Don't worry, I've finished it now. Turns out this 'Superman' I was talking about (actually 'The Last Son of Krypton') wasn't 'different' in *that* way (i.e. his powers weren't energy-based, they just needed to be recharged).

Good to have that straightened out.

You have no idea what I'm talking about, do you?

LOL.

Yeah, I was a never a fan of the decision to make Yoda CG. And it got even worse when the DVD came out, and the people on the commentary gushed how great he was every time he appeared on screen. It was so irritating.

And, THX, even though I've said it before here, it's still a little bit embarrassing, but I didn't think that Sidious and Palpatine were the same person until long after Attack of the Clones. It's not as bad as it sounds. I mean, I knew Palpatine became the Emperor (duh!). I simply thought it was far too obvious to have this black-cloaked guy be him too. I thought that Lucas was either trying to fool the audience with this lookalike Sith or, storyline-wise, was supposed to be Palpatine's master, explaining why Palpatine would go for a similar look once he came to power. To this day, I feel that I gave him too much credit.

I did have my suspicions as well. I was thinking 'as far as I know Palpatine is Darth Sidious for sure, but wouldn't it be a great plot twist if he wasn't?'. I think I pretty much quelled those suspicions after TPM, though, once I realised that both of the prequels were so crap that Lucas wouldn't even have thought of it.

Well, the so-called r is a sound in between the English r and l, so it's neither really. I never expected Nintendo to stick with Revolution. It was a working name, like its past two systems have had. Remember Project Reality and Project Dophin? Or should I say Nintendo 64 and GameCube?

And, sean, I love your sig pic so so much! Where did you get it?! Point me in the direction!

Yeah, Gaff's right about the 'r' sound, it is halfway, but in standard romaji (Japanese written phoenetically in English), the sound described is written as 'r'. I honestly don't think the Japanese would have that much of a problem pronouncing it at all, especially if they can pronounce 'megadoraibu', 'pureesuteeshan', 'doriimucasto', etc. etc. And knowing them, they'd probably end up coining their own abbreviation too - something like 'rebo'.

I thought the name Nintendo 64 was so dumb when it came out (I thought the machine was dumb, ugly, and poorly designed too, but that's another matter), especially seeing as it was no longer all about the BIT anymore - in point of fact, it was all about the polygons...stupid polygons. With the piles of crap that came out in those days, I reckon they should have stuck with perfecting 2D instead of experimenting with 3D commercially and in public. Fighting games come to mind particularly. But I digress, I thought it was cool how everyone just started calling it 'the 64' (or in Japan, they often called it 'rokujuuon' - a shortened version of 'roku-juu-yon'). Anyway, I thought that ultimately the 'GameCube' was a good name for a console. 'Wii'? Well, from a marketing standpoint it's probably a good idea - the two eyes could become a picture of two people in the logo or ad or something.

Reality is, it can't BE pronounced.
The closest a japanese person can get to it would be 'Lebolrution'.

There is no "L" sound in Japanese.

It would actually sound more like 'reboryuushan'. If any of you guys have the right encoding, I can even spell it out for you.

***BACK ON TOPIC - AGAIN ***

Well, at least onto Superman. I have a question. Is the much-maligned Electric Blue Superman introduced in the Return of Superman TPB? I'm reading it at the moment, and it features a being who comes into the world in energy form, and enters the corpse of Superman, whose powers are somehow "different...changed". He wears a visor, and a suit with a blue stripe in the centre and two black stripes down the sides. And when he leaves the Fortress of Solitude, he dons the red cape and Superman 'S' Shield.

Is this the guy? And if he is, please don't tell me whether or not he's the real Superman...the excitement is killing me, but I love it.

I don't think you understand what I meant. I was joking, but I said that I hate it when forum threads get used as Instant Message windows...with my tongue stuck out so it doesn't sound too mean ( see?).

Entertainment Weekly's Must See Movies

So, I stop by glennbeck.com and look through his page of news articles when I see "Top 10 Anticipated Films for Summer".

10. Clerks 2
9. Cars
8. The Devil Wears Prada
7. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
6. Little Miss Sunshine
5. The Break-Up
4. X-Men: The Last Stand
3. Snakes on a Plane
2. Superman Returns
1. The DaVinci Code

Looking through this list, I see 1 movie I have only a passing interest in seeing (X-Men), 4 movies I knew were coming out, 1 movie I thought was coming next year, 1 movie that I would have sworn was just a joke (Snakes on a Plane), 4 movies I never heard of and 10 movies I wouldn't shell out money to see even if I got my money back after the movie was over.

Anyone else feel about the same?

I want Clerks 2, Pirates 2 and Superman Returns to be good. Whether they're good or not remains to be seen, but chances are, I will risk them to find out. Snakes on a Plane intrigues me - I honestly want to see whether it is a joke or not.

You guys are right, of course, but if it's one thing I've learned about dating: you can stand there and beat your fists at the wind; laugh in the face of destiny, whatever - but all it will accomplish is you being right, and more importantly, dateless. Sure, it sucks that people play games, but it's the way things are, and I think you'll find that people play them *at first* to avoid getting hurt, until a sufficient amount of trust and familiarity wears it down. So, you can either dig your heels in, refuse to play, and get short-changed, or you can roll with it, and perhaps even enjoy it. Maybe you'll find someone else who doesn't like to play these games, and good luck to you, but it might also be like finding a needle in a haystack...

[EDIT] Whoever made these great pics musta forgotten that Lucas has been divorced for quite some time now.
Those are hilarious, and I think the guy knows perfectly well that Lucas is divorced - who needs a wife when you can digitally create one?

Hence the green screen.

I thought your rant was great, and it resonated even with me as a Christian. I have read a lot about the history and creed of Scientology, and I too find it extremely difficult to believe that people could zealously believe in this religion, or even that it became a religion at all. I do, however, understand how it could resonate with people in Hollywood (like Cruise) with stories like people being brainwashed in front of giant screens, etc...

Perhaps someone could make a cool Sci-Fi movie out of the proposed 'Origin of Humanity' according to Scientology. It's disturbing to read as a set of beliefs, but nonetheless riveting to read as a story...
