I was just reading up on the sad state of John wayne’s The Alamo. Its future looks grim according to this report http://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/052814_1330 apparently mgm doesn’t want to pay for it, and donations aren’t enough to fill the gap. so, unless a decent print can be found, all we can do is whine to mgm and make due with sources from older transfers.

you’ll have to rencode to put in scenes. but if done right you wont be able to tell the difference. so far the only free program that ive found that works is kdenlive, which means you’ll have to kiss windows goodbye(not a bad idea anyway). unless you’re going to sell copies, which legally, you could, all films before 1923 are U.S. public domain. otherwise go with 20fps and make a data disk out of it.
can anyone recomend an authoring program with menus and good support for lower resolution encodes of four hours or more?
okay, I know there are websites claiming there are hundreds of these movies, but then I google some of the titles and find dvd copies for most of them. I figure such a list on this site would be valuable for us collectors of weired stuff. Now Im not counting unofficial bootlegs and non-shows/movies, like excersize videos and school lectures, but what titles do you know of that are not available on dvd? here are some that I know of
Shining time station (most of the show never even made vhs)
where in the world is carmen sad diego(never on home video)
tales of the 3rd dimension (vhs)
song of the south (duh)

just relized that my old computer, now wife internet surfing computer is now ten years old, all only upgrade to the old pentium d rig is install ubuntu, remember when a four year old pc was a dinosaur? anyone else still making good use of a dinosaur?

well I admit older digital projectors had crappy quality like my homemade job with a pc screen and old style overhead projector hacked together. Believe it or not, you can actually still buy 16mm and super 8 film and cameras.(if you want to end up paying $10 a minute lol! Personally Im still keeping my eye out for a good 16mm projector. its a hobby think
however in the end I dont think Ill use it a lot. my 720p unit looks good enough to me for casual movie watching.
sigh, trek is no longer trek. I quit watching the new stuff when “enterprise” came out. most of my original series disks are scratched up and dont work anymore, should rip the ones H ave and put them on new disks and buy replacements for what I cant recover.
i have heared that “some” of those converters have hidden options to Hack them into ignoring the copy protection, but having never used that particular type of converter i wouldnt know much about that trick.

yes, they’re protected by macrovision like virtually all comercial tapes. some places will convert others wont. I did mine myself with honestech vhs to dvd 5.0, has no problem with copy protection.
uhh, your using a crappy editing program then(pinnacle studio?). mkv is just as editable as any other format.
yes, i’ve wondered who they bribed to make that happen. so far theres been a lot of chopping away, waking up drunk on a plane after a wild party for a new beginning, and completely removing the dumb hypnotic trance plot, and having the sacrifice being fed to a bunch of fish, I was tempted to put the death star in the sky as a joke, but havent yet gone that far.
I assume they’ve invented photographs in star wars.
