And to make Mace Windu look like more of a badass, we'll have him say, well, I dunno, how about something like 'this party's over!'?

Whenever I'm watching an action movie, and then some useless woman (not a sexist comment, just she was useless to the plot) appears on the screen and I think, ugh...here comes the romantic interest.
Or when a seemingly head-strong main female role HAS to fall in love with the main male role...I REJOICE when this doesn't happen (can probably count these occasions on one hand, though).

I think that should serve as an example to TMRFE for future reference: If you're gonna use a bunch of CG/blue-screen bits in your movies, just make sure the story is good first.
Sorry, call me a Phillistine or what-not, but what does TMRFE stand for? So far, I've been pretty good at figuring out things like 'TPM', 'AOTC', 'ROTS', 'ANH', 'TESB', 'ROTJ', 'OT', 'O-OT', 'PT', 'GL', 'RM', 'DV', but I'm completely lost here!
I was interested in seeing Sin City. Pity none of my friends wanted to see it. So I take it it's a movie worth seeing, even on your lonesome? I'll have to rent it out when it comes out on video...

I fall into this category, but I certainly don't like the fact that Greedo shot first. It completely messed up Han's character and the purpose of character development on him. I am glad that at least Lucas met us halfway on that and made them shoot at about the same time. As for Jar Jar, I think that anyone over the age of 5 is embarrassed by him. To me, he's there for comic relief in the beginning, so that the series doesn't start out too serious, and be boring. Him being there basically eases you into the serious situation the galaxy is in. It was smart of Lucas to gradually reduce Jar Jar"s part to nothing, as things got more serious. He also did the fans a favor in having Jar Jar the one who let the clones be made, and allow all the problems.
The thing with the Jar-Jar role reduction is that it was obviously done to pander to everyone's hate of the character in TPM. It also goes to show how extraneous Jar-Jar was in the first place. If he was crucial to the plot of either movie (TPM & AOTC), then he probably wouldn't have needed to use fart jokes and other slapstick nonsense to be funny, we probably wouldn't have hated him, and GL would not have been able to reduce the role of Jar-Jar on the fly like that. I suppose it also goes to show how liquid the storylines of the PT were, even during filming.
Just think, if he had planned it all out as ONE concrete story, and divided it into three parts...

Instead of being an organic, natural extension, it just seems to be its own microcosm, and the backstory elements that seemed as though they were a given, have been either completely ignored, compromised, or presented in a completely unlikely manner.
When I first saw TPM, however (and even AOTC, to some extent), I was completely brainwashed by the fact that it was Star Wars. Up until then, I thought Lucas could do no wrong. I tried to convince myself that it was awesome, even though all my non-Star Wars fan friends were saying that it was crap all around me. I would stay back and watch the entirety of the credits, just to absorb the moment, and to listen to 'Duel of the Fates'. I was in 7th heaven, but it was only because it was Star Wars and it was new. That feeling soon ran outta steam, and by the 4th viewing, I realised just how disappointing and crap it really was. I was still willing to believe that AOTC was going to be WAY better, and that GL would get back on track, but how wrong was I? On the first viewing, I just tried to ignore the ridiculous romance, the irritatingly poor 'humour' of C-3PO's coincidental mishaps, Anakin's sudden brain-explosion of anger against the sand-people, the Fetts' annoying New Zealand Maori accents, etc. but it only got me through the first viewing. After that, I just lost it. I was a fanboy no more. I became a prequel-basher and an OT purist.
I have to say, though, that I enjoyed EPIII, despite its numerous shortcomings - most of the other problems came from EPI and II - but it contained most of the stuff that I only ever expected the entire PT to cover in the first place. If EPIII was stretched over the entire PT, it's entirely possible that it could've been awesome. It could've been ONE complete, pre-written story divided into 3 installments, like the OT. But on its own, it just seemed like a rush to fit everything in that wasn't covered by the other prequels (which was quite a lot).
I think a few of GL's biggest mistakes in the PT were this:
- His infatuation with CG
- Minimal collaboration
- Less meticulous casting
- Naming ANH 'Episode IV' (thus restricting himself to have to make 3 prequels, instead of say, 1 or 4)
- Loss of OT 'headspace'
- Starting with Anakin as a child (I won't get into the numerous complications this causes, but basically, it wasted an entire episode)
That's enough from me.

Heya everyone,
I’m sick of lamenting the loss of the Original-Original Trilogy, and I am looking to get hold of a remastered version of the O-OT on DVD. I have a few problems in relation to this:
a) I am unaware of all the Fan Edits created by people on this board, so I don’t even know which one I would like to get hold of!
b) I live in Australia and it could be a real nuisance getting it back to me.
Now, I don’t have a credit card, so paying for expenses online is kind of outta the question. I’d need to pay with an American money order or cheque (which I suppose could get crazy expensive). Ideally, I’d love to just send American money in the mail, but I have a funny feeling this is illegal. I hope I’m allowed to talk about this on here. My understanding of the situation is that you’re allowed to give it to me if I pay for your expenses, but NOT if you make a profit off it. Is this correct?
In any case, I’d like to know what versions of the O-OT are out there, and the essential differences between each version. So, if you’re willing to help me out, either PM me or reply to this thread. Thanks to anyone who is willing to help me!
PS. I am actually really really desperate. The best version I have is the 1997 SE on VHS. I’ve got the 2004 DVD, but I hate it. The only part I like is the Bonus Materials where GL talks about all the stuff that made the OT so brilliant that he apparently forgot about when he was making the PT.
PSS. It might be worth noting that I am getting unlimited downloads in around a week. Is there any way to download these instead? if so, how do you do it and with what program?

