Time
every single imperial laser bolt in the final space battle has been rotoscoped and replaced.

the cockpit scenes in the falcon immediately after the destruction of alderaan have been completely redone and colour corrected due to some horrible blue and red casting to the flesh tones. much more natural look has been achieved.

tech dome was too bright so that's been muted down a bit.

certain star scenes have been redone because they have blown out details on the ships.

more blue casting has been removed on the tantive iv.

project logo now finished, see profile tag + project logo intro movie file done. see download link here.

Lord of the Rings - FOTR - The Book-Cut (Released)

like it. a good list of the changes and I do agree on the colour issues. lothlorien looks better warmedup.

my only beef with your choice is not showing boromirs death.

it redeems him as a character...unless you're going to show his death later as a flashback when merry is telling the steward about his son. ie merrys audio and we see aragorn die.

grief what a crap three weeks its been.

what had happened is imagine this.

each channel is a seperate line able to be edited in the multi track editor.

when I've been dragging bits and bobs around to sync up, over time whats happened is that individual channels have had seperated streams pulled out of alignment and that makes it impossible to tug them back where they should have been because obviously, each channels waveform does not match each other due to individual channels discrete effects.

so, I had to redo it from scratch. that is now finished.

in the meantime, I have also tweaked a few more scenes, spotted a few errors that had slipped through the net and also came up with some more fixes to the final space battle that have been bugging the hell out of me.

I'm off to work now but upon my return in the am tomorrow I will start remuxing the master file etc to cut a new test disc.

cheers

update.

I am in the process of re-doing the 5,.1 track from scratch, basically the old work file was becoming so patched, individual streams were getting out of sync compounding problems even further. I have resynced a new track up and am in the process of adding the bits of bobs to make it sing, but it is proving tougher than I thought to sync up a 5.1 track from 4 different sound sources.

disc v2. issues still exist. the 5.1 sound is still off by up to 5 frames in a few places. have also identified a few bits that need further correction. they look lousy on TV. however, the 0verall colour balance is good and it looks very very impressive on my TV. Sony Wega 50hz btw which has been properly calibrated too.

other soundtracks are fine and the bit rate is good with no buffer underuns.

womble issue
Time
i muxed my m2v and then noticed a slight glitch. considering it takes 10 hours to render I thought I'd try the womble route and ran into an issue.

at 1:25:06 is the end of the clip. then I've inserted a 30 second m2v file to fix the issue I had, then I've got the rest of the movie up to 1:56:43.

I then use womble to create a new m2v file. fine, done, works in powerdvd. when importing it into maestro, it says the file is only 1:25:06 long. ie, womble has not put the correct timestamp on the newly muxed file to the correct length, ergo, can't use the file in maestro, can't master / burn a disc for test.

have I missed a step here?

odd vegas 5 issue
Time
in the last month or so my Vegas 5.0 has been doing some odd things.

when I ask it to playback a clip, the sound has a constant annoying tick tock tick tock in the background which is irritating beyond belief.

anyone know if I've managed to tick some option box thats enabled this bloody thing and how I turn it off.

Time
have now muxed the first dvd.

it looks like there are some niggling sound issues which have come about from making the various soundtracks match my original sound file.

all of them seem to drift in and out of sync occasionally by about 5 frames in some places. fixable, but annoying and time consuming, however, the image has come out bloody marvellously. I'm really pleased with it. there are again one or two spots I might revisit and fix further. after all, if the sound needs rejigging anyway, I have the time. but we are soooo close I can almost taste it.

Star Wars DVD Covers
Time
oop typo, thanx for pointing that out. they ain't finished yet so I'll correct that. same goes for the stars.

I came up with the planet idea for a cover about 3 years ago. its been sitting in the back of my head since then. I mean everyone uses the actual movie posters and the planets are just that bit different. makes a nice change.

still not totally convinced about the crawl on the back cover but I'll prod it a bit more and see what I can do.

maybe I could make the crawl an insert or something?

that leaves the rear cover free for extras listing.

the way I see it, aside from my version of the 3 films

each film becomes a 2 disc set comes with a making of

so

ANH - Deleted Magic
ESB - Rebuilding Empire
ROTJ - Returning to Jedi

then

Empire of Dreams
Making of Star Wars
SFX
Creatures
+ my other 2 extras discs which contain the remaining material from the official release and the DE Laserdiscs

making a 10- 12 disc set in all. that makes me a nice spanning case box then to carry it all as well.

at 44% on mastering my full master avi file BTW

god*** now I'm getting pissed off.

today I've had to

rejig the entire opening crawl and star destroyer pass. sometime in the past I'd deleted one of the files of this segment and have today had to recomposite the sequence from scratch.

grrrrrrr

then, mos eisley threw up a glitch due to frame rate issues so taking what I've recently learned re the flypast, I've applied it to this area but this now means the audio is off and needs remastering for all 6 tracks.

frustration knows no limits
