Clone Wars Movie Series [Episodes I to V released; Episode IX: The Fallen Apprentice now Complete!]

Haha, I’d rather you continue on with CW since it gets so good towards the end however…

You must do what you think is right of course 😛

Sure, but it’s even better that he’s done the part of the series that really lags. Later seasons can hold their own a bit more than the first couple. 😃

Anyway, breaks are necessary and in this case certainly deserved! There are more important things in life, and it prevents project fatigue as well.

That said, a shortened first season of Rebels does sound nice. It didn’t really get good until the final ~1/3rd or so.

Harrison’s lines were chopped up in a way that didn’t quite have impact or make sense.

I think it’s because the trailer was edited with the Japanese subtitles in mind, rather than the dialog from the audio. To a Japanese audience, Han’s line is “The Force is real. It’s all real.” instead of “The Force. It’s true. All of it.”

Ah, thanks for clearing that up!

Anyway, the point is that there are three sets of dialogue that we have seen in two different arrangements, so best not to assume anything in a trailer represents an actual cut. 😃

I guess we can ignore everything that came from anyone who said that Rey gives Finn his name. I remember more than a couple of people claiming to have insider info included that in their story.

Maybe not though. The editing on trailers can be deceptive, and I suspect this will be the case in this film a LOT. For instance:

Rey: I don’t know your name.
Finn: I don’t have a name. I’ve always answered to FN-2187
Rey: That’s not much of a name. Why don’t I call you Finn?
Finn: (Slightly miffed) Finn…
Rey: Nice to meet you Finn. I’m Rey.

Bit convoluted, and I have no beliefs about it one way or the other, but just proves things might not be what they seem. 😉

Good point. The dialogue in the Japanese trailer seems especially hacked up. Ford’s line doesn’t make a ton of sense this way (‘the force, it’s true, all of it’), and the Maz/Rey exchange feels awkwardly cut and timed as well.

I totally understand and, like I said, it doesn’t break the film in any way.

As far as choosing between other edits goes, Episode III is a tricky thing. There are so many little bits and bobs of continuity and fan service, that the only way anyone can probably get the pieces in place exactly how they like is to make their own edits.

As far as continuity goes, I’ll take Padme living over C3PO keeping his memories forgetting to mention that he’s back on his home planet where everyone is probably named Skywalker so don’t worry about it. 😃 (I think the actual reason was to remove the Tantive. But that’s a bit of fan service I don’t really mind).

Sorry, it’s too abrupt for me. The last phase of the film is important to get to feel as unlike a fan edit as possible, given how much has been done to it.

Okay, on that note… I’ve been avoiding discussing it, since I think the answer will simply be “No”. But do you think there’s any chance you would consider not using the Padme Lives ending? I really appreciate it for how well it is done, creatively and technically. But,

It does stand out as a fan change. Though it is pulled off very well, I don’t think it looks like it’s from the same film.

It is really the only part in your entire trilogy that goes strongly against the original cut. I think it’s the kind of change you would expect to find in some of the more heavy handed edits. What’s great about your trilogy is that it shows how such small and thoughtful alterations in the editing stage could have made a substantial impact on the films. Whether one is pro/against the Padme scene, I think it’s not consistent in that sense.

Personally, I don’t think Leia’s Rotj line or two is worth all the fuss. Lucas had already been retconning or changing his story for two films at that point, and the whole conversation between Leia and Luke is a bit silly. We could imagine that Leia is not in fact remembering her real mother (how would she know?), or as a force sensitive infant was able to magically retain images/feelings of her mother (cringe).

I think the exposition with Obiwan looking after Luke is worth saving. You have proven beyond a doubt that it can’t be done with the current ending.

In the ‘new canon’ novels/comics there is discussion of Bail. Certainly not suggesting that your edit should be compatible with them, but it is slightly possible that your ending will be contradicted by something in Rogue One, etc.

Obviously, it’s not a deal-breaker for me. It’s great as-is, and I appreciate how clever the current strategy is. Just thought I would ask you to pause one last time and consider, since I believe it is literally my only remaining criticism for your trilogy.

I really enjoyed this trailer. It felt a bit simpler and less JJ-ified. Of course, it didn’t quite hit the way ‘our’ trailer did in some ways. Harrison’s lines were chopped up in a way that didn’t quite have impact or make sense.

Not much as far as spoilers go. But we do have Rey’s line about waiting for her family. We can still only speculate. But she may very well know of her lineage.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

Just so you guys know as well, there’s a new Japanese trailer that has been posted. I would probably consider it somewhat spoilerier than the previous trailer (there’s a bit more dialogue used in it, and lots of new shots/scenes). So, perhaps it’s not for those who felt even the previous trailer gave too much away. It looked great, though!

One of the better ones?!?!?! I think it is one of the worst. Sonic sunglasses?!?!?! SONIC SUNGLASSES!?!?!? SONIC SUNGLASSES!!?!?!!

The sunglasses suck. But yeah, easily one of the better ones. The second half of the Lake Ghost story was a let down, but the series has otherwise been great. There are better stories in the first few series, but each one also had several that were just tremendously bad. Series 9 is closer to 5 in quality. So far, only one real stinker (but I prefer Capaldi to Smith by quite a long shot).

The Chimes of Midnight (8th Doctor, February 2002)

Easily the best Eighth Doctor tale yet! Had a wonderful sense of dread and mystery. Though you’d have to at least be familiar with his first audio story to fully appreciate this one.

Best Eighth Doctor tale, period IMO.

You might be pleased to see that they’re going to be releasing a set of BF 8th Doctor Time War stories (they are also releasing a couple sets of John Hurt Doctor Time War stories).

Now that their restriction against the new series is over, Big Finish is doing a 10th Doctor and Donna series as well.

warbler: shrug. It seems to be a last hurrah of his, where he stops giving a damn about his effect on time. His looser following of the rules is a small theme this season. The first two parter certainly had some flaws. But it was a great use of Davros, and Michele Gomez was again fantastic. The season in general has been one of the better ones, in my opinion. I’m ready to say goodbye to the damned guitar and glasses, though.

Carrie’s is great. Obviously, they’re presenting her in the best ‘light’ possible (i.e., editing work), but they’ve done so without smoothing over her skin into plastic, etc. And the tactical center foreground/background of hers is great.

Does Harrison really have that crooked of a nose? It looks like they’ve composited a slightly angled shot with a straight-on one in a way that doesn’t really make sense. Nice to see his old blaster.

The other posters look fine, too. Nothing really new from what we’ve been seeing of those three, though. The saber blade in Finn’s eye is a nice touch. There may be something of interest in Rey’s eye reflection too, but can’t make it out.

Yeah. In the end, the conservative route is probably the way to go.

Has there been thought given about using the 2011 RoTJ “Nooo”? Although it’s something we generally try not to think about, the line itself is delivered much better (again, in a relative way) than the RoTS “Noooooooo”. I imagine the difference in duration is problematic, though, as well as separating it from other audio.
