Maybe Palpatine’s plan from the beginning is to get them both in front of them to drain their life force.

Good idea; I feel as if this was partially what JJ had in mind but only on paper since it doesn’t come across well. I say partially because Palp’s goal was to live on through Rey, so it was like Plan B for him.

Palpatine’s announcement makes zero sense in the sense he’d announce his army BEFORE it was ready to launch, because that just lures the entire galaxy to find and attack. Now, if he’s doing it to lure Rey there, Death Star 2 style, then that makes a bit more sense.

  • If there’s any other good way to link the massive civilian fleet with Luke’s ‘spark of hope,’ I’d do it.

There have been attempts to incorporate Palpatine’s message into this film or TLJ…IF that is successful, it may be thematically appropriate for Luke to do something similar at the very end.

For example, say that Ep 9 climaxes with Palpatine defeating the resistance fleet and then he sends out a message over the radio waves. “Witness the end of the resistance…” and then cut to a scene of the First Order ships starting to head towards planets…who then all react to Palpatine’s message continuing. “…there is no hope. There is no more struggle. There is only…the Final Order.”

Cut to reaction shots, sort of the opposite of ROTJ’s celebrations, except everyone is panicking as Palpatine laughs and continues…but then his signal is cut off. What’s happening? People all turn to their screens, confused. The familiar voice of Luke Skywalker emerges. “No…there is always hope.”

Cut to Rey hearing this as well and getting up. Palpatine pauses his message to deal with this…the resistance fleet all hears it as well, and then they turn to the sky to see Lando and the entire army. Lando: “They heard you, Luke, they all heard you.”

I wonder if it would be possible (or even a good idea) to change the twist into that Rey was a clone made by Palpatine to give his soul a new body. Might be able to be accomplished by adding a few Rey bodies in the tanks with the Snoke bodies.

Keeps the same energy as her being his granddaughter without having the question of who the hell did Palpatine hook up with. Also keeps continuity that her parents were “nobody”.

Rey being a clone would’ve been a far, far better plot point than her just being “a Palpatine.” It was really a stretch how they had to make Rey’s parents still be “nobody” yet still explain the granfather link.

In fact, having the Dark Side vision Rey actually be real and be a clone would’ve been far more interesting, too. Probably too hard to do with current VFX editing, though.

If the leaks and deleted scenes are true about Adam Driver filming a scene with Daisy on Tattooine, this would suggest originally, Kylo and Rey were supposed to “retire” on Luke’s farm in the final scene.

This may be possible to still do, with Driver digitally inserted. Maybe use heavy shadowing in the Binary Sunset, possibly lighten up his dark outfit, etc.

Rey could look to the side when asked for her name by the farmer, and maybe have Ben smile and nod, giving the ok to call herself a Skywalker now.

On screen text, especially the text in GotG 1&2 is my bane. I’m trying to make consistent date and location texts (especially when it comes to font) and move the logos and credits to the beginning and end, but these two movies can be a pain in the neck about it.

You can do a cheap solution and do an overlay OVER the existing txt. Like a black bar with new text. I believe you could use a blurring tool to make the black bar auto-match colors with the surrounding background.

Won’t look that great but better than cutting the scene.

I was thinking about putting text cards detailing which universe Endgame stuff takes place in. This is especially to help contradictory scenes that might be running close in time. Simultaneous contradictory scenes would be pretty easy to digest (such as the opening of GotG1 with the Morag scene from Endgame), but something like Loki escaping in Endgame will be just two scenes before he’s shown captured and sent to Asgard (from Avengers 1). What do you guys think? Also, how should the six different timelines be named, since I can’t seem to find any official names?

Perhaps we can exchange notes?

PM me if you’re interested, but it also sounds like our fanedits are pretty different.

You could name each timeline after the movie events that Endgame revisted.
I.e.
2012 - Loki timeline
2013 - Asgard timeline
2014 - Guardians timeline
and so forth.

By coincidence, I am also working on a similar edit. Mine has a slightly different goal, though–it’s to shave down as much as possible to make it a streamlined series. It’d be aimed at NON-superhero audiences who prefer drama over action.

I’m calling it Game of Marvels, patterned after Game of Thrones in the style of cutting between different characters.

So it’s chronological as well, but very very specifically focused on certain characters. Many things will be cut if they don’t impact the overall narrative (i.e. the fake Mandarin).

Perhaps we can exchange notes?

Idea: for a fan edit of 'Avengers: Infinity War'...

I have some ideas for a fan edit of Avengers: Infinity War. Here’s my ideas:

  1. I know this will be really hard to do, but change the timezone in the post-credits scene with Nick Fury, because it’s not possible for New York to be in daytime while it’s daytime in Wakanda as well.

It’s possible. Africa can still have daylight when the sun is up in New York.

https://giphy.com/gifs/earth-tCua18eASM8VO For example.

The sounds are entirely unfinished, as I haven’t really isolated the dialogue or completed the saber sound effects. This is a proof of concept more than anything.

I like it. The only problem of course is that they constantly change location from one shot to another.
I think we should put other scenes between different parts of the duel. If we don’t want Yoda going to Palpy, though, it’s really complicated, because apart from Yoda meditating we don’t have other scenes that could happen during the duel on Mustafar.
I like the music and the sound effects.

PS: Or we could… I don’t know, maybe add some dissolve effect between different parts of the duel. If done well, it could show the passing of time.

This is what you can do with Palpatine and Yoda: make their battle mental.

If someone can get shots of Palpatine, or at least a robed figure, meditating, then Yoda and Palpatine’s battle can be a mental one where they project each other into each other’s minds. Thus you can cut to, say, the various shots of Yoda concentrating in pain spliced with the actual physical battle footage. Maybe use shots of Yoda collapsing in pain during the Jedi purge when he loses to Palpatine. Could overlay the Palps vs Yoda footage with a green or red filter to show it’s in the mind. A REALLY good editor could go one step further and add a ghostly affect to either Yoda or Palps to have them fighting Luke vs Kylo style.

Or if that’s too complex, then just reorder the Jedi purge to be happening DURING the Obi-Wan/Anakin battle to make it extra tragic that it all collapses at once.

this might take a lot of dubbing but make naboo aladaren. so when naboo is getting attacked we feel sad and depreseed because we know what happens in a new hope

If there had been a plausible way to do this, I would. But since nobody in TPM says the name “Alderaan”, it would be pretty weird to never speak of the planet that is being evaded, and remove all mention of Naboo.

There may be someone who says “Alderaan” in the audiobooks or similar media.

Something that’s always irked me is how this shot is static:

We’re about to be introduced to our lead characters and the camera isn’t doing anything? Not anymore!

Most people think that’s a boring way to introduce the main characters, but imagine if Lucas had gone with his original idea:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDUKrghYJLA

This would explain the slightly empty right hand side.

I always thought that the ORIGINAL deleted opening scene from Phantom, while strange, would be interesting to see on screen.
