Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

Yeah, whatever other problems there are with ROTJ, Special Effects aren't one of them - I think ROTJ is the absolute pinacle of optical visual effects and may be the most realistic looking space battle of all time, including CG ones.

Completely agree. Most of the model shots are damn convincing. Lots of depth and great lighting. There are modern blockbusters and TV shows with CG effects that aren't half as convincing as RoTJ.

There's always room for criticism. But if we're holding the OT to that standard, the composited ships in the battle of Hoth looks like the cardboard cutout pilot episode of South Park by comparison.

I have to say, I'm extremely pleased to see it confirmed that the trailer music was not arranged by Williams. I thought it worked well enough for a trailer, and I adore the fact that they dusted off the love theme, but it would have been a serious bummer if those arrangements were indicative of the sound of the actual score. I'm not a fan of that kind of drum-heavy style at all.

While not as good as Williams's work, I liked the music. Gives me some hope for the non-Williams films like Rogue One, etc.

Wait a second, are the official teasers considered spoilers? If so, I'm sorry I put that video. Should I remove it?

It sounds like labeling a link appropriately should be fine. Embedding images that give people no choice is not.

What part of that is stupid?

Person was excited. Person must be stupid.

Movies are supposed to have intelligent people not stupid people.

edit: Realizing now that this is the non spoiler thread, the second link to the stupid, stupid person is a link to the new trailer with the time stamp that John posted.  Though, feel free to click the first one if you want to raise your IQ a few points and not be spoiled.

As in we have had at least 5 of the 5TB drives fail.

Oh and for all the rest of the world that is just entering into the day where our collective future suddenly becomes the past, think for a few minutes that for any kid going into a cinema today to watch a special showing of the Back to the Future Trilogy, the world of 1985 is as far in the ancient past as 1955 was when BttF first came out.

That makes me feel old.

(So does the horrible fact that The Little Mermaid release date was closer to the Moon Landing than to today...)

5 of the ~11 or so? Awful things.

There is no way they'd put something in the trailer that would allow you to figure that out conclusively. They have to know that people are going to pick apart every frame of this. In fact, I think it's not unlikely that they put that in there to get us all to double down on "that's definitely where Han dies" and throw us off of something else. I'm not saying I think he lives, but I really can't believe thats what this shot is.

I've seen people comment that they're absolutely sure it's just about every character, now. Finn, Chewbacca, Leia, Han, even Luke and Kylo. I totally agree that the shot would have never made it through the layers of review before release if it was so such a simple spoiler. It'd never have made it past JJ alone.

It was actually a great move on their part, given how much discussion and probably misleading it has created.

At the risk of being totally unoriginal, thanks so much for extraordinary hard work you've put into these projects! I reckon the key word is choice. It's what LucasFilm hasn't provided and is what you guys and Harmy and everyone else are providing!  The Grindhouse ESB is great! Don't remove too much noise for the next releases ;)

If you can preserve the kind of colour that's in this clip in the final export then you're doing a better job than most BluRays ever do

Looking forward to SW whenever it comes out

Hello form London!

Have you seen their more recent samples? Though it's not the same scenes, I would say the color is even better, and the deflicker is improved (unless that scene or reel you linked to was more problematic to start?).

My wife has never seen any of the films and I've heard her reference Princess Leia and Darth Vader on several occasions.

My boss's 5 (6?) year old hasn't seen any of the films, but knows who stormtroopers and Vader are, and is extremely excited to go as one of the two for halloween.

I'm warning you guys, don't get your expectations up. The trailer is a window into the filmmaker's mind and what kind of story they are hoping to tell. All indications are that the story in this film will be poorly fleshed out. The characters will be kind of just there. The movie will be a sleekly produced but vapid Revenge of the Sith meets The Godfather Part 3 meets standard Hollywood blockbuster fare.

I seriously doubt that Abrams had a big say in the making of this trailer. Since when was movie trailer a "window into the filmmaker's mind"? It's almost exclusively been a reflection of current marketing trends.

Look at Terminator Genysis (If you dare..) The director certainly didn't intend to spoil the film by putting the reveal into the trailer, and he's on record saying he was 'disappointed' that Marketing did that.

Just finally saw this one. I think they actually did the viewers a favor, allowing them to get pissed off at that stupid plot point in advance, rather than during the (truly terrible) movie.

People were bickering about the then-forthcoming Revenge of the Jedi online on Usenet in 1982.

Would that still be archived anywhere?

Google Groups has the most complete archive, but the search is broken.

DejaDejaDeja.com has a much better search, but it's only 1981-1991.

Thank you, I've found a new way to waste my time. :P

Didn't Yoda tell Luke to pass on what he learned in Return of the Jedi?

Han talks of the Jedi as if they're regarded as myth in the trailer.

Is this movie really making our heroes as lazy as I fear? 30 years on they're still fight imperial types and Luke has seemingly trained nobody else in the ways of the Force.

There's most likely going to be a very good explanation as to why Luke has gone into hiding. And if he wen't into hiding shortly after ROTJ then he would really have had the time to train anyone, and Leia didn't exactly know enough to train any herself.

It seems like you're suggesting that the opening crawl isn't going to just say 'Luke was lazy, you guys'.

I must admit I don't like the trailer as much as the teasers.

I don't like it less than the teasers. But it didn't step up my excitement the way the second teaser did. Actually, I think the best one by far was the comic-con behind the scenes clip. I just rewatched it and it still gives me goosebumps, whereas the new trailer didn't.
