has been an enjoyable watch, not brilliant, but above average, and has drawn me in for more.

A big plus also for the Neimoidians no longer having those dreadful stereotypical Asian accents they infamously had from TPM!

Of if you go onto the Nathan Butler YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/@ChronoRadio, and search for ‘THX 1995’ or something like that, there’s a very good chance he’ll have covered the variants for that release.

^ A 36 minute YouTube video from Adam The Woo. Just good to see everyone having fun and it being plenty busy there.

Good to see the fans enjoying themselves there, and there being so many there as well.

I did find this article at Screenrant, by an employee on the now-closed Galactic Starcruiser, to be brief but enlightening read:

I Worked At The Galactic Starcruiser, & I Can Tell You What Everyone’s Getting Wrong About The “Star Wars Hotel”

If the Star Wars prequels were never made, which actor you would have imagined as the Pre-Prequels Anakin Skywalker?

Gotta love the '90s series for its quirky charm, even if we pretend “The Source” never happened

Ha, yes! It is bizarre how something like that sticks in the mind, but cannot recall some of the better quality series from that era! 😃

Heh. I’ve long thought that Adrian Paul would’ve made a pretty good Exar Kun in a TOTJ film, but never considered him as Anakin, though I can imagine him easily pulling it off. He also had black hair, which is what I imagined Anakin’s hair colour to be prior to TPM’s release.

That is a good call. Dammit, I’ll have to think of a new actor for Anakin now. Those bush eyebrows of Shaw’s he’d have to have black hair! A slightly younger Timothy Dalton could do the role?

I would have still chosen Hayden Christensen.

I remember the rumors Mark Hamill would play older Anakin, and that guy from Henry V would be Obi-Wan. Kenneth Branagh?

Honestly someone who channeled Sir Alec should have been Obi-Wan, and someone like a young Shaw should have been Anakin.

Yeah, years ago Brannagh was a good call for Kenobi. Very Guinness-like vibes. Gabriel Byrne would have been worthy foil for Brannagh as Anakin, as the pre-PT films would likely have their friendship as the main focus as opposed to what we got with the actual PT.

If they were doing the pre-Prequels now I think Cillian Murphy would make for a compelling Anakin.

The more of these new trailers I see, the more I wonder why none of this was in the first trailer…

I think you and Acbagel are right with the marketing for this, it does appear a lot different to that initial teaser (that looked bland, formulaic and something out of the Filoni-verse type series). Maybe it was the same marketing team for all these shows? Or they’ve been told to improve their game after the initial poor reception?

Since that teaser, the trailers have improved considerably. They still feature some issues, but I am at least kind of now looking forward to watching this.

I just have to remember it finally airs this Tuesday!

George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator &amp; Time Travelling Revisionist...

One day I hope this whole thread and all the details and sources can be used to make a good article on mainstream site. At this stage the number of odd claims and contradictions are vast.

Most fans just aren’t very interested in the history of Star Wars, real or fabricated. If they are, they’re probably content with Empire of Dreams or I guess Wookieepedia. I feel like if there was greater interest, his revisionism would be more well-known as well, or at least more people would notice the discrepancies.

At the very least, a decent number of people have seen Vice’s documentary, which does at least cover the real history, if not call out the revisionist claims. Though it’s still a comparatively small percentage of the fanbase, unfortunately.

It would be fascinating to see it all laid out in an article, or even a YouTube video or podcast? Although I reckon it would get “brigaded” pretty quickly by the George/Prequel fanboys. The slightest whiff of criticism against George often triggers the zealots into action, and any established platform writer or YouTube creator probably knows that, so is likely put off by the prospect of that happening. But it would be great to be proven wrong on this, and actually see it done.

Or maybe even something like an updated “The People vs George Lucas”, or a straight-up doc on the preservation side of the OT? That kind of thing?

So when George used to tell everyone all the many excuses in the past as to why he couldn’t preserve or restore the original cuts, it was all rubbish. For someone who even today goes on record about the importance of preserving film history, George actively suppressed the preservation and archiving of his own film, as well as the films of other directors in the Original Trilogy.

Lucas is also on record as specifically wanting the original cuts of the OT films to no longer exist:

George Lucas: “There will only be one. And it won’t be what I would call the ‘rough cut’, it’ll be the 'final cut.’

(from Category No. 17 of the George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist… thread)

The entire “Inside The Star Wars Empire” book is a really good enjoyable read and would recommend anyone to go and buy it.
