TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

Well honestly it’s to say I changed something while I was fixing the graphical issues. But, I always felt the chess cameo was a little distracting and unnecessary.

This I agree with. I’m not opposed to fan service, there is actually a cool bit of fan service when Finn is looking through stuff and finds the blaster ball droid from ANH, its shown but it’s not a blatant attempt like the chess scene. The chess scene works in TROS because it feels like the characters are actually using it in-universe.

Prior to the sequels star wars was always self referential but that was built upon with each movie, this is one element the sequels fail at doing. The prequels were the last released movies before the purchase, which in my opinion means that reference wise they should have been more prominent in the sequels.

I think Rogue One remedies this issue at times, like seeing Bail Organa & Mustafar.

Hey everyone ! I’m done with working on the DS fight for the crackling saber and I don’t intend to modify the shots from now (but I can always share the AE files so that one can make the modifications wanted). All the shots are available here, now the only thing needed is to reunite them !

I’ll try to share the Exegol sequence next week.

This is absolutely insane. It’s incredible.

Not sure if this is something you would want implemented but watching your work on the crackling saber inspired me to make a few sounds to match it.

There is about 7 different sounds.

That’s what my meds do. If I don’t take them I just slouch around on Discord all day or something. When I take them, I have the drive to actually do something. The problem I ran into today was not knowing what I wanted to put that drive into. I have the energy but nowhere to direct it. I haven’t felt truly passionate about any of my projects for a long time, and it’s killing me. Without a project to occupy me I don’t know what to do with my life. Plus, I didn’t register for any classes this semester mainly because of how unwell I’m feeling emotionally, so I have all the time in the world but nothing to do with it. I don’t dare to commit to something without my heart being in it in both classes and personal projects, so now I’m stuck running in circles. I just can’t seem to hone in on one, maybe two particular projets to work on. I guess I did start that music video. I should finish that. Regardless, I feel so apathetic to everything even with my meds giving me the motivation I don’t feel comfortable taking on a task that should be for my own pleasure knowing I’m faking it.

It’s none of my business to know what meds you are on, i wouldn’t want to impede on your privacy, but relatively speaking are the medication for pain or would they be along the lines of an antidepressant?
I’m not sure what country you live in, but i think you should express this to your doctor, because either way medication shouldn’t be able to swerve you one way or the other and it be looked at in a positive light.

Random Thoughts
Time

In my early teens i got obsessed with 2Pac’s music & Death Row Records in general. I had, and still have, hundreds of unreleased 2pac songs, some versions of the songs never leaked, for some reason when i got into the community deep, people would send me the tracks they would buy & i would remaster them to the best of my ability (and at the time i would winging it but i kept that to myself lmao).

Death Row was sold to a company called WideAwake, and around the same time i came into possession of a bunch of death row songs, i uploaded them on on my old youtube channel, these songs had leaked before but in varying quality.

Within a day i received an email a cease and desist, but i hadn’t opened my email in about a week, and a day after getting the cease and desist, they sent me a screenshot of my ip address threatening me. I laughed it off because i was young and someone involved with death row was threatening me like i was an adult.

Clan Ordo of the Mandalorian.

The Old Republic era.

Dash would work really well in an environment like The Mandalorian, and with the way Dave loves the implement legends material, we could see him in the near future.

The Old republic will 100% appear in canon again. The High Republic is the current goal at Lucasfilm & I feel it is a worthy successor to the OLD old Republic we know from legends.

BTW, Josh Holloway would be my pick for Dash, as he’s got that rugged devil-may-care look that perfectly fits with the character.

Hot damn! Perfect pick! Loved him in Lost. I would like to see him appear across several difference shows, similar to how Hondo appeared in Clone Wars & Rebels.

Tatooine causes people to age in dog years.

I agree somewhat with this, but i also look at force users as people who age faster the closer they are to the force and how they harness it.
Obi-wan aged the way he did because of a mixture of stress, the planets conditions & the force within him causing him to age that way.

So you’re saying that without the Force, Yoda would have lived 2,000 years?

In my head I feel that way, Yoda could have lived longer but his commitment to the force meant his life was shortened.

Grave Mistake (2008) - The Best Worst Movie Ever Made
Time

I consider Grave Mistake to be the best worst movie ever made. It has the weirdest script i’ve ever read for a Zombie movie, the jokes are so bad and hamfisted, but you will laugh anyway.
For those who haven’t seen it i wont ruin it, because it so so worth going into blind.

