Romances AS bad or worse than Episode II's?

Tony: What is this?
The Blonde: Corn.
Tony: Corn? Corn comes in a little white box from Birdseye. Corn? Kansas is corny! Can ya eat it?
The Blonde: Yeah.
Tony: Can ya smoke it? Can ya drink it? Can ya lie in it?
The Blonde: Sure.
Tony: Then lie in it with me.
The Blonde: Are you crazy?
Tony: Yeah, I'm crazy. I'm crazy in love with your blue eyes... and your corn-silked hair. Your corn-silked hair. I'll never eat corn again without thinking' about you. Canned corn, candy corn, popcorn, Crackerjacks! You're the prize in my box! And my box is this country. It's all tinfoil on the outside. Corn and sweetness on the inside.

Having watched American Pop, I can honestly say that was one of the worst bits of dialogue I've ever heard. And the way the actor doing Tony's voice delivers his lines, he makes it sound even worse than it looks in text. This really rivals the "I hate sand" moment in Episode II.

It's sounds funny if you read it in a stupid comedian kinda way.

Can you imagine Han fighting Luke, that is what the duel in ROTS should have felt like.

In the PT, I think he felt the same way. I will make something good, but I am not going the extra mile to make it great, because in the end Star Wars is going to make a boat load of money.

Now this is my opinion, but definitely Lucas hasn't had the hunger to make a great Star Wars film in 25 years, oh well.

Along with all the other stuff I contend with regards to the PT, I honestly believe that if GL had a LOT less money to play with, then it would likely have been awesome. When someone is given parameters and limitations and they strive to create something great, they squander all the creative possibilities within those limitations.

Yeah, when I found out that they were filming a great deal of it in Australia, I wanted to be Anakin in II and III. I was the right age for it, and I have Luke-ish hair, blue eyes, yada yada yada.

How tall are you, Red Baron?

Ummm...I think I'm 177 centimetres. I don't know how that works out in Imperial...maybe 5' 12'?

THE VIDEO ALWAYS BRINGS A TEAR TO MY EYE. NOT ONLY ABOUT OUR COLLECTIVE LOSS OF KURT, BUT BECAUSE ONE OF MY FRIENDS WHO WAS ALSO THE LEAD SINGER OF A BAND THAT WAS REALLY STARTING TO GO PLACES KILLED HIMSELF THREE DAYS AFTER KURT'S DEATH.

I wonder how many of these copycat suicides went on?

I have *kind of* mixed feelings about the film after having seen it. There's a lot to develop there, and I think they started developing a lot of different characters at different points in the film, but then I felt as though they got somewhere and then just dropped it and started developing something else. Sort of like a dog that digs random holes all over the back yard and doesn't get to China. I don't feel as though I cared enough for the death of crucial crew members (whereas, if I had seen the TV series, I probably would have cared a lot). I really respect the uncompromising approach to the movie, though, in that it wasn't trying to hang onto every main character.

And on the flipside: I thought the characterisations and dialogue were REALLY, REALLY good. Very funny at a lot of points. And the main characters seemed 3-dimensional and cool. Could definitely see a lot of Han Solo there...

I'll likely watch it another time.

Yeah, I've gotta admit, in the NRL in Australia (National Rugby League), every call used to come down to the referee or the linesmen. Nowadays, we have video referees as well, and for almost every try (Americans read: 'touchdown'), they defer the call to the video referee. In particular, this occurs in important games like the State of Origin (which is considered by many to be the ultimate competition in Rugby League) or the Grand Final. It's been abused to the point where referees who don't want to be responsible for a big/tough call can defer the call to a nameless man behind a screen, who doesn't have to take any responsibility for the accuracy or inaccuracy of his call.

I sorta prefer the 80s thrash metal scene, back when metal was more than just down-tuned guitars and death growls. Bands like Metallica, Slayer, Venom, and Megadeth were just as revolutionary as the grunge bands, in my opinion.

An interesting fact: Grunge, and more specifically Nirvana, was responsible for the downfall of old-school metal. No hard feelings though.........the hair bands had to go.

That's kind of a double-edged sword for me, because my favourite band full-stop is probably Led Zeppelin, and IMHO they started the whole metal/hard rock scene. I'm also a big fan of Metallica and Dream Theatre...

So if this is the case, well, I don't know! They're both pretty dead nowadays aren't they? I call for a resurgence of grunge and old-school metal (minus the hair)!

honestly, i think that was probably one of the best scenes in the PT, because Lucas finally gave homage to a movie great.

I'm sure there are cleverer ways of doing this. He paid homage to Kurosawa countless times in the OT. The difference is he didn't smash us in the face with his homage.
