wow, finally someone mentions something that has actual value on 35mm, seems everyone is worried about movies that will always be available in some form of HD. it doesnt actually look that bad for 1917, any luck on identifying the fighters or which match this was?

hmm tech talk…I’ll always use a phone that’s dumber than I am and preferably a flipper. No overpriced macs or modern versions of windows. I use a cannon vixia and an epson projector. That’s about the extent of the modern stuff worth mention.

That’s what they did for Beneath the 12 Mile Reef, the restored release is an extended cut, and of course they’ve yet to bother restoring the original.

I’ve wondered about how the dmca stuff works with public domain material. Although, I don’t know of too much enforcement beyond takedown notices.

yeah me too, I was reading awhile back on a website for how to license movies, that star wars hasn’t been available because of rights issues, hopefully with disney buying out parts of fox that’ll change.

I recently aquired the german vhs of earthbound(1881 burl ives film) however I it doesnt play on my vcr so I’m assuming it’s in the PAL format. How can I identify PAL compatible players? or is somebody here already equiped to for such? The goal here is to sync it to the english broadcast recordings.

well dnr is annoying when they do it, too many weirdos hate grain on 50 year old films, as for color timing, I think alot of them are imaginary. A lot of the “colour timing” projects I’ve seen are so subtle I personally can’t tell the difference. And wouldn’t old film reals of varied from batch to batch a bit to begin with?

According to several people at archive.org it depends. Just a new transfer and minor work generally don’t qualify, but major work might. some releases are clear on this matter for example my copy of “the brain that wouldn’t die” says specifically that the bonus features and the disc artwork are copyrighted. By the way archive.org has had a decent high definition copy of that long before the criterion release.

just because it’s on 35mm doesn’t make it worth anything.

35mm “preservations” of stuff already out on bluray is getting ridiculous, eventually it may lead to trouble.

Snow kill was a harcore 1990 tv drama that has never been released in any format other than laserdisc and vhs. Not even a bootleg until now. I got this from ebay while searching for collectibles and captured it with a vtop usb capture and a Pioneer cld-1080 player.

Technically anything would be possible through the Force, it’s the fabric of the universe after all, but actually mastering it to that level is another thing entirely. At least that’s how I’ve always understood it.

true lies just got done with a 1080p 35mm preservation, I havent seen it so I cant comment on the overall quality.

Bonanza and the Beverly hilbillies had their theme song completely replaced on some dvd releases, not sure if all of the releases are altered, apparently they were to cheap to license the theme songs, music rights suck.
