I know it would be lots of work, but I wish you could implement this process for the lightsaber scene so there was red and green light on Luke and Vader

Adywan has already said that to do that the characters would need to be fully lit to add glow and light falloff, in both luke and Vader are in very deep shadow, so this would be impossible to do.

I lost my copy too, Ady did send me a DVD many many years ago when it first came out, and I’m dying to see it again after all this time. I can’t for the life of me find it!

Can you please post a link for me too?

His website, it’s on his website.

just go to “about revisited” > “how to get”.

if you want a Google Drive link then pm me.
but I’m not taking any other requests for links after this! you guys have to know how to obtain edits.

TGWNN's 4K77 fully remastered (WIP)
Time

This is a full-scale restoration/remaster of 4k77.
Full shot for shot color correction, shot for shot dust/scratches removal and
DNR/regraining. I want this to be as close as a professional remaster of the original film could look like.
no more green tint, no more deep blacks. No More Dust/Scratches

Sources:
.4k77 1.4 (NO DNR)
.4k78
.Star Wars Silver Screen Edition (used strictly and only for color reference)

Release info:
Aspect ratio - 1920x1080. (A 4k version will be released later)
Frame rate - 23.976
Audio tracks -
track 1, Original '77 stereo mix.
track 2, 70mm 5.1 mix.
track 3, mono track.

Preview comp:

btw accidentally switched the clips in the second part to 400x zoom. sorry.

I will say, that shot of the SSD going into the DS2… there is some weirdness, but that was still always one of my favorite shots. But… I guess thats what I have 4K83 for. Can’t wait to see what you do with the whole movie. I actually endorse you leaning heavily into CG and a modernized look. Now that we have the theatricals in 4K, I want to see the completely modernized versions of the films, CG and all. I want something that fits in with the modern series.

Now, I wish that all the new movies and shows would go crazy with practical effects and always shooting on grainy 35mm film etc etc… but thats not the world we’re in. We’re in the world where they’re all digital. So I’d like to have versions of the OT to reflect that. My plan for my kids has always been, watch the originals theatrical (or even just “Star Wars” and “Empire”), then start the whole series over in chronological order and watch the entire series, shows and all, that way.

Well, curated fan edits of the entire series 😃

I don’t think that’s the point of revisited. Adywan’s goal is to polish and update the already excellent film. To “revisit” it without breaking the films style. Not to modernize it. Lucas already tried that, and we all know what that yielded.

You can give me back my beer now xD

Depends on the beer :p

Great analysis, cheers! It was a bit too simplistic how I presented it, I admit. I just always “felt” the SSD was way too small in that impact shot. Your math confirms it. For the SSD be that size in the shot and from that camera point, it would definitely crash beyond the ‘horizon’. Not an exiting angle so I’m curious what Ady will do.

Yeah, it was a good spot though, with the scaling issues. The destruction did always feel a bit, underwhelming and I think you hit the nail on the head why. The SSD was to small. Idk how up to date it is but Adywan did have “New super-stardestroyer destruction.” on his changes list. So time will tell.

I like how Ady keeps us on edge, most editors (including me) post previews of all their changes as soon as they’re complete. (putting off any real reason to rewatch it at the end) but Adywan likes to surprise us but still likes to take feedback if prompted.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

Short video (link at the bottom) showing the sources that i used to recreate the original 1977 version of the scene in the image below, followed by the new HD recreation. The Special Edition droid never looked good IMHO and it’s something i always wanted to remove but didn’t have the skills to do it back when i created the SD version of ANH:R.

This one took a LOT of work and just over 3 weeks to complete. I had to combine the best elements of each source , with each one having its own problems. The 4K77 print scan had a lot of print damage that needed cleaning up by hand just so i could use small sections. The 2011 Blu-Ray had more details in parts than the new 2020 blu-ray edition but suffered with blurry faces of the characters in the background. While the 2020 blu-ray lost a lot of detailing in the brighter areas. So, to get this done, it was weeks of cleaning, stabilising, tracking, rotoscoping, grading and manually lining up and matching each source to overlay on top of each other to get the bets possible details out of the sources.

Youtube’s crappy compression really screws with the videos now. So here is a snapshot so you can see it in full quality (the grain hasn’t been added yet)

And, for those that want to see it in higher quality than on youtube, you can download the sample here:
