And then I'll do the same thing for the 6 other pieces of shit Walden Media is making.

Then finally we'll all be able to understand why ANYTHING offends you so much.

The PS3 looks awesome, no doubt. The games will be great. But first off, 600 dollars is freaking ridiculous. Few can afford that much.

And games don't cost 70 dollars. The last generation of consoles (PS2, XBox, Gamecube) all cost 50 dollars. 70 may only be twenty dollars more, but that twenty starts adding up as you buy more games. Buy two games, that's another forty. We're not all made of cash.

Also, they keep delaying it. The choice to use blu-ray discs was stupid. It seems like its never going to come out.

And I've always preferred Nintendo. Cheap, dependable products. The Wii looks awesome, and I'm much more excited about it than the PS3. The back catalogue of old games is a great feature. And its an innovative console, what with the new stlye of playing. The PS3 is not innovative. Nor is the Xbox 360. They have better graphics. Big whoop. You can see blood and guts in shooting games more clearly. So what? Nintendo keeps innovating the game medium. I'm looking forward to the Wii.

Though I've never been into consoles all that much. I prefer handhelds. They're cheap, the games are cheap, they're fun and you can take them anywhere. The Nintendo DS is one of my favorite systems of all time. An innovative way to play with good graphics and truly fun, uncomplicated games.

In short, the PS3 looks good, but I'm getting fed up with it. They keep upping the prices and delaying the system. I cast my vote for the Wii, and will ay it one more time, HANDHELDS FOREVER!!!

I think your opinions are highly representative of a majority of the gaming community - I think handhelds are on the rise, and are becoming serious software-sellers. That's why Microsoft's looking to get their piece of the pie...

I mean, was there really that much anticipation to see this film, or were people going to the theater because they didn't really have anything else to do (and other than SR there wasn't anything worth while playing in the theater)?

I mean, I saw the first movie but I wasn't all that impressed. I was at a sleep over with a friend 2 years ago when I saw it, but there you go. And this movie just seems to be raking in the fans but again...I must just not be into pirate movies or Johnny Depp. Same thing with Lord of the Rings. I saw the movies in the theater but that was it. I don't own the DVDs nor do I really care about Orlando Bloom.

Pirates and Wizards. Whatever.

a) Pirates are cool
b) A good pirate film hasn't come out in decades
c) It intermixed horror themes
d) It was Orlando Bloom's next film after Lord of the Rings (and I think people wanted to see if he could pull it off outside of Legolas)
e) It had Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom for the womens, and Keira "hotness" Knightley for the lads
f) Johnny Depp's characterisation of Jack Sparrow was outrageously funny and larger than life
g) Geoffrey Rush is a brilliant character actor as well
h) the first movie was just a plain good film
i) Nostalgia related to the old Disneyland ride of the same name (which I thought was crap, but the kids probably loved it so anyone who rode it as a child would still have fond memories of it)

Now, I'm not saying you have to agree with all these points, but it should be easy to understand why it did so well and spawned a few sequels.

You can get Sandman at your local LIBRARY?!

Damn, I'm jealous of you. No comics or even 'graphic novels' in sight at mine...

Most larger libraries will let you pay a small fee ($10 or so) and get a visitor's card. The trick then would be finding one that's not too far away that has what you want. It's worth a shot, even just calling around and asking them. And it's also a great way to figure out if you really want to buy the books later or not. A good example would be the Charles Schultz Complete Peanuts that Fantagraphics is putting out; definitely nice books, but not something I can afford right now, thus a perfect choice for checking out of the library and seeing first hand if they're good wish-list candidates.

Still jealous. I live in Australia, and while I can find practically whatever I want at the comic shop - Peanuts, Garfield, Asterix, Tin Tin, The Far Side, or *maybe* Superman is about where the library ends for comics around here...and I read all those in high school!

1) I'm afraid they'll update or "modernize" his costume, which is purposefully meant to evoke the image of the American flag, by making the red aspects (gloves, boots, stripes) maroon or burgundy like they did to the Superman costume in SR so that Cap will look "darker and more mysterious" even though he's not meant to be a dark/mysterious character.

2) I'm afraid that the film just won't do well at the box office regardless of how well written, acted, directed and marketed it is because Cap stands for Truth, Justice, & The American Way, the last one which will make it difficult to market him to the global market and will just turn off cynical audiences who don't care about being patriotic or loving their country or whatever.

