Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

I just watched the prologue and thought it was great! If I continue it, I'd like to pull in Episode II into IV and the first half of III into V and the second half of III into VI.

Episode IV mentions the Clone Wars and Anakin, Episode II shows the Clone Wars and the Introduction of Anakin to the lars. Also the death of Shmi could tie into the death of the Lars.

Episode V talks about premonitions that Luke has about Han and Leia which could be tied into the premonitions Anakin has about Padme. Also when we find out Darth Vader is Luke's Father we see Anakin rise as Darth Vader.

Episode VI as the mask goes on the mask comes off in Episode III.

However, if I could get a list of the scenes that were predetermined and that have already been finished sent to me, that would be great!

Good thinking??

Did you read the synopsis ID wrote a few pages back?  You just described exactly what we were going to do.

The stuff that we finished I've uploaded.  That's really all there is.

Oh, and I thought the Vader construction / rise of the Empire thing was dropped from the prologue in the later versions so that it ended just on Palpatine's face at the funeral....I think we liked that better...the clip TJ released must've been from an earlier version.  I forget now...it's been a while since we worked on that portion.

I don't believe I ever received that memo.

Here's the prologue.  This is the last clip I have to upload.  Once again there are some audio glitches, video glitches, out of sync audio, slow motion problems, and audio level issues.  I never could figure out why Vegas encoded the slow motion sections with out of order video frames.  I also don't have the fonts we used so Vegas just stuck some in there.

With that said we put a helluva lot of work into this.  I worked on the neomodian (sp?) dialogue for days processing it to try and get it to sound like it belonged there.  I was only about 80% happy with it, but preferred it over the original.

Asteroid-Man: The closest thing we had to a script was the outline ID posted a few pages ago.

If you do decide to "take-on" the project I would be more than happy to discuss it with you over msn, icq or whatever.  Keep in mind if it was just a matter of editing the movies together we would have finished this thing long ago.  The music has to tie it all together or it just doesn't work.  That's why we tried so hard to change the music of the PT and to a very small extent the OT as well.  Our entire edit was based around this cohesion.

Of course that's just the way we were going to do it.   :)

Does anybody want the Mace/Palp duel reposted?  I didn't know if that was still readily available or not.

I would also ask everyone to keep in mind that these clips are in low quality wma stereo sound. The release was to be  5.1 DD.  I would listen to something on my headphones (which are decent headphones, Sennheiser) and it would sound ok. Play it back through the 5.1 system in my family room and everything fell apart. I eventually moved everything around in the room so I could edit directly into 5.1. This made it much easier but also showed us very early on what we were up against.

This project needs a brilliant audio editor or a clean dialogue track.

Unless someone wanted to cut and paste the scenes together without trying to change the soundtrack. We wanted to do something more than that.

Although seeing all the great responses today makes me wonder if we shouldn't have done something different.  Sad part is I do have the first half of ANH cut and sitting on my timeline in Vegas.  ID finished the rough cut of the first half and I was working on the audio when we realized that it just wasn't going to work the way we wanted it to.

Next up is the "Bar Scene".  This was our take on it.   Of course no color correction was done and once again the audio was very rough.  You will notice two shots of Boba Fett added.  The idea was to imply that Zam went to the bar to meet with "Jango" since the attempt on Padme went horribly wrong.  We See "Jango" and then see Zam turn away implying she has received further orders from "Jango".   We were going to try and color correct the shots so Boba looked like Jango.  Once Obi-Wan does the slice and dice on her "Jango" makes a quick exit.  I also have to give a nod to Trooperman here,  we borrowed a couple of his ideas which you guys will undoubtedly realize.

I absolutely loved this idea! It finally made sense why Zam would run into a bar with no escape.  Sadly enough ID came up with this idea all on his own.  :(   No creative talent in these bones boys.........   I'm just the "tech" guy. :)

ID also found a great piece of music to play behind this scene.  "Iziz Cantina"

i really liked the clip. what was the music used at the gravestones?

 Sorrow by Lisa Gerrard.

Next clip is the love scene.  It's short but I think it would have been very effective.  Same rules apply to this clip. It was never finished.

We also realized while doing this that Vegas is not the software to use for slow motion.

Wow, that was really good!

I really like how it all seems to fit together. I'm not to keen on some of the new music, but I do like most of the changes.

Got some more clips? :)

I really wish ID would have had time to do the scene with "Star Wars music" but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.  :(

and I'm not the creative one so please don't ask! :)

I should be able to post a few more clips.  Some of them I have to do some work on or they wouldn't mean anything.  They were just ideas that we layed out on the timeline.  One in paticular I have to re-create again. I know we did it, but I can't find a veg file that has it intact.

I know everyone wants to see the "InfoDroid approved" love scene, but that's the one I'm not sure I have everything for.  I'll be checking when I have time and let everyone know.

I have obtained a copy of DE's ANH disc. Many thanks to whoever was seeding it on mininova!

