The official "Who is going to Star Wars Celebration, Anaheim California, April 2015?" thread

I'm betting that the OOT will never be mentioned at Celebration. I mean why talk about an obsolete product that was discontinued 20 years ago that we ended up liking by accident?

They didn't talk about it. I was at a panel with Dennis Muren and one of the audience members asked about it because Dennis said he had recently watched a faded and scratched 35mm Return of the Jedi screening. Dennis didn't have any influence over releasing the the OOT so didn't have much to say. He understood the desire for it, but couldn't really do much about it.

I was at another panel with Kathleen Kennedy on the last day and I thought about asking there, but they didn't allow any questions from the audience.

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *
Time

Spoiler alert...

I was there when it was shown and also at the closing ceremony when they talked about it. They asked us all not to take any pictures or videos. ILM threw it together just before Celebration so they would have something to show. They didn't start filming yet.

From what I remember about the trailer:

It starts out flying over a forest looking down, then it starts panning up and you see tie fighters flying and eventually a very huge death star in the sky. Then it fades to black with a black hawk down type of chaos going on over the radio.

It is going to be about stealing the death star plans. All of the jedi are gone and the rebels have to make it happen on their own, so it is a very desperate and critical time. It will have a lot of war in it hence the name Star Wars.

They also showed some concept art which I took a picture of in the closing ceremony. If its not already out there, I will post it when I get a chance.

I thought it looked good, except the death star was way too big in the sky to be confused with a small moon in A New Hope. The only way it could be that big is if it was in a super low orbit.

Tolvo, I am not answering for Mike, but my opinion is that this is the best representation of the first movie of the original trilogy that will be available. In my opinion it is a restoration and some of the restoration requires a lot of work to "recreate" the original because parts of it were lost like in the scroll at the beginning, but it still is the same as the original with the end product. Mike hasn't added anything new. Some of it just looks better than ever before. So, in summary, this is the OUT (first movie only at this point) in the best form it will ever probably look in my opinion.

Hi Mike,

Very nice and funny comparison. Where you comment on the red part of the blu-ray looking like a comb are you sure that is not simply an artifact of 4:2:0 chroma sub-sampling which is required in blu-ray? I notice stuff like that all the time whenever there is red in a scene on a blu-ray or DVD and it drives me crazy. It's especially noticeable on red lights like brake lights and neon signs.

Thanks for the explanation Mike. Your approach with what to correct seems good to me and makes sense now. Agreed that in this case it is a compositing issue. They didn't overlay the glow in the right spot. The glow on the engines is misaligned the entire time, not just at the end in my opinion and I think the brightness changes at the end because the ship is rotating so when it is more straight on, you see less of the red glow since it is more intense.

Hi Mike,

Still loving all of your videos. I was just watching the "Red 5 Standing By" video again and noticed that the black (space) part has a fair amount of shadowy/smokey flicker to it. It is especially noticeable on the right side of the screen, but it is everywhere. That is probably easy to fix by adjusting the levels in the space areas, so I thought I would mention it.

Thanks for sharing all of your amazing videos with us showing how much work you put into this.

Hear, hear! I just watched all of Mike's videos and I am blown away at what he was able to achieve and the amount of skill and tools he has at his disposal. I doubt any "professional" restoration would match it given the time and care he has apparently put into every frame. I am most excited about how he used multiple sources to find the original film grain and filter out the rest. I am not sure if it would be Disney or Fox who would buy it though. Since it is only the first movie, this is a great chance for Fox to make some more money on just the one episode.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Yeah, but they are REAL and they exist! Movies are fiction, but they create ideas that turn into reality. Also, don't forget that Griff had "power" and could go over water. That is the second link above, and it is absolutely real.

By the way, this is not off topic if you look at 2:27 in the first link I posted above. ;)

Info: Star Wars Fan Film Awards - submissions due by January 16, 2015
Time

Hi Everyone, happy 1 year before the Force Awakens! Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I noticed this today on StarWars.com:

http://www.starwars.com/star-wars-fan-film-awards

Some of you might want to submit your entries. Will we see ESB-R by January 16, 2015? How about ANR? Heck, even Harmy’s Despecialized Editions could be considered fan edits that would have a huge chance of winning and would send a clear message. 😉

I will be attending the event in person, so I hope to see one of you win it and be able to watch it at the event!

Thorr's 35 mm Star Wars Trilogy SE Trailer WQHD Restoration (Part-Finished)

I haven't worked on this since my last post. I am scanning everything in reverse, so the logo will be the last part that I do. I will get back to this project eventually. I have had some turmoil in my life recently and haven't felt like spending time on this. It should go pretty fast once I do decide to start up again.
