team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)
Time

We are very happy with our restoration of the movie. And the quality of it will be better than the other current ones out there.

However, we have to be realists. People that see Harmy's version, and the Bluray will be seeing a lot more detail.

The movie NEVER looked like that in the theater.

The scope of our project is to approach that feeling of the original viewings, and that type of presentation.

With that in mind, that is why we are calling these 'Theatrical'. Anything more, or a different nature would be called something else.

Here are some frames where Han hits Boba Fett, which was changed in the SE, as described here:

That's right, all the comments about the Bluray having the most detail is correct.

No amount of interpolating or using multiple sources will put the detail back into it, despite the claims made.

On the other hand, for most cases the 1080p versions don't have more detail than the 720p on the Bluray as Harmy has shown.

We're never going to have that kind of detail from scans of prints.

We don't think it should be that hard to edit the video to fit to other Standards. It's just that we don't want to limit ourselves to an older format for it.

Granted, the GOUT probably has the most complete set of frames available though.

It would be nice to have other audio options, but since we are syncing it with the optical soundtrack from the 35mm, it might be harder to adjust later on.

The mono mix, 35mm stereo mix (English), and Spanish 35mm will be synced to it though.

I'm sure there will be attempts to edit the sound from other versions though.

Here are some shots from Reel 3, we might have posted them before.

There is a section where Ben is talking to Luke after they are burning the Jawas. On the original, there was a large anomaly, where a green area moved onto the screen and the back of the right hand side.

This part has been been patched as you can see in the video:

Again, it's still early to give updates, but as far as recent developments go.

============================

Reel 1 - Started, Intro / Crawl done + 5 min - 40% completion

Reel 2 - Completed First Pass

Reel 3 - Approaching 90% completion

Reel 4 - Approaching 50% completion  (Might be more).

Reel 5 - Completed First Pass

Reel 6 - Started, End Credits done +5 min - 40% completion

Those numbers where given are rough estimates only.

Reel 1, and Reel 6 are coming along quickly with added machines and another member working on them.

We also have some replacement shots lined up that will speed up certain segments.

The Greedo sequence has been replaced by a higher quality sequence.

Starfield shots, and some darker sequences are also for replacement.

Since there are different types of shots throughout the LPP, we will try to match the different ones without too much of disparity between them.

==============

We know that the amount of original film data is being altered by the cleaning, but almost all of it will be seamless, and unless you do a frame by frame comparison, it will not be noticeable.

Duplicate frames will be removed, and lost frames will replaced from other sources.

Again, we are not going to go by GOUT standards, or try to conform to it.

If people want to alter it afterwards, that will be up to them.

We'll continue posting progress on the clips, as we get them.

The Bluray is the most details source of the movie available so far. The 35mm LPP and other prints fall short of that many times over.

Just look at the sample clips, and compare them to the Bluray.

Some of us think the detail on the Bluray is great. It's the colors and other things that are wrong. But that's acceptable to many people.

Use your own judgement if you want to make a comparison.

No, we are still not done, but we do we have clips from these portions that are being completed.

We'll be updating the progress shortly.

Here is the completion of that segment:

What would help more, is someone doing it, or at least explaining the context and how to use the scripts.

Some of us have no idea what they are, or what to do with them.

Different team members have different skills, the one working on this, just did a quick conversion and assembly.

This was always meant to be a Grindhouse release, and we did mention the other issues with the scan.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?
Time

George Lucas and Fox had stipulations about Star Wars during the sale, hence the confusion with home releases (or non-release).

As mentioned many times.

Just because they have money, it still needs to be allocated.

http://furiousfanboys.com/2014/01/four-reasons-why-disney-cant-release-the-theatrical-cuts-of-star-warsyet/

Disney likes money, that is true, but in order to restore the Original Trilogy back to the theatrical cuts simply will cost too much based on the number of people who actually care about them.

You see, the “Han Shot First” crowd is a very vocal and noisy minority online. If the majority of Star Wars fans felt the way they do, the DVD and Blu-Ray releases of the Original Trilogy wouldn’t have sold as well. People didn’t vote with their wallets, they lined up to buy the movies on each re-release. Sure, some complained online about it…right before running out to Best Buy to pick up their $80 Blu-Ray set.

Even that recent, and stupid, “Dear JJ Abrams” video could only lure about 125k people to sign their petition. Disney isn’t going to spend multiple millions of dollars to produce a Blu-Ray set that only a few people actually truly care about.

If there is a rescan of the 8mm, we hope someone will do a proper release and fix the sound and frame issues, instead of just posting random scripts and complaining about them.

Or, they could work with the Raw files already posted. We don't have anymore time or resources currently. We welcome anyone taking initiative to release their version of Star Wars.

How are we supposed to use that script. There's not many comments, also, why not just run it for yourself and release it. We have no idea what it does, or how it works.

If you can do it, and save other people from the issues, we appreciate you pointing things out, but why not help others out by actually showing people, instead of just mentioning it.
