Borat Movie

In my country there is problem, and that problem is the J--

I can't wait for this film to come out. And you're right, the joke is on everyone when it comes to the good ol' U.S. of A. I suspect that is why Sacha decided to move away from the UK - everyone was so familiar with him that they took it too well! He really is a cunning linguist, taking on all these dialects and commanding them so convincingly.

How the prequels should’ve played out:
Time
I totally disagree with the assertion that Anakin or the Skywalkers have to be completely disassociated from the planet Tatooine in a logical PT. In fact, I argue the opposite, and this is coming from someone who has re-written whole screenplays to EPI and II (III seems to be a perpetual work-in-progress). Why I disagree is that I tried every method I could to keep Anakin away from Tatooine and it simply couldn't be done!

The reason is this: Uncle Owen lives on Tatooine as if he has lived there his whole life. In the OT, Owen talks as though he tried to convince Anakin not to leave with Obi-wan on his "damn fool idealistic crusade". Anakin has to be either Owen's blood-brother, step-brother or half-brother for him to be referred to as 'Uncle' by Luke. The only other way is for Owen to simply be a surrogate Uncle, but in any case, he still knew Anakin personally, and possibly even maintained a close friendship with him. An interplanetary relationship on any of these levels is simply not possible for a moisture farmer on Tatooine, so for him to know any of the things he recalled in the OT without Anakin having lived there would be nothing short of amazing.

What I ended up doing with my EPI was to make Anakin a starship mechanic on Tatooine who was friends with Owen Lars. Owen would try to convince Anakin not to leave after Obi-wan finds him and offers to train him; and when Anakin 'dies', Obi-wan brings Luke back to Owen and Beru to care for him as surrogate Uncle and Aunt (sort of like a last duty to a friend).

ROTS in the IMDb top 250!

I think that says it all, and I feel justified in my belief of how the masses look at the saga. SW & ESB are classics and being in the top 11 proves that. ROTJ is way down, cause it is an average/decent sequel, and ROTS is probably in there cause it ties to the OT so much.

I never go by the exact numbers in these polls & lists cause they are subjective, but I just look at where they rate compared to the other films, and it doesn't suprise me that only SW & ESB are the only SW movies that are considered great. On other SW sites, if I said that, I would be a basher.

True that, though perhaps I like ROTJ *a little* more than you do. I think it's a good movie, just not great like the other two.

The Alien Quadrilogy (That isn't a word, is it?)

You're right; of course plenty of people think it is actually a word after Fox marketing department made it up. The real word is tetralogy. Quadrilogy 'seems' right, but it is a mix of Greek and Latin; duology, trilogy and tetralogy being Greek, quadri being Latin. Of course it may end up being a real word if it remains in usage; 'television' is a similar Greek/Latin combination.

While just Googling some of that info I found this humorous quote:

Television? The word is half Greek, half Latin. No good can come of it.

SUPERMAN RETURNS REVIEW

With the number of perfectly good graphic novels for Superman ON HAND, it is beyond CRIMINAL that a great new original Superman film cannot be made.

Birthright, Superman for All Seasons, or even Red Son and Secret Identity should be almost ported directly over. Take the comic book scripts, let the writers co-direct and cast, and get on with it!

The George Lucas Syndrome.

Could be the name of a band that never settles on a final version for one of their songs....or never lives up to their earlier short burst of brillance.

I think I was in that band for exactly seven seconds.

I played electric triangle.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Trailer

Oh, and the Foot were actual human ninjas as well... not robots. I wonder if they'll go that route.

As a side note, do any Turtles fans know that the Turtles share their origin with Matt Murdoch... aka Daredevil?

In fact, I was just explaining the Daredevil/Turtles connection to my co-worker at work tonight - the connection is the ooze - the same stuff that made Murdoch blind made the Turtles big mutant turtles.