Already I don't like it.
I like the amount of thought that's gone into it, but right off the bat:
Changing Owen so he's in a better decision to say 'Anakin should've stayed here and not gotten involved...' or whatever.
First of all - he never actually says it, this is just Obi-Wan mouthing off.
Second - this is quite clearly an opinion formed in hindsight. It's been twenty years, and Owen thinks to himself "well I think Anakin should've stayed here (when he was 9) and not gotten involved (by leaving the planet, becoming a Jedi... whatever).
It is simply unecessary to change that aspect of the story, it already works fine. If I were you I'd worry about the bigger holes. Like eh, well... like me! I've been told I'm a 'hole' of some sort on this forum. Bwahhaah.
To begin with, I have Anakin leaving Tatooine when he's about 15 or older, to avoid having to waste a whole episode on nothing. The main reason I did that was not so much for Owen to say those things, but for Obi-wan to become acquainted with Owen. If Obi-wan had never met Owen, AND if Owen wasn't a friend of Anakin's, then why would Obi-wan choose to give Luke to him and his wife later on?
a) He wouldn't even know him
b) Owen wouldn't know that Obi-wan was the 'cause' of Anakin's demise, and thus, resent him later for it
c) Owen wouldn't care or know about Anakin's demise full-stop
d) Owen wouldn't know anything about Luke's father, let alone Luke's own surname
e) Owen probably wouldn't even agree to look after Luke (why else would Owen accept the child from someone he resents if he wasn't duty-bound to do so for his friend?)
I have got to say, the Owen/Obi-wan problem has been the biggest one I've encountered in writing these. But mark my words, a lot of thought, and endless polemics have taken place to ensure that this all make sense, and I still believe that it stands.

I don't want to hate him, but he is slowly but surely killing Luke with his changes to the OT, and that is worse than merely creating an abomination. To journey from genius to mediocrity is disappointing and sad, but to pervert genius is truly twisted indeed.
I am torn - bashing George Lucas and the Prequel Trilogy is relieving, but I have this vain hope that George may happen upon this site one day and all of a sudden change his mind. Hey...the Original-Original Trilogy WAS better...I should release it again! And that makes me think I should go easy. 'Sif it'll happen.
Then again, he's surrounded by 'yes-men' anyway.
Probably not the response you were expecting, and I was a bit Wagnerian in my delivery, but oh well...

I can't believe all this! I've noticed that most people who are in favor of this change defend it by saying that it's okay for this but not the original trilogy because the prequel trilogy sucks, and the original trilogy doesn't. Therefore, any change to the prequels are good. I thought this was partly out of film preservation. I think the prequels suck too, but I still think they should be preserved exactly the way they were in theatres, something that George has already seen to keep from happening. But the future of a film's survival shouldn't be dependent on such arbitrary reasons of whether or not it "sucks." I think it gives us less credibility than we already have to be whining to George, "Don't change the Star Wars trilogy! Give us back the originals!" only to turn around and say, "Yes! Thanks for changing Yoda in Episode I! Good job!" It just doesn't make any sense.
I can see where you're coming from, but on the other hand, I think you're wrong.
1) Why would anyone want to preserve a film that sucks? I wish Episode I was never created, and so from that standpoint, I don't believe that it needs to be preserved.
2) The main reason I (and probably a fair few other people on here) want to see the Original-Original Trilogy preserved on DVD is because it doesn't contain changes that ruin the storyline or change the meaning of some scenes. Other changes are ridiculous and out-of-place, while others have been made to make it more consistent with the PT, when it clearly should have been the other way around.
3) In this instance, a CG Yoda has been implemented instead of the puppet Yoda, to make it look more like the Yoda seen in ESB and ROTJ. To my mind, the more consistent the Prequel Trilogy is with the Original Trilogy, the better. It is from this standpoint that I support the change.
4) As far as I'm concerned, it is the same mind that made ridiculous and horrendous changes to the Original Trilogy that conceived the Prequel Trilogy. I recall an appropriation of Obi-wan: "A storyteller by the name of George Lucas, who was a pupil of mine before he turned to evil, helped ILM hunt down and destroy the Star Wars Saga."
You will probably disagree with me, if you're coming at it from the angle of historeography, but the fact remains, it *SHOULD* be possible for us to have our cake and eat it too. There are so many Star Wars fans with so many different opinions on the two trilogies, that it would be financially viable to release every version of Star Wars on DVD since its theatrical release. That, is something that I think we can all agree on.

Anyway, the episode I refer to is about 'The Melty Man', which is a codename for the anxieties, fears, and negative thoughts that cause men to have erection problems. Anyway, when one of the characters recalls the legend of the Melty Man, he is asked to describe him. He describes him as 'Darth Vader, without the helmet'.
In a later scene, another character, who was warned about the Melty Man, but didn't believe in him, has an encounter with the Melty Man in the bathroom, just before he is about to 'perform'. It went something like this:
"You don't know what happened to your erection."
"I know enough. Jeff told me you killed my erection."
"No! I am your erection!"
"Noooooooooo! That's not true, that's impossible!"
"Search your feelings, you know it be true!"
You guys have to see it. It's bloody funny.

But how about Ben Affleck and J-Lo in 'Gigli'?
The last scene went something like this:
BEN: It's turkey time!
J-LO: Gobble! Gobble!
