TPM 1080p Theatrical Preservation (a WIP)

I didn't suggest that, in fact I might download it myself soon. It could be a valuable resource if it contains a different transfer of the film!

BUT... I think it's the same as the one schorman13 used as the basis for his HDTV preservation.

I've only seen the first few seconds of the 34gig one. But at least the Fox logo is indeed a different transfer. :P

I've stopped the 16gb because it does look identical several minutes in.

I'm having the torrent client download in sequential order, so the file will play. What's the earliest indication of theatrical? Wasn't the opening crawl color changed?

edit: nevermind, that was for the blu-ray. The 16gb torrent looks identical to my HDTV (DVD transfer) as far as I can tell. Was excited at first, but it turns out there's a lot of gate weave on it normally.

The 34gb download certainly has a different 20th century fox transfer. Looks cleaner and I would say it's the blu-ray if it weren't a 2009 cap.

In other TFA leak news today (and linked to more people who will probably never work on a film again)

Someone tried to sell the Jakku set design plans on ebay today. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/charliebigpotaters/m.html?item=321846936747&hash=item4aef9284ab&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

Auction is down, but they posted a bunch of images.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone [Revisited] (Released)

Would love a PM for a link to the first one. I've asked the editor on fanedit.org but he so far has only kindly responded with links to the second film. Not sure if there's a communication breakdown or if the first is currently offline or what. The second one is great, though. Also, the torrent that had both of them is of course unseeded because it was a fanedit on a public tracker. :(

(Feel free to PM me for a link to the second film).

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Someone present for the desert filming leaked a terrible quality video:

http://makingstarwars.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Leaked-footage-of-Star-Wars-Episode-VII-The-Force-Awakens-filming-in-UAE..mp4

I imagine they'll be able to identify him, on account of there being other cameras rolling and his location on the set being obvious. his face being in the video.

Nothing terribly interesting that I noticed, but I'm sure people will look at every frame of it and find something. Probably recorded by the same person that snapped a bunch of photos of extras on that set that leaked last year.

edit: I guess you hear Finn and Rey speaking for the first time. Sort of. Here is my transcription of their dialogue:

"We gotta move!"

"Wjhoald ahlfada"

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

If you're getting a new player, you really should get bluray - the prices are now pretty much the same as DVD and even DVDs will likely look much better played through a BD player.

And get one of these newfangled ones that the kids say play MKVs on a usb drive.

As for DVD on a blu-ray player, make sure to look up reviews online pertaining to their performance. Some do very well, I believe others are crap with interlaced sources, etc.

I'm about two thirds of the way through the Fifth Doctor. John Nathan-Turner's run of the show continues to get worse as the series goes on. Sad to see such a great show on the decline. =(

Yes I remember that was a very sad time. I was so into the show during that time period too. That was when I was rubbing elbows with JNT during his American visits to promote the show on The New Jersey Network.

Had some good moments once he finally stopped caring and let Cartmel do as he pleased. Remembrance, Ghost Light, and Fenric really start to turn things around. And then, of course, it's cancelled.

Not sure about the first two. Might be that your player doesn't do DL DVDR. Strange that it tries to and can read the file structure, though. edit: doh, you said DVD-RW, not DL. Yep, seems your drive wants to play media files from DVD-RW? Does it play MP3s and such? You can try navigating to the VOB files in VIDEO_TS, just for the hell of it. Otherwise, try to get the disc copied straight to standard DVD-R.

The video quality of the DVD5 of Harmy's RoTJ that is floating around is indeed very poor. I believe it was not encoded directly by him as were the other two films. It has a plain menu that pops up and then very pixelated video. His actual AVCHD release is pretty decent quality, but lower than all the >1.0 releases of the other films. I'm not sure that it can withstand re-encoding to MPEG-2, so you might want to just wait until the next version comes out or find a way to play the AVCHD file.

2. I am thinking a compromise, I will try to lower the quality of what I got just a little bit, and raise the quality of the deleted scenes a little bit and try to make them work together nicely. If it works and it is passable, I will do it that way, if not, I will think of something.

Perhaps you can just reduce the quality of the shots immediately preceding and following the deleted scene to make the shift a bit more gradual. Shouldn't need to have the quality suffer throughout the entire film.

Speculation as to when opening night (not the special super-preview at select cities) tix for TFA will be sold be fandango?

What I'm curious to know is when people will prefer to see it? I was considering the usual 7pm "sneak preview" on the 17th, but I want to see it with a crowd as well. Which does better - the day before or opening night?

I think any of the very early showings of this film will have a crowd and line up and people in costumes and all. But you've gotten my hopes up for the idea of not only seeing it at 7pm on a Thursday, but seeing it without all the madness of fans. :P
