I was wondering if this method for smoothing out the compositing looks convincing.

Would rather wait for a 35mm film scan in 4K of TESB 1997 Special Edition compared to whatever this is.
You do that. Back in the mid-00’s this was as close as was possible to get.
Yup. The 35mm scan is looking mighty fine too compared to this outdated project from the mid-2000s.
It’s not outdated, it’s in 1080p. unless you think that “4K” is the definitive resolution.

. stormtrooper that bumps his head now doesn’t, he stays back until the leader trooper enters the room.
Woah! How are you going to achieve this? Not just by cropping the image I’m assuming?
The stormtrooper will stay back until the other troopers come in, this works because he is the one standing guard. I’ll achieve this by freezing him after the door opens and to hide this I’ll add some slight movement.
Anything I missed please tell me.
also V.2 will have full visual change list, like this:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/5kED5fe56duiLx639I was thinking about the change of the star destroyer you made and there is another problem the bridge crest is different on the devastator to the ones in ESB. It’s not that noticeable but it is a difference in the model.
Can you restore the alternate take from Vader in the original theatrical trailer and rotoscope his lightsaber? This is something that should have happened decades ago but has never been done to my knowledge nobody ever seems to want to include this better more aggressive shot where he hits the wall… If you do do that then can you please share it as then people can finally make Star Wars trailers with finished effects 😃
If you want to go one step further on the Lightsaber Duel in the editing in the film when Obi-wan spins around he finishes swiping high after the twirl if the scenes are placed in the correct order he actually was meant to do a low swipe which would restore the original choreography and to be honest it’s a better move too.
Do you have the clip on you?
Update time!
V.2 will be released hopefully by March, or maybe even earlier. The audio will be 5.1 now instead of stereo, thanks to Hal 900’s lossless mix.
below are some of the changes made for V.2. Threepio now says “there will be no escape this time”
. scenes restored back to there original form will have the audio to match.
. stormtrooper that bumps his head now doesn’t, he stays back until the leader trooper enters the room.
. all lightsaber flashes have been re-done.
. the five frames during the escape from the DS that where removed in the SE have been reinstated.
. Frames lost during the creation of DevEd have been re-instated.
. Most changes from Darth Editous’s edit have been replicated here.
(pm for link to his edit)Anything I missed please tell me.

It’s strange how this one shot has been taken out of every online version of the latest season 3 trailer and can only be seen in the trailer on the USA version of Disney+
Huh that’s weird, are you sure you’re on the us version?
I cant seem to find that shot in the trailer.
Edit: Never mind, news is spreading that disney plus secretly released “Alternate” trailer:
please delte this tread
I looked up delte.

my god i use that site! lot of fun.
DevEd V.1
DevEd V.2
Flipping the Death Star causes problems with the lighting now coming from the wrong direction when compared to the stardestroyer.
I flipped it because I replaced the earlier shot of the destroyer with the one from ESB;
so I wanted them to match.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
DevEd V.1
DevEd V.2
Either one would do.
So It’s against the rules to share direct links here.
I didn’t know that when I started so I had to learn it the hard way.
Just describe you’re edit here
and if people want to see it they’ll PM you.
i have added the sc38 scene into my cut of the adywan edit with a few extra cuts here and there took out the audio flash backs of anakin and obi wan
Then make your own thread.

Nicely done! Damn, how do you get that nice of a composite? Since you use Davinci Resolve, I’m assuming you do it in the fusion tab?
Nope, all in color.
Thanks to adywan I now have the background element and can finally finish this shot:

Id like a link aswell
These are all great ideas guys, maybe V.20 will have more story changes.
I’ll do that. I was erring on the side of more smoothing only because I assumed it mattered how closely the test and reference images were identically aligned.
If I understand correctly, I could shuffle the pixels of both images into a random order and get the same result.
Have you found a smoothing number that works best when the sources just aren’t cropped or aspect-ed identically?
0.05 usually works for me if the two sources really look different.
