Also people make perfectly good Vader costumes - no one needs an original.
Also PT Vader would not be wearing an ESB costume.
Yeah, I’d be interested to know how many Marvel movie adaptations were done without seeing the finished film. Did they all feature scenes that were ultimately cut? Jack Kirby’s version of 2001: A Space Odyssey being the exception as it was done around 1976.
An interesting one (for me at least) was the Conan '82 adaptation. It’s vastly different to the finished film, but over the years it has become increasingly evident that it was pretty accurate in terms of the original script. That’s what’s so fascinating to me - it’s almost as if two parallel versions of these movies were being created. A lot of the stuff that seemed so inaccurate in the TESB adaptation has shown up in deleted scenes and script drafts.
ROTJ was probably the most ‘film accurate’ adaptation I was aware of back in the day, but for me it arguably has better dialogue than the movie in a number of places. I see it as a kind of ‘what if ROTJ had been directed by someone else’.
This reminds me of the original Back to the Future novelization
Who said he survived?
This should be merged into that thread about the missed grappling hook
It’d be pretty interesting to see the new canon take on SotE
I mean, there are definitely things to talk about with the trailer.
Yeah, the change in quality is, unfortunately, jarring.
I could stabilize the Obi-Wan and R4 shots to help them fit better.
True, but I think the precedent (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ljo-YxsvV1Y) has a little motion on the screen shots too. Basically, however much motion is present on some of the shots needs to be present on all of them.
Well, and it’s centered around May 4th, aka “May the Fourth Be With You”
Great stuff as always Snook! A little nitpick, when the ship’s computer shows, I think the shot should shake a little to flow the edit better.
100% agree. The static-ness of the shot is jarring.

The AFI Silver, in Silver Spring, MD, is showing all 8 Episodes.
The OT listings say “1977/1997”, so it’s definitely SE - wouldn’t really surprise me if it was actually 2004 or 2011 versions, though I don’t recall what’s been the case at previous AFI Silver showings. No idea what versions of the prequels it’ll be, but probably whatever the most recent digital copy is. The ticketing shows them as playing in Theater 1, where do have the ability to project real film - but I’d be surprised in this case.
I’m tempted to go see The Phantom Menace, as I haven’t seen that in years and it’d be nice to see it on the big screen again, but schedule may prevent me.
Probably because it was a “personal edit”, i.e. for personal viewing only.
Wow! That actually looks pretty good. This is so cool. And the rocking motion of the cockpit is perfect.

Hello Jambe,
I sent you a private message.
Regards.
Then surely he was notified of it. Why tell him here?
LOCATION OF THE EMPERORS TOWER:
Having the tower in some non descript place on the Death Star felt out of place in JEDI. If the man is going to create a “high tower” to gloat over his enemies, I would imagine he would pick a place where he could not only see the battle with the most clarity, but also a place that would be highly protected. What if the Emperor’s tower was at the center of the laser dish array? Imagine the panic on Luke’s face (and our own) if you could see either the beams or even just the green of the beams outside the Emperor’s window as Luke fought Vader (so he/we are constantly reminded of the short amount of time Luke has to stop the Emperor).Isn’t it just at the north pole of the DSII? That’s not exactly nondescript.
The movie does nothing to convey this, unfortunately.
The Emperor’s gesture when he points upwards to the sanctuary moon, and Luke’s following gaze, suggest they are well south of the North Pole and probably on the Southern hemisphere. Unless gravity on the tower is backwards and they’re actually standing on the “ceiling”. The lights on the elevator do hint at it traveling “up” to that room though.
That’s a good point. They’re probably at the South Pole then. The angles when viewing the fleet from a distance suggest they’re somehow on a similar plane as the fleet.

But what is Thor looking at? What’s over there?!
That really does feel a lot more like what I saw in theaters, although I am not sure I remember the flicker being on all those later shots of televisions. But the interview & fight really seemed about right. It was not easy on the eyes.

Was Lucas quietly revising the history of the film even then?If I’m not mistaken, he was having McQuarrie redo the paintings so they could all see how the shots would look with the new Falcon design.
Makes sense. I wish the originals had been included in the McQuarrie portfolio at the time. Thanks for the explanation! 😃
I think it’s covered in Rinzler’s Making Of

Because after his redemption and death he is restored in the Force to the way he ought to be rather than the way he was.
Possibly worth noting, given the nature of his website and the way he’s only posting little, skewed thumbnails, that this is essentially an advertisement.
It definitely makes sense. I can’t actually picture Dennis Lawson in my head.
Ady, I’ve always wondered: Is it possible for you to improve any of the issues outlined in this article? https://billsfilms.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-cinematography-of-empire-strikes.html
