The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)
Time

Harloff has been mentioning / speculating Kenobi as the “next-in-line” for a stand-alone movie for quite some time. Now he better start mentioning a Netflix series about the Old Republic every week and we’ll get one in no time!

Haven’t most people been mentioning it as next in line? I’ve not heard anyone seriously mention anything other than an Obi-Wan movie, except for the madmen that are clamoring for Boba Fett movie.

Also, why a Netflix series?

I just watched TNG S7E13 “Homeward” and Worf dealing with his human brother was more interesting to me than anything he’s ever done with the rest of the Klingons.

Is that the one with a planet whose atmosphere is dissipating and Picard won’t do crap to save the inhabitants because Prime Directive? Kirk would have found a way. 😉

Yes it is, and yes he would have.

I never imagined Isaacs would hold back, this is great. He’s not wrong, people are complaining about the stitching on the uniforms before ever seeing an episode. And calling “Orville” the true successor to Trek? Let’s see how many dick jokes MacFarlane can fit into the pilot first.

I’ve done my fair share of complaining and nitpicking, but I agree with the general sentiment here, at least with the latter part.

I tend to stay out of this thread, and political discussion in general. Not that I’m apathetic, I’m just not very comfortable in my opinions and am often genuinely scared of being wrong. Not today though. The president says that “some” people who are/ally themselves with white supremacists are “fine people.” I don’t say things like this often, but this is utter bullshit.

*Some activities, such as homecoming court voting, are still bafflingly segregated.

at a public school? I can’t believe that is allowed. If it was, someone would sued it out of existence a long time ago.

No one has tried to sue.

Why? Where is the NAACP on this? This sounds like it would be an open and shut of case of discrimination.

Last I heard, local NAACP chapter is too busy trying to to get a street renamed after MLK (it already has an “honorary name” but I think they want a real name change? idk). Anyway, they don’t seem too worried about it right now.

Has school district made any argument as to how this is not a violation of the Constitution?

Current policy is to have everyone vote on both a Minority ballot and Majority ballot, alternating years between which winner is actually the homecoming queen regardless of who actually got more votes. There’s been no mention of the constitution, but this is the defense the board secretary offered last year:

"Either we do it how we’re doing it and that ensures that everybody is happy or we go to the student body electing whomever they want to be the queen and that could be a white girl every year,”

which shows a complete lack of faith in us students, who have been calling for change for years, so it seems that probably wouldn’t be the case.

No one has tried to sue. A petition was brought to the school board last year, but I don’t think it went anywhere. If nothing’s changed this year, I’ll try to organize a boycott of the vote. I’d link to some articles about it, but I don’t feel like giving away my exact location.

(many southern schools are still segregated, for the most part – the white kids just switched to private schools).

Interesting. I thought the consensus was that northern, more urban schools were actually more segregated than the southern ones.

I live in the south and I’d say that the schools are fairly well integrated. But I’m just one dummy on the Internet.

I’m a southerner currently in high school (my senior year begins tomorrow) and my school is pretty integrated*, but I have friends all over the state whose schools have very few minorities at all. Then again, my town might just have more minorities than theirs, idk.

Koyaanisqatsi (1983) dir. Godfrey Reggio

Why yes, I did just watch this less than two months ago. Difference is then was in an auditorium full of 400 loud teenagers in incredibly sqeaky chairs watching a DVD, and this time was in the solitude of my bedroom watching Criterion’s Blu Ray. Needless to say, these were vastly different viewing experiences.

This film is hypnotic, beautiful, and a bit unnerving. I love it.

This is the kind of thing I always talk about. No one wants to admit they’re wrong, no one likes to be less than perfect.

Everybody has biases. This is just true. The sooner we can all recognize that the sooner we can move forward. Everybody does or says things that could be considered racist. Whether that makes them a “racist” or not is just semantics. Personally, I’d say no, but getting caught up on the word is just missing the point.

The left saying that everybody can be racist doesn’t make them assholes, it just means they’re willing to put aside pride to expose a deeper, challenging truth. It doesn’t make them self righteous, it just makes them people who want to try to be better.

The left doesn’t claim that everyone can be racist. That is not even disputable. Of course a human can be racist.

The issue is when the left condemns all white people of a collective predujice based upon their race. That is racism. And white people who “admit” to their sins are not trying to improve. It’s pointless virtue signaling. And that’s the foundation of so many leftists counter arguments. “You just don’t care about poor people!” “You just don’t care about black people!”

It’s all a competition to see who can be more “accepting” and “culturally sensitive”.

Only the loud, stupidest voices are doing that (the real goal is much more nuanced and much more pervasive. We are all capable of racism, and, whether we’d like to admit it or not, we are all racist to some extent at some point or another).

To say that this is what the left is doing is to essentially commit the same sin of oversimplification, generalization, and vilification that you are accusing them of.

That’s why I make a distinction between classical liberals and the left. The loud stupid ones are of the left. I appreciate people like you who are reasonable about their ideas and don’t want to repress speech.

I’m sorry if you thought I was associating you with the left, it was not my intention.

So… what am I?

I guess your nothing according to your post concerning labels.

That’s the goal.
