Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I don't know. If this set doesn't correct the lightsaber issues (as it apparently does not), Hunt may really lay into them and forgo said "Ranch Invite". He'd been told and reported in that visit to the Ranch that the issues had been resolved. He seemed really peeved in yesterday's post re: the 3D story (which turned out to be old) and I have a feeling "the end" of his being nice to Lucasfilm is nigh.

Here's that post:

Also today, it turns out that all 6 Star Wars films might not get the full 3D conversion after all. Why? Well, it seems demand MIGHT not be what Lucasfilm was expecting. Producer Rick McCallum now says they're starting with Phantom Menace and will do one per year in chronological order "if they work." Good luck with that, after pissing off fans with more pointless tweaking of the films. Hey Rick - you want to know what MIGHT get people back in theatres for these? 3D-convert the ORIGINAL theatrical versions, and then promise to release them on Blu-ray with the original versions in both 2D and 3D in PROPER, remastered quality. Yeah, I won't hold my breath. Anyway, more at TG Daily.

Wow. How does this guy have any credibility? I noticed the colour problems immediately (the Tantive's laser blasts were so dull).

You have to remember that Bill Hunt is routinely invited to Skywalker Ranch for previews when the DVD's came out and the Blurays just a few weeks ago.

If he blasts Lucasfilm, then he won't get that invite anymore.
I email him all the time that he needs to take a stand against Lucas tinkering with these films and stop attending these Lucasfilm promotions because he doesn't look objective.

Of course, I dont' get a response, and I'm sure he will give this Bluray set a nice review, and just a passing mention that the movies have been altered again, and no originals in this set either.

Bingo.

Most reviewers will only say negative things about a release once they can get lost in the sea of complaints by other "respected" reviewers.  And that is usually only a few years later.

Well, then he's in the same camp as theforce.net

True, but we're getting a louder voice these days.  If he won't listen to us, he may listen to a two star rating on Amazon or heat from more than just a fellow director or two.

It would be nice if Steven Spielberg laid into him a time or two.  I just picked up the Close Encounters Blu-Ray yesterday.  Fantastic set.  Looks unbelievable for a 34-year old film.  Plus, you get to choose between 3 versions.  Then there's Lucas's other contemporaries and mentors: Ridley Scott and Francis Ford Coppola.  Then there's the Alien set.  I know this has been covered already, but I still shake my head at the thought that other filmmakers know how to satisfy fans, and then there's George...

George himself has shown us the way.

When people politely ask to see the original versions fully restored and available to legitimately purchase he says, "No! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!".

So when he trundles out another inaccurately advertised set of his currently preferred versions without what we want inside we just have to say, "No! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" back only louder and in concert with each other.

If the films are his to do whatever he wants with, our money is ours, our industry is ours.

If you really want to buy these sets my advice is don't do it now.

There will be plenty of second hand or reduced price options if you wait a while.

Buying these sets now, full price sends Lucas the wrong message.

I'm waiting until Bill Hunt reviews it and then I'm quite sure I STILL won't want the set.

notice something?

"The Phantom Menace REVISITED"
Um, no.  Please elaborate...
Some think this is a subtle reference to Adywan's Revisited Project, but I think they just happened to chose similar wording.

Duh.  I didn't catch the obvious quote regarding the sw.com header.  Nah, I think they chose similar wording.

Just read this on jeditemplearchives.com;

Latest Star Wars Saga DVDs Recalled? No Longer An Opportunity To Buy?

We have learned of a rumor. Please take this with a grain of salt until more in confirmed, but one of our readers has attempted to purchase some of the currently available Star Wars films on DVD. He was informed by a Walmart employee that all have been recalled. I have also not been able to find any in stock at the moment. Have we all missed the boat trying to grab the current versions? Does this mean that forever our beloved films will have Ewoks blinking? Could Lucasfilm, Ltd. be futilely trying to get rid of remaining existing versions of the Star Wars saga? More on this later as the story develops. But let us know if your experiences are different.

Link: http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=8447

I just checked Walmart's site and anything related to the last release of the DVDs are "out of stock online." Prequels and Classic Trilogy.

from MF.com

"Jedi Rocks" is still there and unchanged.

Vader's "NO's" have been added. The first sounds like it has been sloppily laid on top of the mix, the second is from ROTS.

See, that just freaking pisses me off.... you have Lucas with a sh*t-ton on money to throw at this release, to "improve" it as he "sees fit", yet he can't hire James Earl Jones or even Chad Vader for one damn day to do some new voice work, he just recycles that BS line from ROTS over the audio mix and think's it'll sound perfectly fine when it won't. -_-

They could be both the same "Nooo" from ROTS, and an unused take of the first "no".  At least they sound more like JEJ than the "alert my star destroyer" Ep V line.  I've NEVER thought that was JEJ, and I don't buy Ben Burtt's BS about it being a discarded take from Ep IV

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Hello to all,

I'm new to the forum, but have been a viewer for a while and a frequent visitor to originaltrilogy.com (signed the petition long ago) and have been very interested in the pre-Special Edition DVD sets that have been discussed.  Would love to get copies of the OT any way I can; MySpleen invite, or whatever.

If some are hesitant because I'm new I understand, but would love to be able to watch the OT the way I remember.

Thanks in advance