I'm going to post the "death scene" as we called it later tonight.  This scene probably more than anything represents what we were trying to do.  This should go without saying, but the scene was never finished, it is very rough.  No audio at some points, very few foley effects, some things out of sync, etc etc.....

Things we did do, created new lightsaber sound effects, "Pleasantville effect", used HD version of ANH to crop and pan the closeup of Luke and added new background music of course.

ID was also going to do this scene with "Star Wars music" in case this didn't fit for some people, but he never got around to it.

I will be posting more as I dig up old veg files. :)

Small update:

I have the prologue!  I actually converted it to vob format and burned it to a dvd. I might still be able to pull it up in vegas , but I'm missing some of the music files.

I still have the mace/palp duel in vob format.  I think that's on the net though.

Couple of things I'd like to show , but I never converted them to vob and I don't have Darth Editous's version of ANH anymore.  I'm trying to get a copy of that again so I can pull up the rest of the stuff in Vegas and convert it to something I can upload.

Most of the work happened with DE's ANH and somehow I lost it.  :(

I've gotten several  pm's in the last few weeks about the project so I'm going to reply in the thread for all to read.

ben_danger:

I'll check in the next few days and see if I still have the Prolouge.

Unfortunately we never did decide on how to do the transitions. What little we did talk about it, it was obvious we had very different opinions so we just left it at that.

I'm almost positive that I don't have the "Infodroid Approved -- Love Scene" :)  Once again I'll check and see.

I do have some things that I don't believe anyone outside of ID and I have seen.  I'll see if those are renderable and let everyone know in a few days.

I wouldn't mind being available for advice or "discussing" the project.

I believe I answered all of Beatho's questions as well.

If you want to perform CPR on this project, have a go at separating the dialog tracks from the prequels.  If you can find a method with professional results, this project will have a pulse.

That's one of the most, "Nail on the head" statements I've seen in a long time.  We really thought we had a handle on it this time.  ID had absolutely fantastic music laid over parts of AOTC that really gave it a desperate, dark, foreboding feel.  He had recut the discussion in Palps office at the beginning of aotc which led into the balcony scene of Anakin and Obi-Wan, to Padme's bedroom then tied it perfectly into the speeder chase sequence.  We threw away every channel except for the dialogue track of course in all of these scenes.  I laid in sound effects, ambience, room tone, etc, etc but nothing could be done about the music still in the center channel.  We thought we could mask it somehow.  We obviously were very wrong. This more than anything truly killed the project.   When we realized we could not change AOTC enough to somewhat fit into ANH it became impossible to edit the two together.

It's with great regret that I inform everyone that the Reborn project is officially DEAD.

After a three hour phone conversation with ID tonight we have decided that to finish this project up to the standards we expect is just not possible for us.

No one really has any idea how many hours we have poured into Reborn in the last year and have very little to show for it. We wanted to do more than just a “cut and paste” job but it kept coming back to that is really all we could accomplish.

The more we looked at the six films the more we realized that Jedi and Sith really are the only two that go together well. We were attempting to “shoe horn” AOTC into ANH with very little success.

It is time for us to move on. We either had to finish Reborn or put it to rest once and for all. After going through everything for the past two weeks we realized putting it to rest was our only option.

If there's anyone that would like to “pick up” the project I would be willing to discuss what we have done and/or tried to do.

I know the clip I posted this weekend wasn't well received , but it is available for anyone that wants it without the music mixed in.

To the few fans we still had. :) I do apologize for not completing this and hope someone picks up the project at some point so we can all see it finished.

I agree. I just haven't got to that point yet. :) I laid the music in five minutes before I posted the clip, it was just to give everyone an idea of what we are doing and I welcome opinions good or bad.

There are multiple ambience tracks that run constantly. I'm not big on doing commentary tracks, but I MIGHT do one for that scene. There's so much little stuff that had to be done I'd hate to forget it all in a few years . :)

Feel free to point out anything in detail. Where the instance takes place and what ship for example. At this point it's very easy to add more effects. I've watched it so much in the last few months I'm sure there are things I don't notice anymore.

I would also encourage you to listen to the original again. There wasn't as many sound effects as I had originally thought.

Wow! Cool covers!

You guys don't know how bad we want to see this done. Real life just keeps getting in the way.

When we started this project we really had no idea how much work would be involved to finish it up to the standards we wanted. I spent about six weeks on just the Zam speeder chase scene. Throwing away the entire soundtrack on a six minute action sequence and rebuilding it in 5.1 from the ground up might not have been the best idea. :)

Reborn is waiting on me to finish remodeling my living room so I can get the computer hooked back up to the surround system.

I was trying to finish the coruscant chase scene when my wife decided it was time to remodel. :)

The good news is that scene is 95% finished. Just some small tweaks with the individual channel levels and it should be good. I have about 15 minutes of AOTC footage to go through and see if it's possible to replace the music and retain the center channel. After that we should have a rough cut of the first half.

Might be tough to get ID away from Indiana Jones though.......................