And now for something completely different - does anyone else here think it's really stupid to put Wonder Woman back in the Invisible Jet for the new movie that Joss Whedon's supposed to be making for her? (forgive me if I ranted about this a few pages ago; my memory's been shot lately)

Not necessarily people who don't care about being patriotic as far as the global market is concerned, more just people who aren't patriotic about a country they don't live in. I have to say, while I do know a fair bit about Captain America and he is fairly well-known amongst my nerdier peers, he would hardly rank at all in the popularity stakes as far as comic book sales/character prestige is concerned. As I understand, Captain America isn't far below the popularity of say Batman or Spiderman in the US.

An exact quote from Lucas on Greedo shooting first.
Time
I do think his recent (well, comparatively recent) adoption of Buddhism has affected the latest incarnations (no pun intended) of Star Wars. Think about all of Yoda's advice to Anakin, about not grieving for your loved ones, steering clear of all emotions/feelings, etc. Make no mistake, I think he drew upon many aspects of many religions in his original conception of the Force, including Buddhism, and that Yoda was intended as a Buddha-like figure right from the get-go, but in the prequels, the 'Jedi Code' and the concept of the Force runs counter to some of the things in the OT.

But is he a Buddhist? I'm not so sure myself these days. His 'midichlorian' explanation of the Force tends to de-mystify it and seeks to give it some kind of scientific basis...

Perhaps more correctly, Lucas' place in life has affected Star Wars. There is, as people have mentioned, Greedo shooting first/at the same time. The Jedi are forbidden to marry (Lucas divorced between ESB and ROTJ). The main characters are no longer ordinary people thrown into extraordinary events; they are people destined to power. Lucas was once an ambitious young director; a small fish in a big pond; a rags to riches story, but perhaps now he believes that he was always destined for greatness...

I LOVED the first movie, and I really liked this one too, in an entirely ESB kinda way. I loved and hated how everything was left up in the air, and I felt as though the Black Pearl had really become something like the Millenium Falcon (and Sparrow, Solo). I too was smiling pretty much all the way through this film. It was a fun film with a lot of heart - perhaps not as much dialogue for Sparrow as I would've liked - but great action and great laughs. I liked what they did with Norrington as well; I've really warmed up to him. But I do think that perhaps they tried to develop too many minor characters at the expense of fleshing out the mains.

AND I DIDN'T STAY BACK AFTER THE CREDITS DAMMIT!!! NOW I'LL HAVE TO GO SEE IT AGAIN!

Does anybody want to tell me what happens? Even PM me about it if you're worried about spoilers?

Luckily, this world cup was Sven's swansong as England manager, and we began speculating on who would replace him, which raised a question that has bugged me ever since Sven was hired: Should a national team be allowed a foreign manager/coach? Personally I think the answer is NO. The coach should have the same nationality restrictions as the players. What do you guys think?

I dunno, I think Australia would've been doomed never to even enter another World Cup if it wasn't for coaches like Guus Hiddick. I like to call him "the Golden Guus". We all love him over here.

There is a massive difference between a challenge and a frustration. Is Half-Life no challenge at all? Sure, it wasn't the hardest game in the world, but it was still a challenge and you could save anywhere you wanted. This applies to pretty much any game. No matter where you save it, a game is not truly difficult unless you have to use your skills to beat it. Save points are a crutch - for developers who can't or can't be bothered to develop effective AI or to come up with interesting puzzles or obstacles. If I save my game just before I am attacked by a dinosaur, I still have to kill the dinosaur to progress through the game. And I should have to use my skills at the game to defeat it - in which case saving the game would have absolutely nothing to do with it. If I save my game in the middle of trying to work out a puzzle in an adventure game, it doesn't bring me any closer to working it out - I *still* have to use my head.

Calling all Batman fans: to Strike Again or not to Strike Again?
Time
Ever since I dived headfirst into comics, Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Strikes Again has sat on the shelf of the comic store, mocking me and beckoning me with evil whispers. I get so many mixed messages from those who have read it, particularly from the critics. IS THIS BOOK GOOD OR NOT? Do the people who reject it understand it? What's so horrible about it that gets comic fans up in arms about it?! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!

My decision whether or not to purchase this graphic novel basically hinges on the results of this poll...reasons for your answers are more than welcome...

We have video referees in Rugby League in Australia as well, and for the most part, it works really well. And to be honest, the only bad decisions I've seen in the last say, 5 years have really been from on-field referees being too stubborn to defer their call. And they do cop criticism when they defer to the video ref too many times, because it usually means they're not following the game well enough...
