Hello everyone! Just a reminder that scanning is not cheap, and without new contributors I won’t be able to organise scanning of everything I would like to.
There are three new projects I would like to pursue:
- Fantasia (KOSTAL) from 2 prints (1 Kostal print, 1 IB print).
- Sleeping Beauty.
- Lady and the Tramp IB/Technicolor from 2 prints (plus the LPP already scanned).

Lady and the tramp technicolor, that would be cool, team negative’s lpp already looks great to my eyes, but the more the better.
Here’s a case of an old movie that’s been abandond by paramount until recently. The thing is the original cut is in the public domain and is available from lower quality releases. then in 2013 paramount release a restored dvd for their archive editions in the form of an extended cut with a new copyright and the theatrical wasn’t included.
Now twilight time has licensed the film for a limited edition bluray, but again it’s only the extended cut and this time it has the surround sound. Not that there’s anything wrong with the extended cut, but being a collector I want both versions, So I’ll be re-cutting it to it’s theatrical version again.
I assume the colors are accurate as I’ve only seen low quality releases of the original so I wont be messing with the bluray color timing, Unless someone knows something I don’t. I also would like to make a surround sound track, but my editor only supports stereo so that may be a while down the road.
It’s time for me to upgrade my old vga hp l1908w 1440x900 monitor. I’m looking for a good 4k or 1440p monitor, but given how budget is an issue we’re talking $300-$350 ish, I’m wondering if I’m even going to be able to tell the difference of going 4k. at that price range I’m thinking I can getting a higher end 1440p screen than I could with 4k, IE better contrast and color? Any suggestions/recommendations?

Temple of Doom is probably the only movie that ever scared me. The heart scene quite freaked me out when I saw it (must have been 6 or 7 at the time), and even though I enjoyed the rest of the movie I kinda avoided it for the next couple of years.
I’ve often wondered what happened with that one, It’s really just a horror movie, so how did it manage to get an initial pg and later pg-13 rating? didn’t the British sensors make george cut that scene to avoid a full blown R rating?
does anyone know if there is a color filter to average out the hue, contrast , gamma, etc over multiple frames or a whole scene, or is this something that pretty much has to be done one frame at a time?
when I was modifying my overhead into a cheapo experimental projector, I used vlc players transform option to pre-flip the image so it came out correct, why not build one of these while your at it?

It was bound to become a problem sooner or later, people have been selling illegal copies of “song of the south” and “the keep” for the same old profit based rule supply and demand. Unfortunately there’s not a whole lot that we can do about it though.
We’d be more interested if it was a smaller file that doesn’t take up like a 1/4th of hard-drive space.
I wasn’t talking about the uncompressed version, this will fit onto a single layer bluray, although I might make an even smaller version for avchd discs at some point.
Sita Sings the Blues is 2008 independent animated feature by Nina Paley. The dvd sound is stereo and near as I can find the only surround sound version is in 35mm. The best bluray compatible download at present is 1080x1440p mpeg2.
Fortunately, the film’s creator has generously made the working materials needed available for anyone to work with. This version will feature a fresh encode at 1080x1920 h264 from a 210 gigabyte master and both stereo and surround mixes.
Anyone interested? If so I’ll upload it.

what a load of badly written pointless dribble. I haven’t heard anyone praise the prequels since they came out, and then it was the same crowd who could watch a movie in black and white. Now some of my friend who were going on about how great they were then, won’t even consider watching them.

trying to come up with some programs to create a lossless audio track from 6 .wav files(16bit) each. I can get it working with ac3 from audacity but lossless doesn’t work after muxing it into the movie with mkvmerge. What programs do you use?
It would fun to do, last I checked there’s not much stopping people from making documentaries about movies, I think that would be considered fair use?
I guess that explain why we don’t see very many rodians in that movie, they’ve all been chopped up by soylent corp.

yeah, theoretically by the 100th anniversary the copyright will have expired and it’ll be public domain. Then there will be dozens of different releases. Too bad half of us will be dead by then.
a decent printer with disc printing ability doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars my epson xp-630 was only about $140. there are probably other photo printers for less than that, it’s a common feature on photo printers.
archive.org would be a good place to set up a download page for this.