Help me come up with the next Pixar movie

This is a bit outta left field, but here I go:

The Great Wheel, or the Wheel of Life, whereby consciousnesses are distributed 'randomly' throughout the universe. This is based on Eastern Mysticism, but if you had some Eastern creatures with mixed-up consciousnesses, I think that could be really funny. Like somebody threw a stick in the spokes of the Wheel of Life, and a Panda Bear, a Dragon, a Fox, and an Elephant are incarnated with the personalities of creatures diametrically opposite in temperament. For instance, the Elephant is incarnated with the consciousness of a mouse; the Fox, a chicken; the Dragon, a small water lizard (?); and the Panda Bear, a salmon (!).

It was a long shot, but there you go...

A Cunning Ploy

I have a theory (which is really just a front for a half-baked opinion), and it is this:

Perhaps Lucasfilm seeks to weaken the OOT movement by dividing it into two camps - the people that will fork out for the OOT as a 'Bonus' extra (a.k.a. "settle for less"), and the people that demand perfection and nothing less (a.k.a. "the fussy cry-babies"). I don't mean to insult everybody by providing you with overwrought nicknames, I'm just trying to represent both sides of the argument. The perception of either group as I see it, is that the other group is sabotaging the movement, either by not showing support for the idea of the OOT in general (by not purchasing the September DVD set), or by giving in (thus demonstrating that OOT-ers will take whatever we are given/ buy whatever LFL throws at us).

I don't mean to polarise us here at OT.com, I was merely drawing attention to the idea of LFL's possible 'divide and conquer' tactic. I know we've already discussed the possible responses that LFL could have to sales (whether good or poor) of this next DVD set, but what will it mean for us?

What do you guys think, and what do you think we can do about it? Moreover, is it at all possible that we will have a unified front on this? What is our position?

Near the finalization of the add-on, which was called PSX for Play Station Experimental (hence the abbreviation for anybody who was wondering), Nintendo realized that Sony would gain a large degree of control despite their leading position in the video game market. Nintendo then went to Phillips and that's when the CD-i thing came out. The basically betrayed Sony in a business sense and Sony was thinking of halting their research but decided to make it a complete, stand alone console.

You can read the development of it here: PS Development but it doesn't mention anything about it being called PSX. I'm pretty sure that it was though, cause I read about that a while ago on a completely different site, and wikipedia doesn't necessarily have all the information proper.

-Shark2k

Yeah, I already knew about that, and so do most serious gamers - but the mainstream has absolutely no idea about this piece of history; in fact, I would wager that there are millions of PSX and PS2 owners who aren't clued in on this at all - so what I said still stands.

Yeah, I think a lot of people place too much faith in the 'Playstation' brand name to sell systems. To my reckoning, the original PSX came out of nowhere and was readily accepted by the mainstream after a vigorous worldwide advertising campaign. It can go the other way just as quickly: one need only look at the Megadrive and then its successors to know that a brand name is not enough. My beloved Sega probably thought that the Playstation was nothing to worry about in the early days, but after the 'failure' of the Saturn, it was near impossible to get up again.

If Sony lets up one iota, then they will lose their hold on the market.

SUPERMAN RETURNS REVIEW

I still think you'll be happy with the Donner Cut of Superman II when it comes out. There's a difference between camp and comic relief. Superman I mostly had comic relief (Otis and Lex pushed the envelope towards camp). The rest of the Reeve movies were chock full of camp, but that was due to Richard Lester's influence. I think the Donner Cut of II will get back towards less camp and more comic relief. At least, I hope.

I just finished watching III and IV for the first time in ages (IV was the first time since the '80s when it debuted on video) and I didn't remember just how wretched they are. The FX in IV are so positively miserable. I was toying with the idea of editing the two into one good movie, but I don't know if it's possible. I'd like a story that interweaves Lex & Nuclear Man with Clark's return to Smallville, the Lana angle, and the whole split personality thing (which I'd have caused by Nuclear Man's scratch). But between the bad FX and Nuclear Man's scene chewing, I just don't know if it's worth the effort. The goal would be to cut out the whole Gus Gorman plot and the whole Mariel Hemingway plot, if possible.

Funny how she can breathe in space.

Yeah, if you watch the docos on the I and II DVDs, they say that they were trying to move away from camp, and in fact, completely re-wrote a campy screenplay they had originally. If there were any elements of II that were camp (like Superman throwing the 'S' off his shirt), it was without Donner at the helm.
