The Original Trilogy - a general Random Thoughts thread
Time

I was on holidays in america (orlando) in 2009, i was 14 at the time, and up until that time i had not encountered the original cuts of the movies, but i was in pizza hut and they had a vhs player playing a new hope and i was dumbfounded seeing the unaltered version. I had grown up with the 97 & 2004 edits of the movies, in which i looked at as being the normal versions.

REQUEST: Twin Peaks Season 2 - Cutting out the fluff.
Time

Hi there, I have an edit called “Twin Peaks, A Chronological Cut” which is an edit of Fire Walk with Me, S1, S2 and Twin Peaks: The Return. This cuts out a lot of the fluff in season 2, some of the slower parts of the return and then the worst bits of season 1 and fire walk with me. Drop me a PM if you want the edit, and I can let you know which parts encompass season 2.

i appreciate you replying, but i’m kind of looking for is still having most of season 2 intact, just cut james and little bits, but thank you for reaching out.

I didn’t have the effects & presets option ticked. This is a game-changer. 😃 What grain settings do you use?

Here’s a second pass

Looking at it now, Maybe the trees should be roto’d but that’s a little out my league for now.

This is really cool, it’s a little too reddish on the castle, if you turned the saturation down by 15% around the castle it would be perfect.

Anyone else think Empire Strikes Back's Special Edition is actually better than the Theatrical Cut?
Time

The reason i like the ESB special edition is because it doesn’t ruin the pacing in my opinon.

The jabba scene in ANH ruins the reveal of the falcon, it removes the mystique of Jabba & it is redundant. We already learned everything we need to know from Greedo.

Don’t get me started on Jedi rocks from ROTJ, but i will say i prefer the celebration song from the Special edition of ROTJ.

currently downloading this, looking forward to seeing what’s different but most of all hoping to hear some palpatine in the mix.

I think now that we know who Rey really is, i would scatter a bunch of Palpatine references here & there.

i haven’t read what Hal9000 has added as far as palpatine is concerned but i think during the scene where Kylo is probing Rey’s mind, i think hearing Palpatine’s voice from ROTJ say ‘‘I can feel your anger’’ subtly, yet audible, just as Kylo looks afraid would work well.

The Clone Wars (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

My brother, who is/was a surface level star wars fan, recently watched this for the first time. I have seen it several times but he wants to go through the whole series with me. That actually explains me being here & trying to obtain the best versions of the movies.

This show really upped his love for Star Wars and the larger star wars world. He loved Plo-Koon, he had forgot Plo dies, seeing as the last time he saw revenge of the sith was in the cinema in 2005 when he was 9 & i was 10.
When he got to the Order 66 montage he was so pissed off to see Plo meet his maker.

It just shows, Clone wars was able to background character and make us love them.

Poppasketti did for TLJ, and I borrowed some of what he did. For TFA:R Sir Ridley added a subtle Emperor’s Theme as we see the Vader helmet and I added Palptine speaking during Rey’s vision.

And even if jonh did want to add more force ghosts, I’d stick with the four we have. Feels right, and it’s the only Force ghosts we’ve seen in the saga.

Wow cool, i’m going to check them out.

I watched your TROS edit last night, i had seen a version of ben & the ghost scenes done before by someone but they weren’t up to the par with the versions in your version of TROS & i was afraid they wouldn’t fit, but the versions you had were beautiful. Every decision you made improves the movie so much.
I loved listening to the commentary track too.

I would like a version of the movie that keeps most of Hal9000’s changes.

My only extra edits would be this:

Keep leia’s lightsaber the same colour as it is in the movie originally.
I don’t want to see the force ghosts. I don’t want to see ghost ben solo.

Id pay someone to do it.

Why so against giving Leia’s colour the colour Carrie Fisher desired while also making it distinct from the other lightsaber being used in the scene (which helps show/emphasise that Ben uses his grandfather’s saber)?

I get not having all the ghosts in the climax… but taking Ben out of the final ghost scene was a big issue for me personally. It felt dismissive of his character arc and Rey’s as well for that matter.

Just curious to hear your reasoning.

actually the more i think about it the more im alright with the lightsaber, but i would like to ghosts removed, especially Ben’s. Simply because we don’t know what they might do in the future with him.

With all the changes to the OT, how come Lucas never fixed the Speeder scenes in ROTJ?

It’s a shame this thread hasn’t got replies yet, it’s an interesting question. SE changes are mostly colour grading and added effects shots or things; perhaps fixing lighting problems is a whole other feat. Personally, I’m glad the speeder chase hasn’t been tampered with, because I much prefer movies being true products of their time, and I enjoy the action no matter how the effects have aged.

I totally agree. i am content with it being the way it was originally, it was just a question that has always been on my mind seeing as George likes to tamper with things.
