what...what is happening with the lights?

One thing that should NOT be changed...
Shortening, or taking out Lightsaber fights (with the exclusion of any Yoda fight scenes. So unnecessary.) I see a lot of talk about how people here think the PT fights are "frivolous" and "over choreographed." I am STRONGLY against this line of thinking.
You see, the argument is that these fights have no resonance because we don't care about the characters/plot. However, if Ady can correct those issues, then all of a sudden we have our epic lightsaber battles AND a coherent plot. Maybe it's because I'm younger, and grew up loving the PT fights, but I would be crushed if they were to be shortened/deleted in any way.
Even the final ROTS duel? That thing is so needlessly long, with action & settings that border on the ridiculous/laughable
What does the use of an alternate take imply about transfers, scanning, cleanup, etc?
General Star Wars Discussion is most of the problem. The topic-specific forums (Theatrical vs SE, Preservations, FanEdits) are mostly fine other than some bickering.
Of course, I mostly just go to Theatrical vs SE to see the Comparions thread
This is why I much prefer savestarwars.com to be the public front.

I think that's meant to be Artoo on the comlink and they are debating what each beep means.
No, watch his line at 0:19 ... definitely meant to be Ani making those sounds.
Also, pretty sure those are temp-Artoo noises? They don't sound like Artoo himself.
Actually, that scene's not bad...except for Hayden's flat acting. But otherwise, pretty good. Much better than Artoo & the Jets.
No, it's been explained that everything was stored in the same trailers, so the bikes just came along with the rest of the sets.
Grievous = Maul is certainly something for faneditors & animators to consider completing.

so fan editors are going to love to play around with this.
Obviously, the entire paragraph here about ROTJ stuff is super-exciting, particularly because we've all got ridiculous expectations for ROTJ:R.
Thanks for doing the writeup on this stuff Ady; it's much appreciated!

Sorry, nope. The same thing could be said about ANY choking scene ever put in a movie - the difference between that and erotic asphyxiation (the reason David Carradine died) is that the choking is inflicted as a means to kill.
Leia wanted to kill Jabba. The end.
Although I never quite got how... was Jabba's neck at his back??
Well.... There's a bit of a sexual element between Leia and Jabba. Jabba wants Leia, makes her wear that bikini, licks her face... Leia is revolted. That's about as far as it gets, but it is sexual.
As for choking Jabba, she's putting the chain around where his neck would be, were he a human, and pulling. That, I suppose, is how you strangle someone, more or less. She's on his back because she has to stand behind him, but he's huge.
There's a thread somewhere on here about it, but the most relevant stuff can be seen on this page
As someone who was there in Baltimore and saw it, I can say that the print was not pristine, but it was pretty darned amazing. There was definitely dirt on it, but not a whole lot. It was beautiful.
I'd say that the two things I learned about Star Wars at that showing were that the colors should be pretty vivid (although the photos of the screen overdo the contrast a bit), and it should definitely look like it was made in the 70s.
Yeah, actually... the closing shot of ROTJ does a really good job of saying "Jedi wear brown robes".
Never mind.
As for fanedits, I'm sure they'll use uspcales of the dvd deleted scenes. It won't be perfect, but it'll have to do.
Sadly, I doubt there's a good way to recolor every jedi robe to black. I'm not very knowledgeable about such things, but I doubt it.

Also, some of our more perspective-lacking members might want to seriously think about getting some kind of counseling or treatment. Willful failure to restore and release a series of films <<<<<<<<< war crimes. Seriously—stow it with the depressive crap already.
I'm glad someone said this. It's true.
Point taken, particularly about the movement. I don't mind a little PT in my OT if we're trying to tie them together as a saga (as both Ady and Lucas are doing, really), but point taken.
I feel like "shoving" is a bit of an overstatement. I, for one, rather liked the addition of the battle droid head in the Jawa's crawler in Revisited.
an FAQ with this sort of info that no one reads?
You're going to want to start with the links provided in this post: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/doubleofives-List-of-Lists-and-Comparisons/topic/11575/#TopicPost416817
005 hasn't added it to his list yet, but his 2011 Blu-Ray list is here: https://picasaweb.google.com/102542760950977079734/StarWars2011Changes
Those suggestions were good, other than the pan/zoom on the exterior shot. It doesn't add "interest", but it does looks fake.

There is quite a bit of room for gray area with them.
"Only a Sith deals in absolutes"
Some of those lines are really awful.
On the other hand, I do like "Enjoy your trip, hotshot"

Which is why I think the "[REDACTED] movie would have been great if it had been rated 'R'" comment* I see so much is just dumb.
Great movies are great movies, despite their ratings- not because of them.
But a great movie can be made worse by cutting out certain parts in order to achieve a lower and more marketable rating.
I think it's mostly the Gungans that stand out as being truly awful.
