I’ve been considering seeing Star Trek Beyond, as I’ve heard its more in the mold of classic Trek than ST ‘09 & STID. Now, I still haven’t seen the prior two movies and still don’t plan to. Can this movie be viewed as a standalone film, or is it too mired in the continuity of Abrams’ films?

COFFEE’S GUIDE ON EVERYTHING YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO KNOW BEFORE WATCHING BEYOND

•Kirk’s dad was a starship captian, but died.
•Spock Prime was living in the Abramsverse for a while, and everyone knew it

…that’s it iirc.

Also, the planet Vulcan was destroyed in the first film, making Vulcans a rare race, the remnants of which are trying to restart their species on a New Vulcan colony. Oh, and Spock and Uhura have been dating.

They’re not super important, but there are things that won’t make sense if you don’t know them.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

When the Death Star, under command the command of Grand Moff Tarkin, followed the Millennium Falcon to Yavin via tracking device and was subsequently destroyed, it is almost certain that they did not keep the location of the Rebel Base a total secret from the rest of the Imperial Navy. As such, even though the Death Star was destroyed, the Base’s location was no longer secret. How, then, did the Rebellion have time for an awards ceremony before evacuating? Surely the arrival of some portion of the Imperial Navy was imminent.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

I had a dream the other night that I was in a museum where you could watch any of the Star Wars films, but they had accidentally uploaded the original 1977 version of Star Wars into the system.

Except this version included a previously unknown deleted scene in which, high on a scrubby green hill, Grand Moff Tarkin, Obi-wan Kenobi and a third character debated Luke’s fate. The third character resembled a muppet-style talking hay bale, dressed in a brown robe, and was named Kale. The argument got pretty heated, and it ended with Obi-wan leaping into the air to deliver a kick to Kale’s face.

Now if that doesn’t count as General Star Wars Random Thoughts…

I just read something on the Wordpress page about Vader retaining his red lenses. I was actually wondering about that especially after seeing them on Vader’s helmet still intact on Rebels. Nice to hear that you’re going back to them, Ady. Your explanation makes perfect sense. 😃

Now another thing I’m wondering is the Rebel Hangar on Yavin IV. After watching fighters flying out of the Hangar on Rogue One, what’s the possibilities of seeing something similar happening on ANHR:SE? Mind you, though, the scene looks fine as it currently is anyhow.

I’m sure Ady would love to build a model of the Massassi Temple. Part of that is sarcasm, most of it is fear that he will. 😉

If he does, I shan’t be complaining lol. Heck, I recall the time when he’d mentioned something about having a scale model of Cloud City that somebody had built. Possibilities of filming multiple angles would certainly be endless! 😉

That’s no model…

Yeah, couldn’t find the exact word to actually describe what it was, maybe a maquette or something…

It’s a an actual city.

The whole dining room is one city

Agreed that this would be great, just as the battle droid was great. U-Wings parked in the Yavin hangar (though not flying out to combat, wrong type of mission for that) would be great too.

I like all of this. But, one could theorize that they only had two U-Wings and both went down at Scarif.

One could also theorize that all K2 droids were removed from Imperial Service immediately following review of footage from Jedha and Scarif demonstrating they can easily be reprogrammed and are thus a security risk.

I mean, one could

Or that we don’t see them in the 3 hallways we see in ANH.

Hah, now there’s a ridiculous, unlikely, improbable scenario.

Weird probably impossible idea, could C-3PO replace both TC-14 and JarJar in the Phantom Menace?

3PO belongs to the trade federation and greets Qui-Gon and Obi on the ship in the beginning (re colored and redubbed with an Anthony Daniels soundalike or Daniels’ voice clips from cartoons/radio dramas etc.)

Then he somehow accidentally stumbles onto one of the federation drop ships and winds up on the surface, saved by Qui-Gon instead of JarJar (would have to rotoscope out JarJar frame by frame and composite in new footage of an actor in 3PO costume). He accompanies them from then on, and his meet cute with R2 is moved earlier to the scene when Padme is cleaning R2 (3PO again replacing JarJar)

I like it, but how do you get them from the forest to Theed? Either you skip Otoh Gunga, in which case there’s no way of introducing the Gungans for the film’s finale, or you need to make up some way that a protocol droid goes with them to an underwater city they might not even know about.
