Back on topic, anybody here want to comment on the handheld console war? It seems the PSP is faltering big time. Most of it's games are just watered down versions of console hits with weaker graphics and controls. The DS offers something unique--Age of Empires, Advance Wars Dual STrike, the Feel the Magic games.

And of course there's Mario Kart DS, which is like the ULTIMATE Mario Kart game, and is portable to boot.

The reason i'm recomending it isnt for the dirty stuff the story is beutiful. Just it was in the wrong category so hardly anyone plays it outside of japan.

As far as I'm concerned, that should always have been the case. It seems that it's taken a handheld to realise that Nintendo are inventive and Sony are not (and this is coming from a Sega fan).

Pretty much all announcements on the Revolution including system, name, specs, etc. will be made at E3. So, whenever that is, presumably we'll also find out about the launch date.

I think the Revolution is going to be a winner for me, too. To be honest, the 360 and PS3 don't interest me at all at this stage - they're pretty much the previous systems with hardware face-lifts. The Revolution actually looks like it's going to provide a new gaming experience...

Why I hate "The Incredibles"
Time
Wasn't it all a reference to the Infinite Crisis, when DC Comics 'cleaned house'?

And again Ingo, your posts make zero sense if you don't actually tell us what it is that messed with your head...but besides that, I fail to see how Pixar could have envisioned such a negative reaction to their film, a) because it does not seem to be a universal reaction and b) seems to be related to something specific to a negative childhood experience of yours.

BTW, I thought it was a very clever stab at the litigation age we have entered to have citizens suing superheroes left, right, and centre! It's not too far from the truth, either - if I saved someone's life giving them CPR, and I broke one of their ribs in the process, they could probably sue me.

I think what Jay is trying to say is that he originally envisioned having 9 children, but then decided to call it quits after three (two of which will turn out rather nicely but the youngest can be kind of goofy), then 5 years or so later he'll go back and decide to have three more but those will turn out to be right rat bastards. Then he'll decide that his first three kids all need extreme make-overs and that they never really existed prior to their plastic surgeries and he'll also deny that he ever wanted to have nine kids and blame us at the OT.Com for making up such a ridiculous story.

Wait, what were we talking about again?

LOL, Jay's original vision changed...

Sure, Moonraker was kinda dodgy, but I guess that was part of its charm for me...As for OHMSS, I think I lost my patience with it and fell asleep. But as I said, I haven't seen every single one of them, so I'm not exactly the most qualified for the task of determining the best and worst of Bond.

I must say, though, fellas, one thing I really enjoyed about Die Another Day was the beginning when he was imprisoned. That made Bond less of a caricature for me, and it was gritty and cool to see him weather the storm and then escape. If only it had something to do with the rest of the plot - that movie was over for me as soon as it hit the ice...INVISIBLE CAR?! WTF?!

Can someone on here list all the Bond movies? I noticed someone went to the trouble of listing all the Bond girls - I wouldn't mind seeing which ones I've missed.

Understanding the saga - A perspective from T.F.N
Time
I think the OT is infinitely better than the PT, because Lucas knew what Star Wars was all about when the OT was made. The OT was about fulfilling his duty as a storyteller, to reframe the myths and legends that mankind has been telling since the dawn of history as a heroic science fantasy. He was the finest student of Joseph Campbell in his hey-day, but I have to say he has lost his way from *at least* '97 onwards. Campbell would be disappointed in Lucas if he was around to see the PT, because the PT only shares surface references to iconic myths and legends. For instance 'Padme' means 'lotus' in ancient Chinese - there was a saying that 'the jewel is in the lotus' - meaning (to simplify it) that "the truth is in the world". In the OT, Lucas would have sought to illustrate the ideal of the proverb itself rather than simply naming a character after a word in the proverb, and then having her hold a massive glowing jewel at the end of TPM, not to illuminate any meaning whatsoever, but to carbon-copy 'manifest' a proverb in a bunch of on-screen actions...don't know if any of that made sense to you guys, but basically, Lucas couldn't see the forest from the trees. He was too busy drawing pretty little trees instead of looking at the whole forest of myth and legend and manifesting it in a new trilogy of sci-fi stories...

Oh, and I'm 21 and my opinion counts.

Yeah, I'm not a HUGE Bond fanatic, because sometimes his womanising just pisses me off - like in Die Another Day, when he turns that ice-queen feminist into his bitch. I guess I didn't understand how they could be attracted to him until now.

But, without further adieu, here's my take on Bond:

Favourite Bond: Roger Moore
Favourite Bond Movie: Live and Let Die (with Thunderball a close second)
Worst Bond Movie: The World is Not Enough

Live and Let Die was the first Bond film I ever saw, so that may be why it's my favourite Bond film (and it may also be why Moore is my favourite Bond. It also has my favourite Bond song. I'm almost certain I haven't seen them all, though...

I tend to agree with you, man. I think AWK's had his run of whipping - sure, he's probably done some crap to deserve it at times, but nowadays he seems to come out with some relatively good things to say. I can see marioxb becoming the new whipping-boy, because he's just coming on here and stirring up shit. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but he's kinda pissing me off so I could go either way on it.

Peace to all the people with opinions that voice them well and don't descend into shit-stirring and pissing contests.

Update on the TV show, an now Lucas is getting involved!
Time
I just hope they develop some good characters that are already there, instead of creating a whole plethora of new ones to confuse the issue. Problem is, they killed off the most well-known Jedi in that purge. Maybe Quinlan Vos?

