It's Official: George Lucas hates his fans :P
Time

Hold on

There are two issues. There's the lack of the originals-release, and that's stupid of George, etc etc.

Then there's the prequels being terrible. With the prequels, George made the movies he wanted to make. And everyone yelled at him (even before the SE-only-released issue). Why would he make more movies like that if everyone yelled at him for it?

So what he says is true, from a certain point of view.

Oh, I thought the Bothan discussion was dead. I may try to wade through the pages of posts soon, but until then, here was my original concept for the Bothan sequence:

1. Bothan insertion into Coruscant via spacedrop (see my previous post)

2. Bousschchhch, already on Coruscant, provides them with a way in to the Imperial facility (again, see previous post)

3. Bothans sneak through facility, get plans, and are then discovered

4. Bothans attempt to escape, but are killed off one by one, until the final Bothan is picked up in mid-air by a Blockade Runner which surreptitiously leaves one of the skylanes, grabs the Bothan, and takes off for the sky at maximum speed (All those engines have got to count for something).

5. Boushh watches, intended as a backup plan, but gets into his ship and leaves once the Bothan has excaped. "Transmission incoming" reveals a photo/holo of the Falcon on Tatooine - Boushh jumps to hyperspace.

Regarding fur: Leave the Bothans fully helmeted and covered, but with strangely, unhuman shaped helmets (more snoutlike). Then, when one dies, their helmet comes off - The only Bothan we ever see is a dead one. This is much easier than having to have several actors in Bothan makeup, but shows us the expanding, less human nature of the Rebellion.

Oh just something I thought of, there are a bunch of alternates/unused music in ROTJ, if you want I can identify them and create mockups of the music placed against the film if you are interested.

ender?

There are a few that I know are listed as alternate (Sail Barge, for example) on the soundtrack. What else? A comprehensive list would be great.

Concerning the Bothans & Boushh intro:

While I obviously realize that this entire idea would be difficult to pull off and would require a lot of participation from costumers, special effects, sound and more, I figured I'd try to write the scene anyway. Below is the beginning and I know how the scene should end, but I'm not really sure how to write the middle part (action scenes, I guess). I'll write the ending and post it later.

1 SPACE 1

The boundless heavens serve as a back-drop for the MAIN TITLE,

followed by a ROLL-UP, which crawls into infinity.

STAR

WARS

Episode VI

RETURN OF THE JEDI

Luke Skywalker has returned to Dagobah

to complete his training with the Jedi

Master Yoda, in preparation for rescuing

his friend Han Solo from the clutches of

the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt.

Little does Luke know that the GALACTIC

EMPIRE has secretly begun construction

on a second, more powerful Death Star

which, when completed, will spell certain

doom for the Rebel Alliance.

Even now, Bothan Spies in league with

the Rebellion are preparing to enter the

Imperial Capital in an attempt to capture

the new battle station's secret plans...

PAN DOWN to reveal CORUSCANT, the glimmering jewel at the

heart of the Empire. A small asteroid comes into view, slowly

tumbling toward the planet. The camera follows it downward as

it picks up speed, glowing hot and eventually burning as a

meteor, high above the nighttime cityscape of the capital.

As it begins to burn, a voice, distorted as if over a radio

but clearly having a curious accent, is heard.

VOICE

Bravo Team, prepare for insertion in five, four, three...

The meteor bursts, its final moments very bright before

disappearing in a cloud of smoke, ash and dust. From out of

the cloud fall four figures, in dark body armor, almost

invisible against the night sky, falling in formation with

military precision.

2 EXT. CORUSCANT - LANDING PLATFORM - NIGHT 2

The four figures fire small retro rockets, coming to a

sudden yet silent stop on a long, flat landing platform which

juts out from the side of one of the many skyscrapers. Their

helmets are oddly shaped, clearly hiding an alien face behind

their dark visors, while their postures bear the mark of

special forces, secret operatives. One agent looks out at the

horizon, the area directly in front of the platform strangely

clear of very tall buildings, allowing for a long view.

AGENT

It's been far too long since I was permitted to look upon this

beauty. Too long since we could walk the streets in freedom.

Their leader places his hand the agent's shoulder, comforting

yet guiding back to their task.

LEADER

Then come, my brother, and let us remember why we came. For soon,

we may all once again live free.

The agent turns back to the group and nods, as a figure emerges

from the shadows at the far end of the platform, beyond a parked

Y-WING. This figure is BOUSHH, an oddly cloaked bounty hunter,

who swiftly approaches the strike force.

AGENT 2

I do not know why we are working with this...bounty hunter.

LEADER

A great enemy makes strange bedfellows of many. Difficult things

may be required to accomplish great goals.

The agent nods, as if hearing proverbs, before Boushh reaches them.

BOUSHH (in Ubese subtitled)

I have prepared the necessary arrangements for your stay

LEADER

We would prefer the guest room with full accomodations

Boushh nods and produces a code cylinder, handing it to the Leader

who quickly pockets it.

BOUSHH (in Ubese subtitled)

You will find the bed made before you arrive

All four agents turn, quickly walking to the edge of the landing

platform, away from Boushh, revealing the massive IMPERIAL DRYDOCK

below them. Several STAR DESTROYERS are landed here, in various

stages of repair, with a central command center rising from the

middle of the sprawling complex.

The Bothans all take a running leap off the edge of the platform,

small wings unfolding between their outstretched arms and torsos,

rapidly gliding directly towards the command tower. Boushh watches

them fall, then presses a button on his wrist. A small explosion

erupts near the edge of the Drydock complex, and power begins going

out like a cloak of darkness cast over the facility.

I, unsurprisingly, think this is a great idea for a scene (or else I wouldn't be promoting it). It builds off something already in the movie ("Many Bothan Spies..."). It introduces Boushh earlier, adding further surprise to the Leia reveal. It takes us back to Coruscant, a world we haven't seen since ROTS, helping tie the Celebrations back together a little better (note: I think the Celebrations are key for PT-OT integration, even Naboo). It provides the film with an exciting opening (You know, the action-y bits that I don't know how to write).

Like I said, I'll post the ending of the scene later.
