Yeah, I wish Ben had survived the movie, but if there’s ever actually good canon material set after TROS, then I think the only real option which would maintain continuity would be to stick his ghost in and cut the kiss/adjust the music to sell his death as more of a premeditated heroic sacrifice. As-is, it felt to me like it was deliberately edited to be comically sudden and unexpected, like Meet the Spy or something.

There may be a way to make it a symmetry with Anakin’s force birth and have Rey be pregnant with Kylo’s kid through their dyad. He does touch her abdomen briefly before dying.

My point is they might kill him off.

I’d say that’d be incredibly risky for Disney to do right now since the SW property isn’t doing so hot.

Not saying it’d be BAD, Game of Thrones showed you can have major characters die and continue the series if written well.

But I can’t see Disney allowing Favreau to do it anytime soon. Maybe in like 2025 when the series gets stale after season 5 and there’s Wakiki’s new Star Wars movie coming out.

If Rey HAD used Sith Lightning herself to ultimately defeat Palpatine, it would’ve worked in a narrative sense since the trilogy was strongly suggesting that a more balanced approach to light and dark was the new Jedi way. I honestly was surprised they DID NOT have her use Kylo’s saber and Luke’s saber together to reflect that.

It’d be hard to edit the lightning into a Dragonball Z style fight, but theoretically there’s enough closeups of Rey and enough arm-only shots to make it feasible.

Pryde was ultimately completely pointless. There was a hint of something interesting of him being a Sith cultist as he had that psychotic look in his eyes when contacting Palpatine.

Unfortunately that’s about as far as it goes. He’d have to be introduced back in TLJ or even TFA to have any interesting impact on the plot.

Maaaaaybe there might be a way of using other footage of the actor to create a weird Sith-worshipping scene, like using his dialogue over some robed imagery, but otherwise I’d almost say Pryde should be cut from the story in general. Hux can die with the crashing of the Star Destroyers easily.

One of Lucas’ ideas that never came to fruition was to have Artoo (and the Whills, etc.) telling the story of Star Wars to the in-universe audience.

Imagine if JJ had taken the opportunity to use this idea and have ROS ending with Artoo telling the blank CP30 the entire saga…

“Well, hello there. I don’t believe we’ve met.”
Beep
“You have a story? Well, I’d like to hear it. When did it start?”
Beep
“That long ago? How far away?”
Boop…[Fade out]

It’s a bit dark, but if Chewie stayed dead and Rey actually spent time dealing with the demons…that would’ve made for a better movie overall. In fact I’m sure that was intended at some point but the executive hands rewrote it. Same with 3po…

I agree. I thought that was what was going to happen after Chewie’s “death scene” and I was excited for it. I remember thinking “holy shit, Rey kills Chewbacca, this is going to be good,” but then we learn he’s still alive a minute later and Rey doesn’t really have to deal with it. Would’ve loved to see more of her struggling with the darkness within her, and afraid to continue on, fearing that she’ll destroy the rest of her friends.

Maybe there’s a way to restructure all 3 films to have Chewie’s death matter and Rey goes into a form of exile on her own. Nothing in ROS had consequences…but maybe there’s a way to mix it and TLJ into one film where things actually stick. Maybe something like ending TLJ with her alone on Luke’s island, or maybe Luke being a ghost the whole time, or maybe turn all of ROS into “the war” and have TLJ be the actual ending with Luke sacrificing himself to force-Holdo maneuver the whole fleet.

I was thinking of a radical change to all 3 movies.

Maybe there is a way to use Chewbacca’s death actually real as part of the larger narrative.

If Rey actually felt consequences and had to fight that demon in her mind…that’d make for a stronger character arc.

This would require something like her exiling to Luke’s Island being the actual end of a movie. In ROS, she went there and then left in like an hour. But if she actually did that at the end of Movie 2…that’d make her return in movie 3 that much more meaningful.

This would require heavy restructuring but I think it’s possible. Luke would have to be reworked as well–perhaps he is already a force ghost in TFA.

Aaaaand, it’s released!

Again, this is just an Alpha version. MP4 conversion (needed for Sony Vegas) gave me some problems, so I’ll eventually remake all of this from scratch, and I’ll add all the cool clips other wonderful editors are making.
Don’t mind the Anakin’s force ghost. I stopped working on that when I heard that jonh was going to make the whole scene.

Still, I think there are some cool ideas here and there, and some nice music additions.
Major changes:

  1. Rey killed her parents and forgot about it
  2. Exegol is grey-ish
  3. Palpatine reveal not in crawl, he appears later.
  4. Opening revolves around a rumour of an old Imperial fleet in the Unknown regions.
  5. Palpatine’s message heard while we see shots from Coruscant, Yavin IV and Ajan Kloss.
This is not my best edit, not at all. But now I can go back and finish my ROTJ, which is coming out even better than anticipated 😉

PM me for links if interested

Can I have a link?

