Disney's Beauty and the Beast [spoRv] BD-25 (Released)
Time

Ok, thank you very much!!

yes, it's just as I've thought.

The backgrounds in the original are blurry, as the film is supposed to be, so as to add depth to the film.

Unfortunately with the filter this effect is lost. The background becomes flat and not blurry. (although the characters seem indeed much much better!)

But, I'm not criticizing your procedure, this is the best it could look when you apply filters. You did a great job with it as I see from previewing the incomplete downloaded file!

The thing i'd like to do for my own viewing pleasure, since I love grain, would be to add grain and simulate a 35mm film reel watching experience.

I have a great virtualdub filter (with extension *.vdf) that I use in my video editing software (MAgix MovieEdit), but i'm not sure how to use on the complete film, since this would involve re-encoding and i don't want to lose quality.

I thought of applying an add grain effect on the fly, watching the Bluray with et. MPC, but I don't know what to use.

I found the old 1080p itunes rip of Sword in the Stone quite good.

Is the LD audio different/better?

I would be interested more in Lion King I think.

And that's because there were changes/errors in the DVD/BLuray.

Is the LD picture in good condition?

By the way, thank you again for BATB. I will try to make some room in my hard disc because I'm looking forward to it!!

edit: Oh, i also think that a film that would need a preservation desperately would be Cinderella.

The DVD and BLuray are no good (the VHS has more detail), and a Laser Disc rip I downloaded wasn't very good either (I think it was Molly's?).

But I'm not sure if there are better sources..

Can i ask a question:

The horrible changes of colors on the BLuray and DVD had caught my attention, and didn't examine at all the audio..

Is the Bluray audio significantly changed (apart from the expanded position of effects etc.) comparing to the original audio?

I mean are there any new effects recorded, missing music, etc., like in the terminator?

I believe the Bluray "corrects" a line of the Beast? is that all?

Can I ask something:

I guess there aren't itunes versions (like the un-restored Sword in the Stone which was exquisite!) of the Jungle Book, Robin Hood, Aristocats, right?

or any other HD unrestored (with grain) Disney animation at itunes? or HDTV versions?

I see there is an HDTV version of Aristocats, but unfortunately it's not 4:3.

Help: looking for... 'The Lion King' - Original Theatrical Version, from VHS or LD?
Time

Has anyone done a Lion King preservation project in Bluray quality?

And please, can anyone tell me how can i search in this forum? Isn't there a search button?

I have asked this a couple of times before.,.

I'm always searching in google to find threads here (putting the title of movie I'm interested in, and originaltrilogy)

Ok, don't worry. ;)

(looking forward to your Beauty and the Beast, as I wrote in your thread. The screenshots look encouraging for a very good transfer, comparing to the laserdisc rip I already have. An official Bluray of the original film reel restored (with grain and original colors) would be a dream come true to me, but unfortunately I don't think I'll experience it in my lifetime! So your efforts are greatly appreciated!)

Yes, I have posted it, in the link that i have in my previous post.

Noone replied unfortunately.

Even if someone had just a laserdisc rip or an HDTV rip it would be great!

The Terminator (1984) - Original Theatrical Mono Preservation (Released)
Time

Hello.

i wanted to ask, where is this track available?

By the way, I found this video that lists all (?) the changes:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xykcul_the-terminator-1984-original-mono-audio-track-vs-remixed-audio-track_shortfilms

Wow! I didn't know it was altered so much!

It even misses parts of the music score.

Eg. that music at 0.35'' that I really liked, is absent in the 5.1 mix!

has anyone found any 35mm reel of Beauty and the Beast?

I had found one in the past:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Disney-BEAUTY-AND-BEAST-35mm-Cinema-Movie-Theatre-Film-ALL-5-REELS-/200798619463

I contacted the guy, after the listing ended, and he said he still had it!

I can't understand how he could, since it says there was a winning bid.

If you think a movie should receive a [spoRv] treatment, post your ideas here, using BOLD for each movie title, and explain why and how it should be preserved or restored; as you can see, I much prefer sci-fi and horror movies, but I like action too!

Hello again here.

Well, I assume it's not your kind of thing but one movie i would suggest is RAINTREE COUNTY (1957) starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift.

Here's a thread I had started about this:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Raintree-County-1957/topic/16310/

why?

Because this is a very important movie, the first that was shot in UltraPanavision 70.

It's very impressive with wonderful scenery and a masterful music score.

It's considered the widescreen "Gone With the Wind".

There isn't any official DVD release of it, and Warner seems not interested in releasing this in Bluray anytime soon.

For 2-3 years it has been voted the most anticipated Blu-ray in Home Theater forum.

how?

Well, there is a Laserdisc version that I know of, although i don't know its quality.

Also it has been broadcasted on TCM, and it will be broadcasted again in end of June and beginning of July.

I also have heard that it was broadcasted in HDnet Broadcast and it looked very good! But I've been unable to find any rip of this broadcast.
