Color matching and prediction: color correction tool v1.3 released!

I’ll do that. I was erring on the side of more smoothing only because I assumed it mattered how closely the test and reference images were identically aligned.

If I understand correctly, I could shuffle the pixels of both images into a random order and get the same result.

Have you found a smoothing number that works best when the sources just aren’t cropped or aspect-ed identically?

0.05 usually works for me if the two sources really look different.

They should be cropped the same.

Exactly this.

Why’ll you’re here Dr, why do sometimes weird colored pixels show up in the highlighted areas and never seem to go away on any settings?

I’m trying to use this for two different sources for ESB, one from 2004 and another the 19SE. I align the images as best I can before generating the two frames to feed into the tool, but I can’t get it to be exact.

Would it be better to use a higher smoothing parameter? I haven’t seen DrDre recommend anything higher than 0.1, but it can go as high as 1. If the two images are not totally identical (same frame, but the sources aren’t pixel-perfect), is there a drawback to using 1 as the smoothing parameter?

you should adjust the color spaces to about 75. that yields better and more elegant results.
only use the smoothing parameter if there’s any color pixelation.

I’m wondering, are the galleries that show how Harmy drew on different sources to make Despecialized still available? The pictures.google.com links don’t seem to work for Empire or Star Wars.

I believe this is what you’re looking for which I archived a while back, hope this is it:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AowuMCRBTqsugdEa_kMz9CY3KsWXDw?e=hpRFhh

I ask for the comparisons for Empire and you send me the ones for A New Hope.

Why?

You also said “star wars” you didn’t specify just ESB.
chill out.

I just want to say I would like a link to when this is eventually completed.

I saw in a prior post that this project was temporarily abandoned, but I am really glad that you continued with this.

On another matter, since coming across fan editing a few months ago, the biggest shock is how much memory and storage required to do this work. I read articles explaining why, and it shows you cannot get away with a cheap laptop.

I want to thank editors for volunteering their time and money for the fans.

I’d like to echo this and also thank all the members that donated to DevEd and The gout preservation cause.
thanks.

EDIT: also if you haven’t already checked out Adywans edit it’s 200% percent better than mine! he’s been going at it for 16 years! he’s working on the HD version now. he’s already completed ESB too!

Alright, I’ll now render a smaller version for viewing.
I’ll be posting them on google drive by the way.
hopefully, they’ll be done by new years eve.

After that, I’ll probably take a break and return to the 4K ANH Remaster and Gout Restored.
But no release date promises are made, not yet anyway.

anyhow let me get back to Rendering…

goodnight everyone.

So I’m having a bit of an issue.
After rendering the file to my external drive, It doesnt open and instead sends me an error message like this:

I’ve tried to render a portion to my internal drive and it seems fine.
but the problem is that my internal drive is almost full and can’t hold a 30GB file.
what do I do?

I also tried converting it via AVIDEMUX but that doesn’t seem to work either.
I’m using Davinci resolve for rendering BTW.

It sounds like a corrupt encode. Resolve is useless at detecting any problems during render and will just continue and report a completed render. Rendering to an external drive can cause problems with large files. It’s best to render to an internal drive. Also resolve will continue to render and produce a " completed render" even if the hard drive was full prior to the render completing because it doesn’t check to see if there is enough space before rendering. Best thing to do is to shift some files temporarily from your internal drive to your external so you have plenty of space to render the movie to the internal one. Sadly you will likely have to re-render the file again.

You could possibly try loading the file into tsmuxer and demuxing the file, then remuxing as this did solve a couple of problems i had with encodes when using resolve in the past. Resolves muxing process seemed to be a bit hit and miss with larger encodes, which is why i scrapped using it and went back to Vegas.

sounds good I’ll try that.

Does this edit use that shot you fix on your 2020 4k of a new hope of C-3PO on the falcon?

This project uses the 2011 Blu-ray as its ultimate source (as color corrected by Adywan circa 2018). The main source for his other, longer-term project that was demo’d with that shot of 3PO on the Falcon uses the 19SE as its primary source.

I don’t know whether he plans to merge the two sometime in the future, but the 19SE-based project aims to present a good base for editors to use going forward.

no. read the list.
What does that have to do with this edit anyway? those are two separate edits.

I love it and it’s makes me wonder is there someone combining these kinds of fixes with the work adywan is doing with a new hope revisited hd when it eventually comes out with other changes he hasn’t thought of like with the radio drama audio your adding in your a new hope edit etc.

What do you mean? all the changes I’ve made Adywan has already done, and then some.

So this and your DEVASTATOR edition has the same audio and video changes as adywan a new hope revisited hd will have?

Obviously no this, but yes he has the same changes and more than the devastator edit. Just read his list man.
