STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

It seems as though she may know, but is keeping it to herself. Hard to tell.

It's better that they keep it ambiguous, or have her not know, though. Obviously can't have knowledge of Vader's identity being discussed at the rebel water cooler. Hopefully they'll have a good confrontation before killing off her character at some point in the series.

That's another ignorance here.

You can't also really say the color-grading is not final. Because movies are not a production that works in incremental steps, as the color-grading will be upgraded to the final look and become better. The initial look is right there. The only thing changing will be minimal cleanup in various elements. Not the general look.

The same argument is made about cgi effects. They do not upgrade them as if it's some kind of a software. The final composition of a movie or scene should be there right from the beginning.

That's a bunch of arrant nonsense ^. Wrong in every respect.

Watch this video comparing what you would describe as the "Final" colours and "Final" FX in the Hobbit trailer, to the "Actual final" colours and FX...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi94JM3zkxk

Also, as anybody who has ever watched a Deleted Scene before will tell you, the colour grading can be vastly different.

CGI changes dramatically throughout production. The sea dinosaur thing in Jurassic World received updates with each trailer. Color grading can also occur as a near final step. I lost track of the ignorances.

Here are shots from the cleaned Reel 1, with Luke in the medical area:

==========================================

Video Clip:

==================================

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k3gkCnmEQPpsc9bFYf4

NOTES:

============================

- No further color correction done

- Still partially cropped

- Mostly dark dirt cleanup, still some light spots

- Glue frames were not cleaned

It's about 90% complete.

Depending on what people think, we will only be doing previews for Reels 1 and 4, and possibly 3.

We really don't have time to put up the rest currently.

All of these will be bundled with the Star Wars Reel 1 preview.

Team Negative1

Really nice. What do you mean no 'further' color correction? I ask because the color looks great.

I don't always notice glue frames, but they're especially obvious in this scene after each shot. Will be nice once they're cleaned up. Still need to do gate weave removal I assume? Obviously it's just a preview and it's through dailymotion. The image is obviously clear and in focus, but the compression makes it hard to tell what the grain will look like. It's there, but shows up patchy and flickery this way.

Anyway, if the rest of the cleanup preview is of this caliber, I'm excited to see it.

I know I'm in the minority here but I find most calls for color correction to be highly unnecessary. In general, this need to make things look "realistic" is something I simply don't care about. I'm watching a film, not walking around outside.

Films from different eras have different looks. Though I agree with many that orange and teal is overdone these days and that it would be nice to move on.

I think the main time that color correction by fans is important, is when films have been modified from how they looked originally. Matrix, LOTR, the film about the lazer swords with a name that escapes me, etc.

Obviously, TFA is an interesting case, because JJ seems to have an interest in returning to the OT style in a few ways. Some seem to be taking this to mean that they are going to be able to mistake it for a film made in the 1970s. These people are going to be very, very disappointed. But some fans seem to thrive on being disappointed.

Let me throw an analogy in here. If a ugly girl uses makeup just like a beautiful girl, they will both look similar but the former girl will look beautiful in an artificial way.

Casual misogyny: the strongest tool in any argument.

That's what stood out to me as well. It also took away from the point trying to be made.

And I think there is a point to be made. Or, there likely will be once the film is released. Some of these are good calls. That one of Finn's orange armour is indeed highly suspicious. But the camera phone shots obviously shouldn't be judged yet. Lets wait a bit on those until we see the upcoming trailer. And calling out a campfire lit scene for being orange?

But misogyny and calling people ignorant for not being 100% on board with some of these early criticisms? Really classy. This is not surprising, though, having seen the user's previous obsessive rants. Err, 'critical thinking', which one is only doing when they agree with buddhaguy. Otherwise it's ignorance.

One of this forum's member has a copy of it. That's how I could get a look at it in the past.

Oh, I know it's not unique or rare. Lot's of people have it. Or, had it at least, since it was a pretty big deal when it was first released. Most people surely deleted it once better copies were released. Was just hoping to have it on the spleen, since there is currently no theatrical representation of III there.

Wow. It's one thing to not actively hunt down fan videos, but I'm really impressed that they're serious enough about their approach to this stuff (and therefore relationship with their fans) to correct things like that.

It's probably just some lackey following a scripted workflow and just pressing a button.

Well, it's the policy I'm impressed by. :)

OK, is it just me who can see it or did the video get unblocked?

It got unblocked. I know it's FOX that owns the distribution rights to Star Wars, by a majority of the franchise is owned by Disney now, and Disney is easy going about people using their clips in mashup vids for comedy, commentary and other uses. They just take official action when they see one of their movies being uploaded in full.

I know Disney is better than Fox at these things, but how does this process work? Some auto detection first blocked it, and then Disney was alerted to it and unblocked manually? Or did someone submit a petition?

The first option you mentioned : Auto detection blocks it, Disney is alerted to it by the uploader and they manually unblock it.

Exactly. This is just a quick private preview. We are moving on the improved versions, and there's no point in putting in 3 revisions that we are working on.

All you need is a quick preview, and then we'll move onto doing the polishing. We would rather work on actually improving it, than spend time posting links and previews. We've been doing that for 3 years now.

The cleanup was the biggest effort, and that's what we were emphasizing.

Team Negative1

The cleanup and the stabilization, for the most part, was impressive indeed! It is unfortunate that some scenes need to be re-scanned (or already have been) and presumably enter the cleanup process again.

Have you forgotten about the Team Negative 1 project? They have given clips to Harmy, you know.

Of course, but Harmy recently said that the GOUT will still be used even if the team gets him everything on his 35mm wish list. Maybe there are just little things, throughout, like cropping that he can't bug negative-1 for so much footage?

Here's a hint: if the last person who replied to the thread is you, and you're thinking of adding another post, it's too goddamned soon.

edit: and there I've broken my rule of not being rude to you. I know this is getting personal, but I just feel like I need an answer now, so I'm sorry. But are you about 10 years old or autistic? It's a serious question and I don't mean either in a mean way, I just need to figure out how I'm going to process and comprehend your behavior. I can't be the only one wondering, but maybe others are too polite to ask.