I wish i had a digital copy of it.

The Room doesn’t hold a match to this movie in any way. I love it to death, and over the years it has been the movie my friends and i sit around watching having a laugh. It is a pity Covid has put a strain on that, but if you have family or friends living with you, watch this with them. You will be scratching your head at the outrageous dialogue, effects & acting.

If you can get your hands on it, watch it without watching the trailer, the trailer doesn’t show off any of the dialogue or jokes.

Enough of me trying to hype it up, if you get the chance, give it a watch it will brighten your day and leave you bewildered.

In the same day, I managed to get trapped in indecision twice, once without my medication and once with. Not even the same decision. I think might have a solution to the second one. What do I draw or work on in general? I’ll just rotate. Pick a random project for the day, then move on to the next. Not sure if it’ll work but it’s worth a shot. It’s frustrating not feeling passionate about anything at all.

You’re best to keep yourself busy. I hope this isn’t TMI but To be quite honest with you, i’m stuck in a rut right now. I have a back issue since i was 18, im 26 now and it’s still as bad as ever, i had years where i had procedures done and i felt relief for several months, but now because of my medication i have put on so much weight that it’s sad to look in the mirror, so i haven’t looked in the mirror in a year, the week before christmas was the lowest i ever felt, i have never been driven to ‘let go’ if you know what i mean, but the week before christmas i was nearly fully checked out and ready to let go, but if i could tell past self something, it would be to keep moving, keep busy, remember the things i love and try to stay on GO mode.

That’s a pretty common criticism. It might not be so much of a problem if the film didn’t also contain an anti-semitic stereotype in the form of Watto and Neimoidians with stereotypically Japanese accents and behaviour.

I think it could be said these were simply oversights and the filmmakers never intended the characters to be seen as racist - they often gave existing accents to alien races (Twi’leks sound French, for example) although that’s definitely questionable in itself. It’s still a totally valid thing to criticise TPM for.

You are 100% right. It doesn’t matter if George had his best intentions in mind, someone involved with the creation of the movies should have realised what was being done. I don’t like the idea of using stereotypes to make the audience laugh at a character, not laugh with.
It has the same issues that the Harry Potter series has when it comes to stereotypes & caricatures of cultures.

I’m not offended, but there should have been atleast some awareness on George & the producers part that they were feeding into something that would be perceived as insensitive.

Thanks, and absolutely, yeah. When making a film, you might not intend something as racist, edgy or offensive in any way, but you should keep an eye out for it, because stereotypes like that can ruin someone’s enjoyment of your movie. It’s like films having underlying political meanings. You could be apolitical and not be writing because of something you believe, but people are going to have a political interpretation of your work no matter what, so you’d be best to keep that in mind. Like, you want to make sure your buddy cop comedy flick isn’t inadvertently advocating for a police state or something like that.*

(*I’ve no example in mind, and in the case of Star Wars, I think George Lucas thinks very deliberately about the political message of his films anyway so that’s not a criticism)

A New Hope for instance is George’s way of bringing the Vietnam war to the big screen through the eyes of a fantasy story. In it there are no insensitive insinuations about characters, there are no stereotypical accents. He avoided the whole problem in the original trilogy completely, but once he wrote the prequels it seems he was implementing too many ‘real world’ elements under the guise of worldbuilding, hence my issue with the Neimoidians & the Gungun’s portrayals and accents. it could have been avoided, but now we’re stuck with it.

Sorry for randomly bumping the thread again, i will say, this version of the movie is the version i will watch for life, my only issue (and i know it’s just stupid to even care about in the long scheme of things) is, i would have loved to hear palpatine’s voice say ‘find me’ when Kylo was in the Crait base, i think Poppasketti had that in his Rekindled version. It’s only a small gripe, it in no way makes or breaks this edit but i thought id mention it.

The Music Discussion Thread
Time

Michael Giacchino created some of the best music i have heard in star wars, and in so little time too!

The track ‘‘Your father would be proud’’ from Rogue One is perfection. Normally in star wars when big moments happen the music swells, but with the destruction of Scariff, he played it so mournfully & sweet. We felt the sadness, and we felt the rising dread. The track Jyn Erso/Hope Suite just melts my heart. It encapsulates my love for star wars.

