Looks great.
How do the shots of 3PO and R2 first arriving on Tatooine look?

Could you post some shots of the binary sunset?, it would be interesting to see how that turns out.
Me too.
Also, what happens to the green lightsaber on the millenium falcon? Obviously, it's a different rotoscoped element in there and it's not a shot a preservation would use as-is. Just curious, but I'd also like to see how the rest of the frame looks corrected.

I think this method will be the way to go when doing color corrections of the Blu-ray, as it automates what would be (and was) hours and hours of work trying to rescue these shots using manual color correction. There will still be problems with the Blu-ray that need to be corrected by hand of course, such as R2's dome in the above shot, which is oddly green with purple panels. That's just the nature of the blu-ray, that some shots are missing color channels and gradients and nothing can be done to fix that without pulling in color information from another source.
I agree. I mean, it will still be hours of work. And many, many, many hours of rendering time. But, assuming the references are correct (and Mike Verta will someday post his own collection of every shot which the majority of us here will have some faith in), it takes all the horrible second-guessing (and third, fourth, nth) you have to do when adjusting color manually.
You mean the second set is using the specific IB frame to match, while the first did several matches based on a single frame comparison, right?
The second set looks more natural. The darker regions don't have the weird green blobs going on. The sky is quite white, and it looks a bit strange against the very light desert landscape. But would you say that's how the reference prints looked? Do you think the luminescence is correct? Is the bluer sky in the frame 1 of the first set due to the reference frame used (i.e., leftover blue from the BR)?
Here is a set of comparisons from the two sets:
Great stuff, phildesfr. I haven't yet printed disc labels for anything (have not convinced myself to spend money on a printer that can print to disc, and I learned my lesson about disc stickers in the CD-R days). But, if I do, I think I'd want to use yours.

And keep your listeners who could not give any shits about Star Wars, I imagine.
Cool. How is the color?
The V10 script didn't make a huge difference in Jedi from the test I did. Someone could try the V12 now, though. But I assume it needs its own custom script.

how Jedi would look, since it is the worst looking of the NTSC set.
IIRC it's the only one where the NTSC looks worse than the PAL, but isn't it still in better shape than the other two films?
No one knows. I would probably grab 1.0 if I were you. It looks great. Only a few minor noticeable issues. Pro tip: if you don't go back and read every page of this thread, there will probably only be one or two things you notice. For Empire, I'm quite sure there will be zero. Ignorance is bliss, you can read about the errors once the next version is out or soon to come. :)
Indeed, these look much 'healther' than the GOUT equivalents. Again, I'll use the disclaimer that I have no idea how the 77 film is supposed to look. But these seem to fall somewhere between the GOUT correction and the Blu-ray as-is.

The reason detail is lost, is because the GOUT lacks the color depth to show the detail, but on the print it is definitely there.
It raises an interesting point. Should compromises be made when the GOUT simply cannot handle the correction? The problem is really only striking in some of the Tantive corridor shots. I think the overall color palette looks good. And the detail in the mids actually looks nice (Leia's hair, the imperial's face). The blu-ray with such a correction presumably has more detail in the dark uniforms? Or are the blacks too crushed in the 2011?
Looking good. Even with the problems of their Reel1 sample.
It's funny that other sites reported it being Rian and VIII a day or two ago. EW comes along and blunders it up, getting the message late with someone probably misreading their roman numerals. Everyone assumes it's new information rather than misreported old information.

Maybe it's a stipulation when airing it—you can only show the newest version, kind of like Star Wars.
In this case, is there even an HD version of the original available that they could run if they were allowed to?

Just to piggyback on the Playstation talk, what's the best way to watch Harmy's projects with a PS3? It's my bluray player and I think it only supports FAT hard drive.. Or perhaps I'm wrong.
Not sure. Mine is modded, so I can run a program called showtime that reads MKV and NTFS drives. Perhaps networked streaming after muxing into mp4 or .ts?
PS4 has been updated to work with USB drives and MKVs. Note: they haven't added the ability to select audio tracks yet, so you probably shouldn't include more than one. Also, as it's a Sony system and not Microsoft, they don't support NTFS. So make sure to use FATx for large files.
As for burning the ABCHDs to blu-ray: I think you can do that? I'm pretty sure that's what some people have been doing with Harmy's RoTJ 1.0 while they wait for the next version.
Possibly just indication that he has aged better. Though you wouldn't guess it based on the internet's overreaction to the direction that the fur around his eyes is combed or whatever the "problem" was.
"I don't think I've talked to any one of the... crew members from the first film who haven't been to originaltrilogy at some point." :)
Ah, right. Forgot about that. :)

George chucked it because he decided baby Luke should be handed to Beru, with Owen keeping his distance. He originally shot Kenobi handing to Owen.
He used the plate shots of the homestead taken during to EP2, and put in the actors via bluescreen.
Is the original shot available anywhere? Does Obi-wan have his AoTC haircut?
All of these changes sound great. Very nice that you'll be able to utilize the work of schorman and Dre. I think the overall look of the films will benefit greatly.
Glad to hear that the jump cut walking to Anakin's house is fixed. I no longer feel bad complaining about it. :)
I agree that the Death Star shot is frustrating. But I agree that keeping it is probably the way to go. Shame about losing such a seamless edit, though.
What are the quips in the Fox logo?
I used to have good luck using Replay Media Capture to grab flash video from sites that were tricky or too obscure to have functionality built into many of the web based downloaders.
Your top. The 80's are over, poita!
