transfer resolution of 4x6 photo prints for preservation?
Time

I couldn’t find much info on this and I’ve got a bunch of old family photos i want to digitize so I thought Id ask here. What is the practical max resolution of an old school 35 film photo print? I know film varies from case to case but at want point would I just be getting wasting time? my scanner maxes out at 1200 dpi which if I did my math right is about 20 megapixels.

insane ways to get the message across
Time

Okay we all have ideas on how to convince Disney to re-release the theatrical cut. So which methods have you wanted to try but were afraid too? OR have actually gone and done. please, remember this is for crazy ideas.

I imagine a t shirt with “Lucas Raped My Childhood…” on the front, and " And Disney legalized It" on the back would get the point across, but that might wind up getting me sued or something.

Any other insane ideas?

Idea & Info Wanted: "fatal glass of beer" - 16mm hd project
Time

well I managed to get an original print of this silly short film from 1933. Its sort of hard to find in good quality so ill be looking into getting a decent hd transfer of it done. since this is in the public domain, i’ll be able to easily distribute it at archive.org or on disks to friends. one thing I’m still debating is if I should go full 1080 or 720, cost although not paramount is a factor in this as I have no way to do the actual transfer myself. Am I going to gain much of anything by going with the higher 1080 transfer?

best legal movie download sites.
Time

yes, i know downloads are second rate quality compared to disks, but what download sites have you used? Im not talking about streaming sites and on demand stuff where once you cancel a subscription you cant watch your movies, but actyual downloads where you get a video file on a pc hard drive. currently the only site i use is archive.org, which is free. Any suggestions for other pay and/or free sites. Im only interested in legal sites.

nothing after 1949 is REALLY Batman. You had Adam West in the 60’s…and then a slew of shit-covered, muppet-fart campy movies…then the ‘dark knight’ trilogy…(which I enjoyed a lot but doesn’t compare to the serials of the 40’s)

Why is nobody acknowledging this list? For the life of me, I never expected to see this.

Especially since neither of those things are films.
they were shown in theaters, so they are.

OT Theater Screening: so we're getting the 97 special edition again?
Time

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Wars-Original-Trilogy-Coming-Back-Movie-Theaters-Which-Versions-124257.html

so the original are coming to the alamo drafthouse theater in august, but unfortunately not the theatrical versions, but not the 2011 edition either. Apparently its the original special edition. Seems to me like an odd choice, 97 special edition? why? Okay, its been awhile but is it really that hard to get the version everyone wants, or is disney just pandering to lucas for some reason? what are your thoughts?

good looking labels on the cheap
Time

aside from hand drawn pictures with sharpies, what methods have you used? Lightscribe looks cool, but at around $2 for a dvd and no bluray option it doesnt make much sense. print on disc capable printers are apparently out there, but not as a cheap standalone option as far as I can find. Stick on labels are a problem waiting to happen, peeling and throwing off disc balance. I have considered rubber stamping, but haven’t tried it yet, will update when I do.
