Every Eastman print we'e seen is faded, and most have a lot of damage.

Even the IB Tech prints have a lot of damage.

LPP vs Tech is a philosophical debate. Both have different characteristics. Some will always prefer the merits of one over the other.

The LPP is the rarest, one of a kind print, as far as we know, and has some shots with better color retention, and more detail in many shots, compared to any other print.

There are shots in the LPP which contain more detail than the Bluray. Especially shots with smoke, explosions, and the battle scenes from Reel 6, which exhibit a lot of smearing.

Much like the Head of Reel 3 was an improvement from the previously posted clip:

Here is an update on the Bounty Hunter scene, you can see the original clip with damage comparison here:

Here is the newly updated clip, where some glue frames have also been cleaned along with further refinements:

This clip is 2min:30sec long, and shows the Star Destroyer chasing the Millenium Falcon. The starfields look great.

There is still some minor light specks.

Thanks for all the comments, and compliments.

In a few weeks, you'll be able to see about 40 minutes from the 2 reels (1 and 4), if there are more requests, we will post one final reel after that (Reel 3).

We'll see how it goes. We're not looking for suggestions or details on it. It will just be completed as is and released when we get around to it. Probably after Star Wars is done.

This is being done on the side by one of the members, so it's up to their schedule.

Here is some cleanup from the Head of Reel 3, where there is more dirt than usual compared to the rest of the Reel.

The clip is from the Color Corrected version of the Grindhouse release, and it might be adjusted later on.

If you compare a small section of the FUJI print here:

You will see that, the other Fuji print has better colors, but more grain, and more dirt currently.

We still have to decide how to integrate segments from the best parts of the previous print with the best one.

Unfortunately, this is a just a quick correction, we currently don't have time to allocate to a more thorough clean-up because we are concentrating on Star Wars.

Once you see the full reels, you will get a better idea. About 90% of the major dirt, dust and marks are cleaned up.

Here is another test scene with Darth Vader, there was a huge sequence with 4-5 frames of dirt covering 1/3 frame, and it seems to skip around the 26 second mark, along with some ghosting on the right hand side:

Again, we don't have a timetable, or release schedule for any of these clips, they are just tests.

Here are shots from the cleaned Reel 1, with Luke in the medical area:

NOTES:

============================

 - No further color correction done

- Still partially cropped

- Mostly dark dirt cleanup, still some light spots

- Glue frames were not cleaned

It's about 90% complete.

Depending on what people think, we will only be doing previews for Reels 1 and 4, and possibly 3.

We really don't have time to put up the rest currently.

All of these will be bundled with the Star Wars Reel 1 preview.

The current preview will also include, a higher quality encode of the darker scenes with R2D2 and the Jawa's.

4 Replacement shots:

----------------------------------------

- Flyover scene after intro (8 seconds)

- Ship being captured (9 seconds)

- Escape Pod scene (26 seconds)

- Star Destroyer (6 seconds)

The dark sequence with R2D2 is still being worked on.

================================

Also included will be Reels 1, and 4 of Empire Strikes Back, which are ready to be previewed.

We are still getting the Preview for Reel 1 with the replacement shots ready.

We will be sharing the current preview, and a better encoding of a dark sequence, along with a few replacement shots.

This will be bundled with the 2 Reel Preview of cleaned Grindhouse of Empire Strikes Back.

More details when we are ready to release them.

Continuing with the deleted scenes, Aunt Beru and the blue milk. This scene was pretty clean to begin with, though it did need some fine cleaning.

Team Negative1 - Return of the Jedi 1983 - 35mm Theatrical Version (unfinished project)
Time

We've been checking out our two current prints, and extra reels. We will be combining the best parts to make a preview cut.

There is still a lot of weave in them, and the colors are off. But the prints are mostly clean, so it won't take much time to do the cleaning on them.

This will be used to consider the master release version. We think one of the best will be all that is needed. We don't forsee much of a demand for a Grindhouse or other alternate ones, since this is the least requested movie of the trilogy, and possibly the least favorite.

We are busy with Star Wars, but will continue to work on the other prints in parallel using the resources we have. We hope to have the entire Original Trilogy preserved in the best manner possible.

It is possible that this might be completed before Empire Strikes Back. We shall see.

It's just a percentage of how much work on the cleaning is done:

Another update:

==============================

Reel 1 - 90% of first pass

Reel 2 - 50% of first pass

Reel 3 - 80% of first pass

Reel 4 - 90% of first pass

Reel 5 - 50% of first pass

Reel 6 - 50% of first pass

Once everthing's at 100%, we can work on assembling a good workprint for review, and then release.

The cleanup on the Grindhouse version continues:

==============================

Reel 1 - 80% of first pass

Reel 2 - 50% of first pass

Reel 3 - 50% of first pass

Reel 4 - 90% of first pass

Reel 5 - 50% of first pass

Reel 6 - 50% of first pass

We anticipate a new workprint for V2 in a few weeks, it won't look much like the Grindhouse with all the cleanup.

It will come out after we are done with Star Wars.

We're glad to get to this point also in the restoration. We know there will definitely be a private screening when the time comes.

Also, we should have the other 2 movies ready in preview versions, that would make a good marathon.

Details on the first screening of the Star Wars LPP:
