Prediction for Star Wars X, XI, and XII
Time

Episode 9 should have addressed how to build a new society, not just a New New Republic, and how it would avoid the flaws of the Republic that led to the Empire and the First Order. But that’s a little bit off topic. What matters is that what comes next for the galaxy after Episode 9 - it should put an end to this particular conflict. They should have thought about how to prevent another fascist from taking power where their parents did not. Especially because the Last Jedi did address these issues, so it’s not like it’s an idea completely removed from the sequel trilogy.

I don’t want Star Wars to address anything political. It is a Space Opera where people have laser swords. It is escapist fantasy. The Prequels tried to have “ideas”, and these were just unwelcome and out of place in a popcorn blockbuster.

It’s very sad. This place isn’t what it used to be.

I was bored and went into some old threads. I found that this site seems to be in its third stage. Around the years 2008-2009 or so you had some original members (from 2003) complaining about how all the “old members” were gone and the place wasn’t the same. Many of them (Darthchaltab etc.) stopped posting around then, or a few years later (psychodavy). End of OT.com The Early Years.

Then TVs Frink and Duracell (among others) came along and the site (or at least the Off Topic and Film areas) was/were rejuvenated. OT.com The Next Generation

Then 10/18 happened - a whole bunch of active members got banned and other active members left in response. Then 12/20 happened - more active members (chainsawash etc.) got banned. End of The Next Generation (?)

It seems we are in the third stage of OT.com. So far it is a lot less fun.

Anywho, maybe remove the quote from Star Wars under The Cantina section of the site. This place does not get a little rough anymore.

Rogue One was probably better before the reshoots. The reshot ending was most likely conceived based on “rule of cool” and doesn’t really line up with ANH. I suspect the original ending was more consistent and thought out, only being changed at the last minute to make it “punchier.”

I’ll never understand why people think the ending is such a great segue into ANH. Like Leia is going to pretend that she’s on a mercy mission after fleeing from this intense battle? And then Vader, who seems intesnely focused during the climax of RO, just casually walks onto Tantive IV like he’s on a routine inspection.

Vader’s casual, unworried entrance is really well done. I just realized this now after watching these films hundreds of times.

The Opening Crawl of Star Wars always implied to me that that the Rebels had ambushed an Imperial Fleet and captured some of the vessels. While going through the databanks of one of the ships they found the Death Star plans.

Now Leia’s lie that she is on a “diplomatic mission” would be nonsensical if she and the Tantive were at the actual battle itself. The plans must have been transferred to her later on - perhaps on Coruscant, were she is a sitting member of The Senate. She then makes some excuse to go on a “mercy mission” to some planet in need of “foreign aid” (Tatooine). Imperial Security gets wind of this and The Emperor entrusts his most capable “agent” with the task of securing the data tapes.

Early History of the Galaxy:

25500 BBY:

With the invention of Hyperdrive Xim the Despot is able to expand his Slave Empire across the entire Core Worlds. He ruled from Cinnagar in the Deep Core.

A rebellion led by dissident groups in the main Human worlds of Correlia and Coruscant (and others) results in the destruction of Xims Empire.

Despite the destruction of Xims Empire, conflicts between various groups would continue to occur during expansion into the area of space that would become known as The Colonies.

Can we get some love for Yub Nub?

screams in the void said:

I prefer Yub Nub for a variety of reasons …it gives me the spine tingles that the special edition onwards do not . Part of that is the discordant sadness that underlies the music right after Luke sees the force ghosts and then it crescendos into a spirit uplifting chorus at the end and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up .It also seems more " present " within the scene , as the rhythms match the movements of the characters on screen ( I don’t see the victory celebration music being conducive to dancing ) and the Ewoks using the stormtrooper helmets as drums works better as well . Sure , nostalgia is part of it , but only a very small part for me .

This.

Another Galaxy…another time.

30,000 Years BBY (BB=Before the Battle of Yavin):

The hyperdrive is invented. This technology allows starships to “jump” into another dimension in which travel time between stars is drastically reduced. This allows a truly Galactic Civilization to begin to form.

*Prior to this Warp Drives did allow practical interstellar travel, but only within local star clusters. Maximum speeds achievable with Warp Drive would allow a starship to cross the galaxy in 200 years.

*Warp Drive is needed to explain how, in ESB, the Millennium Falcon can get from one star system to another in a short period of time (was it weeks or months in the film?) without a functioning Hyperdrive.

I think Obi-Wan believed Anakin was (literally, biologically) dead when he dropped off Luke, and that Owen would have also. And that it wasn’t until later that he learned Vader survived. It explains why they thought taking Luke there was a sane idea and more comfortably fits in with what we hear from Owen and Beru in ANH.

The most reasonable thing to assume would be that Owen and Obi were lying to Luke: Tatooine was not the birthplace of Anakin (or his wife). Obi and Owen fled there with the infant Luke (the furthest place from “the bright centre of the universe”) to be in hiding.

Of course the PT screws all that up.

How often do you watch the Original Trilogy?
Time

Less and less each year. Just in general Star Wars has been replaced with The Witcher, Mass Effect, and other gaming universes. Gaming and Podcasts have increasingly replaced movies and TV (and reading, sadly) in how I spend my entertainment hours.

Man, back in the 90s and early 00s I would watch these films so much, buy up tons of EU material (books, comics, games).

My main engagement with Star Wars is playing KOTOR2: The Sith Lords, once a year or so.

Your ideal Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

A faithful adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy, with a few minor changes of course to fit with TFA’s time period.

I agree. Indeed, Disney only cares about money - so why worry about having a canon universe/continuity? Just make The Thrawn Trilogy as part of an alternative timeline. Instead of striving for a shared universe like Marvel and DC, just let various series and movies be independent of each other. Way easier really.

I mean with Lucas out of the picture, does anyone really care what the “true” canon is anymore?

Opinion: Return Of The Jedi is Very Underrated. Do You Agree?
Time

This again? 😉

The main problem for me is that Ford and Fisher mail in their performances. They also do not work in Vader’s plan to overthrow The Emperor (with Luke’s help) as he had revealed in ESB. I like the Ewoks, but can understand why others don’t.

Hamill gives his best performance for sure. Vader becomes a person rather than just a villain as well. I love The Emperor of course. The space battle is just incredible; who can forget https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv45FxbXb_0

What happens to the Republic after Ruusan? Any wars?

No fullscale wars, no. The Republic becomes complacent and slovenly in the centuries after the New Sith Wars, which leads to the growth of crime syndicates and localized conflicts between individual planets/systems. This is what ultimately causes the Clone Wars.

Yes. My own timeline marked the rise of the Hutts and the Megacorps (Kuat Drive Yards etc.) in the 200 years preceding the Clone Wars. The Clone Masters were the most powerful of these. But for about 700 years before this the Republic experienced it’s Golden Age.