I love John William’s work on the Originals & the Prequels, and tracks like Rey’s theme from TFA is beautiful, but his work on the sequel trilogy left alot to be desired.

John Powell did some brilliant work on Solo, his song ‘‘Meet Han’’ felt like it came straight from Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Ludwig Göransson’s work on the Mandalorian i feel is my next sweet spot in the star wars music world. His work on the show is so ballsy, he implements characters themes perfectly but he gave us a theme song that we can literally hum/sing from beginning to end.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **
Time

JJ completely kneecapped Rian before Rian could even shout action.

We never saw a movie in canon take place immediately after the previous.

In star wars it has always been easy to make a character grow simply by letting time pass offscreen. Rian couldn’t do that, & while it would have been great to see atleast a year pass like Hal mentioned in his commentary so the change in atmosphere & things could have felt a little easier to accept.

I am happy with TROS (Hal’s edit remedies alot of my initial issues) it is literally this generations Return of the Jedi, and when you look at the movies from a production stand point they are very similar, so i am okay, kids will grow up and look at it as their ROTJ and that’s nice… but there is a part of me that wishes JJ would give the audience the middle finger and subvert the formula.

JJ has never made something that makes the audience think past the surface, and star wars doesn’t need to be so deep at times, but i would have killed to see something that made me feel different with each viewing.

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

Since Filoni never got to finish the Fett vs Bane episode of TCW it’s not impossible that we’ll get to see it in a flashback. There’s already been some speculation that the “Book” in the title refers to different chapters in Fett’s life and that it will be mostly or partially about his past. Daniel Logan, who played young Boba in AOTC, could play a young Fett and with a bit of re-writing or maybe some subtle digital de-aging they could pull it off.

With the technology being used, i would say they would de-age Temuera like they did in Aquaman, i good thing about it is, they wouldn’t even need to do it much, he would probably have the helmet on for about 80% of the show.

Rogue One isn’t good. The characters aren’t good, the Vader scene was stupid and making the Death Star flaw something intentional makes Luke destroying it in SW less meaningful. Awful movie.

After the OT, The Phantom Menace is the best Star Wars movie.

I like the Ewoks in RotJ. I also dislike Han Solo in RotJ, he’s suddenly goofy and a little dumb (in my headcanon he got some brain damage caused by the carbonite lol).

I strongly disagree with your view on Rogue One.

I think TPM is underrated and i enjoy that it’s vastly different than what we’re used to.

I hated the Ewoks, but revisiting Yoda’s message in ESB made me change my mind, it’s not about the size of the character but the power within.

I agree with your view on Han, he seems to exist in scenes, and outside of one or two scenes he is like a whole other character. I think he should have sacrificed himself to save the Rebels in the movie, i love his portrayal in TFA & how his death came about.

I would love to regrade the entire prequel trilogy, doing so would fix alot of the CGI, because in TPM & AOTC alot of the cgi vehicles & cgi characters seem to sit on a separate layer to the rest of the movie. If i had the technology to do so, id regrade them myself using Hal’s edit of Phantom Menace for instance.

More on topic with the movie, I think there is a interesting movie there, & Hal’s edit shows that.

I was interested in the SC38 scene at first, but now i find it too self indulgent & it did nothing to try and fit with the rest of A New Hope cinematography & editing wise. A couple cuts here & there in the original fight would a perfect re-edit, nevertheless the SC38 was interesting to see & i a deeply appreciate those involved in making it.

Though not perfect, its the best one yet (sadly there arent many)

I would love a finished version of this, i appreciate the original version, but since Hayden is now the canon ghost form of him, then his death scene should atleast resemble a 40+ year old Hayden.

The issues with dialogue from the prequels is evident in ROTJ. There are lines in ROTJ that sound like something from AOTC.

What lines are you thinking of, out of curiosity?

Han’s line when he comes out of carbonite:

 • Luke? A Jedi? I’m out of it for a little while and everybody gets delusions of grandeur.

That sounds like dialogue straight out of the mouth of attack of the clones Obi-Wan. you can even hear it in obi-wans voices as you read it lol.

Leia’s delivery of this line:

 • No! Luke, run away, far away! If he can feel your presence, then leave this place!.

I love melodramatic star wars, and this line sounds like it comes out of the mouth of Padme. Leia normally spoke like an actual person, but this whole line & the way she says it feels so out of character.

Once Leia’s hair is let down on Endor, Carrie’s performance is so weird in hindsight.
