Was that really the first Death Star in ROTS?
Time
There aren't levels of canon. It's canon, or it's not canon. Now, I don't really care if the EU books are canon or not. I do admit that without those novels and comics, we wouldn't know the names of so many characters. I've read many of the comics, but I don't consider them canon. I don't think about what happened in them when I watch the movies. They're just fun reads. Let's step out of SW for a second, and consider others. All the Star Trek novels, for example (because I have such an extensive collection). There are some really great stories, but they're not going to change what happens in the show. They are stories that happen in the Star Trek universe, maybe even with familiar characters, but to me, they're just professional fan-fiction.

That's the same way I see the EU. Stories from the Star Wars universe. Professional Fan-Fiction. Next, you're going to tell me that what happens in Star Wars: Galaxies is canon.

Or maybe "supply issues and union troubles" could mean just that. With the brand new empire, there may have been suppliers who weren't all that enthused about the idea, and perhaps there were many union troubles. Call it "Galactic Empire Growing Pains". Just because it wasn't finished for 20 years doesn't mean it took 20 years to build. There could have been exhaustive strikes and the like, which Vader "took care of" during those 20 years. Who knows?

I know EU is canon, but I haven't read any of them, so frankly, they're not my canon.

Unlike you, though, most of us saw the old chimpanzee Emperor before we saw Ian, rather than the other way around, you having seen TPM first.

Your Favorite Star Wars Film
Time
You confused me there, Ingo, by putting them 1,2,3,6,4,5....I almost chose the wrong one.

My favourite is definitely ANH, my reason being it's complete on its own. You don't need to see the others. Now, I know that it was done that way because there was no assurance of a sequel, but I've always loved being able to watch that movie not just as part of a series, but as a film all on its own. I could watch that film over and over and never watch any others and I'd still be happy. Not to say that I don't love the other films, but they just all feel like I need to watch them all to get the one.

That, and I have it memorized.

Election Day.
Time
Oh, I thought I had written that there was a 5-year term limit (only once extended, in 1916), but I guess in my edits, I took it out. Thanks for mentioning that, Gundark. But, Gundark, recall that our previous election had been in Nov 2000, and then, just over three years later, in April 2004, Martin called for another. The five-year limit wasn't even close, but Martin felt that he should be elected, rather than just succeeding Chretien, and also thought there should be an election after the Auditor General's report.

And the latest we would possibly have an election is in the spring, as Martin has promised to call an election within 30 days of Gomery's final report, to be released in February.

For a really quick overview, the Wikipedia page on Politics in Canada is very concise. I recommend.

At the same time, is there really a good time to call an election in Canada? It would be easier if we had regularly scheduled elections like the Americans do; that way, a ruling party could not call an election whenever the members felt like it, and people would be forewarned and adjust their schedules accordingly.

You don't have a regularly scheduled election? How do you elections work?

Pretty much exactly the way Gundark said it. A party tries to call an election when it feels it would be in that party's best interest. Usually, one party holds a majority of the seats in the government, so they pretty much hold the election when they feel the polls suggest they would win (within reason, of course...each term being three to five years).

In the last election (last spring), however, the Liberals, who held a majority government from 1993-2004 (four terms) were held to a minority position, where they had the most seats, but not a majority of the seats. Since then, they've been making alliances to get one party or another to vote with them so that they can form a majority. Now, after revelations of corruption during the Liberal reign of the 90's, the three opposition parties are looking to pass a vote of non-confidence in the government and force an election. Now, whether that election happens in December or February or April depends on what the leaders of the three parties decide. One of the big "no-no's" is a Christmas election, because the primary view is that the public wouldn't want that, so whoever calls a Christmas vote would fall in the polls.

I hope I didn't make that too confusing. I'll be honest, I left out a lot of stuff that you "should" know if you wanted to know the whole story. Canadian politics is so hard to follow, but it sure makes one amazing soap opera!

To sum it up, our elections happen when the government thinks it can win.

If you do want to know more, Warbler, I'm more than willing to try to oblige.

Watching in order 1-6 is screwing up the original SW for newcomers!

But the Emperor is never given a name in the OT. He's just "The Emperor", not Palpatine. So, I guess one could be fooled the whole time, but it would be pretty difficult. I still haven't watched the six films in chronological order, mostly because I don't want to bother with 1 and 2, but I think I might this weekend just to see what revelations arise.

AWK, I had no idea you took such an interest in Canadian politics. Personally, I don't think a Christmas election (or January election, whcich would mean campaigning over Christmas) would work in anyone's favour. I think the Conservatives want to campaign through Christmas about as much as we want them to be campaigning through Christmas. So help me, God, if Jim Pankiw comes to my door campaigning Christmas morn, I will shoot him. I am not a violent man, but I will shoot him.

Star Wars DVD Covers

But what I meant by Super Jewel Boxes was the kind of box from this site. I needed some from them anyway for my Advent Children fan edit (since the official AC came in a case like that), and was wondering if anyone had tried to use them for a Star Wars design.

And what I meant was that, yes, I have, but I put them on a CD and won't be able to access them until I get home.

Actually, I have. Well, I never finished them to my liking, and I put them on a CD somewhere to back them up. I'll look for them when I get home this weekend