I would second this, please!

The audiobook had more Snoke exposition; here is an edit that incorporates it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChApvPDTuuk

TLJ made a serious error in killing him with ZERO explanation.

I had hopes that Solo would reveal young Snoke as the crimelord, which would’ve at least explained his rise to power after ROTJ…but they went with Maul instead.

A potential direction would be to lean on the idea that Rey is a feral Force user who can’t distinguish what her power actually comes from. In that case when she confronts Sheev it is the first time her power is being put to the test, so it isn’t if she can defeat him but whether she can do it using only the light side that counts.

This was where I thought her character was going. After her snarl in TFA, “you went straight to the dark” in TLJ, and especially after her lightning in this movie, I felt it was clear she was using the dark side most of the time, even though she was using it to do good. After all, it is quicker, easier, and more seductive, and Rey always tended to be motivated by strong emotions. I was really hoping for an “I am a Jedi, like my father before me” moment where she finds a light side way to defeat Palpatine. Instead we got a hilarious inversion of Luke throwing his saber away and refusing to fight: she force pulls a SECOND saber into her other hand, allowing her to more effectively EXPLODE Palpatine’s FACE.

I mean, is that what happened?

All Rey did was block/defend himself in that scene. Palpatine was killed by his own hubris, not Rey.

She deflected the lightning back at him, while walking at him. She could have deflected the lightning in any direction. To say that Palpatine killed himself is in my opinion as if to say that someone who threw a grenade at you and died of the explosion of said grenade, because you threw it back, committed suicide.
I’ll admit the comparison is a tad bit more extreme, but that’s roughly how I feel about Palpatine’s death.

All 3 trilogies end with Palpatine electrocuting himself. It’s like poetry…

I wonder if there’s a way to do the Colin Trevorrow script of 9 somehow.

Deepfake technology is better than ever.

Audiobooks have lots of unused dialogue.

The actors like Driver or Daisy have other roles to get lines.

There’s movie quality video game and other sources of media.

It’d be incredibly hard, but I think it’d be doable to do the script from all the material out there.

Color correction. I HATE colors in this movie. Everything is blue: Exegol, Kijimi, the opening with Finn and Poe, the Star Destroyers’ interiors. I want more diversity. Exegol will be more black and grey, just as the Star Destroyers.

100% agree. The entire movie seemed to have weird headache-inducing color contrasts.

JJ really made a poor decision to use repeating strobe lights of blue and white on Exegol. The flashing lightning was legit causing seizure warnings.

@Jonh Amazing work, but just a nitpick, would you be able to flip the positions of Ben/Yoda and Anakin/Luke? In the next shot of Rey with the lightsaber I think it would be amazing imagery to have her then Luke then Anakin behind her to the right, instead of Ben/Yoda. Either way. Amazing work.

so better???
I have changed the positions, as you have told me … it is true that in the following shots, with Rey with the lightsaber, those on the right are more visible, and I think it is logical to put anakin and luke there

Amazing stuff! You have serious talent. The expressions fit perfectly.

The flashing light, though…that was a problem with the original movie too. Not sure why JJ wanted to cause seizures like that. Would it be possible to work around that?

Yeah, basically, the only way Palpatine’s plan has any logic is if getting Rey and/or Kylo there helps his cause.

The problem is that Kylo already voluntarily went there at the start, demonstrating Palpatine doesn’t actually NEED Kylo.

So for the climax requiring Rey’s presence, it would need to be either:

  1. Palpatine specifically needs her there for the soul/genetic transfer. This was basically what the movie suggested as is, though in an incredibly hamfisted manner since why would she willingly be possessed by Palpatine after he says that’s what he’s going to do?

  2. Rey and Kylo’s force bond (the Dyad) is what Palpatine needed. This could fit with Rogueleader’s idea–in other words, Rey IS NOT Palpatine’s granddaughter and it’s their emotional bond that gives him strength. It fits with the “Rey is nobody” theme better than the weak “it was just her parents who were nobody” excuse. I realize this isn’t the best explanation, but we have to work with what the film gave us.

Honestly, the Palpatine-Rey connection is the weakest part of her story since his plot makes no sense. If he HAD NOT told her that striking him down would result in him possessing her, she probably would have done it in anger and he’d have won. So why did JJ have Palps monologue like that?

An additional idea for TLJ, what if we took the deleted scene of the Stormtroopers on the elevator, and redub >the one that recognizes Finn to create an entirely new context. What if the stormtrooper(s) recognized Finn, >but they let him go?

That’s a really good idea. Might even be possible to make that Stormtrooper Jannah with lines from the actress.
