team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)
Time

For those that have recently joined, or have not followed our advances.

We mentioned this in some other previous replies. Since the project has started, we have gone through several hardware improvements, and also acquired more prints.

Currently, we have a 35mm Projector, and a Digital video camera, capable of capturing at 4k, in 24fps realtime.

All of our recents scans use this setup, and we have rescanned portions of earlier prints with it also, when needed.

We have a Dolby digital decoder for the sound, and are also looking into expanding to 70mm capture, and other future improvements.

We are mostly self-funded, but have had some donations for a brief period of time.

We have a lot of custom adjustments with the hardware, and have converted to mostly professional equipment since the time we first started.

"Poita No Return" - the EIAJ open-reel dub of SW Ep.IV
Time

We have done a conversion and fixed the EIAJ version to be more watchable.

Team Negative1 presents : Poitas EIAJ Star Wars Grindhouse Hybrid v1

===============================================

Continuing the lo-fi tradition of Star Wars releases.

We have taken the raw files, and converted them to a more watchable version:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Converted to greyscale

2 Deinterlaced

3 Noise reduced artifacts

In addition other changes have been made:

------------------------------------------

1 Cropping on sides

2 Resizing back to 720x480

3 Fixed audio issues to normalize sound

Details of improved version:

------------------------------------------------------------

Type        : Full frame pan and scan - Grayscale

File format : MP4 (AVC)

FIle size   : 3.7 G

Video       : 720x480

Framerate   : 29.97 fps

Audio       : mp3 192k 48k stereo english

Time        : 1hr59min:26sec

Overall, this version is softer, but the changes make it

a lot easier to watch, and the file size is also much smaller.

*UPDATE : In addition, several jumps, skips, and cut off clips have been replaced with CED equivalents.

We've posted numerous samples to give an idea of the quality to expect, so please look at those.

We can't compete with the IB Tech scans, because they will always have more detail.

Some parts of our print are very sharp and match up well. Other segments are being replaced with an Eastman print that is as sharp as the Tech but lacks color.

Overall, they are two very different versions, so we don't compare them.

Actually, you can have too much material. It takes up valuable space, and it is hard to organize several Terabytes of data, and distribute them.

Even with highspeed access, it still takes a long time.

We have a lot of unused prints, reels, etc, that won't be used, because they have been superseded. We try to preserve what we can.

But at some point, you have to cut the older stuff, and the things you won't use for practical reasons. We've seen prints of all 3 of the original trilogy and passed on them, because they were faded, missing reels, and other issues, where in the past we would have acquired them.

So, yes, you can have too much material.

The Blogs have been around for longer than these posts were, which started in 2012.

Our members have always known they will get early access. We welcome all fans, but we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for their support.

They've waited 4 years or longer, while some of you have just joined.

Everyone will see the work eventually.

Update: Reel 6 has been completed with it's first pass. This means around 95% of the movie has been cleaned.

We expect to be done with the rest by next month.

We have started looking into the integration of replacement scenes from an Eastman print. We are also checking on some improved scans of the LPP we have done.

1. The preview will be for everyone eventually. We are rewarding supporters first.

2. There have always been exclusive previews. Join up at AMPS at fanres.com for more information.

3. This preview is only for Reel 1. We are still assembling the workprint. Consideration for that will come later.
