If the Inquisitors existed during the OT, then where were they this whole time?  Why weren't they working with the Empire?

Same place as Thrawn, Mara Jade, and Jerec. If equating not appearing to not existing isn't world shrinkage, I don't know what is.

Well, so far, those characters aren't canon according to Disney and they probably won't be.  Inquisitor existing in Rebels and Episode VII would make their existence canon.

4K restoration on Star Wars

I thought the 2004 version actually wasn't a rushed project but just lazily done?

It may have been a lazy job as well. The person I know said he tried to make it work but there were a lot of difficulties and George had no clue what he was doing and ruined all the colors. I'm paraphrasing ;) he's much too professional to say something that harsh. It's also possible that he was one of the only ones putting any effort into the project. I do think that there had to have been a lot of laziness to allow such blatant errors in a DVD release. Especially one as big as Star Wars. The green lightsaber stands out a lot but there are many other ones too.

I should also add that I haven't seen the DVD's in what, 10 years now? I don't have a good memory about some of the coloring issues, and looking at Hayden Christiansen's ghost makes me physically ill, so it's been a long time since I've even watched any of the butchered versions. I think it was that change that completely turned me off of the Special Editions forever.

Do you know exactly when your friend starting working on the project and when Lowry started the restoration?  Interestingly, all the blatant errors were defended as creative choices, some of which were magically fixed for the 2011 Blu-ray.  There was at least some laziness since those errors originally past quality control or maybe they just didn't care.

The Lapti Nek Appreciation Thread
Time

The Anthology was supposed to include a 5th disc, but didn't go into the production.  The set was to include the film and English versions of Lapti Nek as well as the Max Rebo songs.  So, is this music really lost?  Also, a short clip of one of the Max Rebo songs can be heard on the Star Wars Soundboard at starwars.com, if that's any indication.

Here's some information about the 5th disc, which was taken verbatim from the FSM forum:

Lukas Kendall wrote in the Jan/Feb/Mar issue of Film Score Monthly
(among a wealth of other SW music background):

"And finally, the 'fifth disc,' an object I made the mistake of
mentioning a few months ago. At this point, while a sequencing for
a fifth disc was made (featuring another 70 minutes of music), there
are no immediate plans to release it. It's not dead, just kind of
in limbo. Because I wasn't supposed to announce it, it would not
be a good idea to write Fox demanding the "fifth disc." To them
nobody knows about it, and therefore nobody would care if they ever
did it. Rather, write that you would be interested in 'any
additional Star Wars outtakes and unreleased music' like the fourth
disc in the set. Address is: Fox Records, c/o Fox Music Group, PO
Box 900, Beverly Hills, CA 90213. Be nice, be brief and try not to
sound like you're crazy; perhaps disc five may yet happen."

So there you have it. If you're interested, here's the missing
music that could be on a fifth disc according to Film Score Monthly:

From Star Wars:
- Main Title (first recorded take) 2:16
- More Little People (after droids purchased) :22
- The Force/The Princess Reappears/Ben and Luke 2:00
- Out of the Floor (group infiltrates Death Star) 1:45

- The Imperial Probe (film version pt. 1) 1:00
- Ben's Instruction (complete) 3:30
- The Probe Scanner 3:00
- Yoda Appears ("You feel like what?") 1:15
- Vader's Command (Imperial Fleet breaks up) 1:10
- Luke to the Rescue (taking off from Dagobah) :55
- Vader Shows Up (group meets Vader at dinner) 1:30
- Putting Threepio Together 1:00
- Trouble in Prison (Lando visits prison cell) 2:20
- Carbon Freeze (alternate) :40
- Finale (alternate) 2:00

From Return of the Jedi:
- Vader Contacts Luke (not in film)/The Iron Door 2:20
- Jabba Harp Source 3:00
- Unused Source Music (not in film) 1:30
- My Favorite Decoration 1:00
- Lapti Nek (film version)

- Battle Plans (the real "Rebel Briefing) 2:00
- Jungle Encounter (before Speeder Bikes) 1:20

- Bedtime Stories (Threepio tells saga to Ewoks) 1:10
- Ewok Drums 2 (group joins tribe) 2:05
- Father Meets Son (Endor landing platform) 3:30
- Finding an Entrance (group at bunker) :50

**RUMOR** Original theatrical cut of the OT to be released on blu ray!!

I don't think there is more demand for the OUT than the SE. I just think the people who want the original are more vocal than the people who are either content with the SE or don't know the difference.

But there's definitely more people who prefer the OOT than there are people who prefer the SE, so if Disney's going to emphasize one, it's going to be the OOT.

Not that I don't believe you, but how do you know there's more people who prefer the OOT than the SE?  That's certainly the case on this site, but what about the casual fan?

Here's what I said earlier in the 4K thread:

I wouldn't bet on a new version of the SE. There are so many reasons why not. Let's first of all remember that none of the directors of the OT are in the picture any more, and usually when there's a new cut of a movie for home video they're involved. So who would be making the changes? What would be their goal? Would they get rid of some earlier changes? Let's not forget now that the people in charge now probably don't care at all for the SE. And Disney/LFL is on this OT train, and they must know that real lovers of the OT prefer the OOT and hate the SE with a passion. So they'd probably think (incorrectly) that OTers would not care for and possibly complain about a new SE.

If there is a new version, it was probably already in the works before Lucas sold it all to Disney.  However, Disney has altered some of its films without the consent the filmmakers who are still alive.  Take "The Little Mermaid" as a recent example.  The changes were minor, but still changes nonetheless.  I wouldn't be surprised if Disney tweaked the Star Wars films (including the PT) here and there.

I think it's fine for fan edits, such as Adywan's edits, but officially modernize them decade after decade?  In the 1997, the films were "updated" to modern standards to some extent, but now some of the CGI and added effects are dated.  Why do films of 1970s and 1980s need to be updated to modern standards?  Can't they simply exist as products of their time?

IMO, Jurassic had the perfect mix of CGI dinosaurs and animatronic/practical effects and still holds up even to this day.  It also helped that Spielberg, for the most part, used animatronics when the actors were directly interacting the dinosaurs and keep CGI dinosaurs at a reasonable distance from the camera.  The issue with the dinosaurs in the SE is that some of them were far too close the camera, making the CGI very apparent.  I thought the CGI in the distance (such as dewbacks), looked fine.  Although, wasn't the revealing shot of Mos Eisely actually a miniature?  I thought that was CGI for the longest time.

Were the SE's rushed a bit to make the release date? Restoration aside, there were enough new shots across the OT to be equivalent to doing a entire new movie.

There must have been some pre-production work ongoing for TPM at the same time.

I believe the Jabba sequence took them about a year to do.  I wouldn't think that be considered rushed considering how short the scene is, but maybe in 94 or 95 it was.  I'm not sure about the other updated effects shots.  They had to restore and "improve" three feature films for release in early 1997, so I wouldn't be surprised if some aspects were rushed, which they seemingly were since some of the original updated effects were redone for the 2004 DVDs.  Or that could be a simple case of tinkering. :-)