I just had a funny thought that even though we can be such bitches about everything Star Wars other than the Classic Trilogy (I'm sick of calling it the OOT, sounds like a compromise), it's really only because we love Star Wars so much. We do WANT it to be good. That's why we're such harsh critics when it doesn't live up to the Star Wars name; we don't want it to be tarnished. Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back are some of the greatest films in the history of cinema - but it could have been THE greatest film series ever if only everything went to plan...

More to the point - I wouldn't say "power to them" if anyone but the entire band The Beatles decided to change one of their own songs - which is not possible these days.

Whoever said that 'Let It Be' was meant to be stripped down originally was correct, but they gave it to Phil Spector because they thought it sounded like shit, to be frank. So for Paul McCartney to come back and say "this is the way it was originally intended" (while correct) and release it, is kind of misleading given that George and John are dead. This circumstance is slightly different, though, because we do know that it was meant to be stripped down to begin with.

Back to the point - I wouldn't say "power to Lucas" now that he's changed the OT on the basis that he owns the films, because he didn't single-handedly make the films. Perhaps if Kurtz, Kasdan, Kershner (or the relevant director for each film), AND Lucas all agreed to go back and change the films, it would have my blessing. It isn't all Lucas' art - he collaborated. He directed ANH, sure, but aside from that, he wrote the STORY. And that is a very loose thing. I could write ten pages full of ideas and that could be the story for a movie (in fact, I'm doing it right now!). Aside from that, it's safe to assume that George sat down with other people like Kasdan, and worked through ideas, some of which would have been rejected because they were probably crap (which, as you can see, probably isn't what happened with the prequels) and Kasdan (among other, like Leigh Brackett) wrote the SCREENPLAY. I don't know if any of you have ever written a screenplay, but it is a LONG and arduous task! It is one of the bigger jobs, along with directing, and cinematography, editing, etc.

If, however, Lucas wished to change the prequels, which he directed and wrote the SCREENPLAYS for, I would say "power to him". I hate the prequels as they are anyway, so who cares? But that's not the point. The point is, Lucas may own Star Wars (and let me remind you that the Louvre owns artworks such as the Mona Lisa, and wouldn't DARE change them), but he did not create the OT single-handedly despite the way he talks in featurettes, and therefore it is not entirely his 'artwork' so to speak. So while the fact that he owns it may allow him legally to change whatever he wants about the OT, I do not believe that he has the right to. I do, however, believe he has the right to change the PT, as he owns, directed, and wrote the screenplays for them.

OK, but movies are meant to be FUN! And to a lot of us, the prequels are. My girlfriend only saw them in Lucas' intended order and loved them. Well she's in love with Hayden and calls me Anakin and has me call her Padme sometimes, but that's beside the point. I know he did have some backstory planned, and if wasn't exactly the same as what we saw, so what? He knows this and he enjoys his own movies, so why can't we?

Look, the prequels were already made. We can't change that. Same with the OT. I guess Lucas could have digitally changed Hayden's (and Jake Lloyd's) eye color to be the same as Sebastion Shaw's, but wouldn't that be a lot more work than changing something that's only on screen for two seconds? Now Yoda in TPM NEEDS to be changed. So there's a PT change to accomidate the OT, it does work both ways.

You gotta admit the changes to the OT to fit the PT are all very minor and are only on the screen for no more than 5 minutes tops. (even if you add up all the changes together it won't total more than five minutes (Krayt dragon call, Boba Fett's 3 lines, Emperor scene in ESB/ unmasking/ ghost/ Naboo and Jedi Temple in celebration). Am I missing anything? The other changes had nothing to do with the PT.

What would you have done differently? Obviously since at least 1980 there were plans to someday make 1-3. How would YOUR episodes 1-3 have gone down?

Lucas' intended order? Man, that's twisted. I can shut that notion down in one sentence. If it was Lucas' intended order, he would have made the films in that order. Case closed.

I see what you're saying with regards to the changes working both ways, though, but here's the argument from 'our' side. The PT, having come after the OT, should have been based heavily upon the OT. That means that if Lucas used Shaw to play Anakin in Return of the Jedi, he should have picked actors that looked at least vaguely like him (I though Lake Lloyd, did, but his performance did suck whether it was his fault or not), and if not, used things like contact lenses and hair colouring to get things accurate. Now, I personally (and I'm sure I can speak for a lot of people on this forum) LOVE the OT films just the way they were, so why should I have to sacrifice the integrity of my favourite films because George Lucas can't be bothered to give PT actors contact lenses? Or, moreover, why can't we have the OT films that we loved on an officially released DVD at least alongside the version with the changes, if not on its own? The answer is basically because George Lucas was too careless in his handling of the PT (and I'm talking about more than just eye colour here), is covering his tracks by making changes to these films that we loved as they were, and so now the errors made in creating the PT have compounded to affect the OT films which we loved in their original form. So, above and beyond anything else, it is the frustration that the classic OT films should suffer needlessly because a) Lucas was too careless in his treatment of the prequels, and b) he insists on remedying these mistakes through changing things other than the mistakes themselves, all in the name of 'original vision'. Eye colour was merely an example here, but can you see the argument? I'm not asking you to agree, necessarily, just understand...

P.S. I rewrote (and I mean, pretty much, from scratch) the screenplays to Episodes I and II and put them up here, and I am in the process of rewriting Episode III, which I will finish when I return from the US. So, I am not a 'hater' (hate that term) that just sits there and complains and points fingers, I've actually taken action to demonstrate that things can be different, and, in my opinion, better.
