I remember many fragments of many dreams of last night:

I lived in a strange game that tried to kill me. It had a cool, mostly blue aesthetic, except for one starcase that glowed yellow. I went up it once or twice. There, I joined a secret revolutionary communist group.

One girl was excommunicated from my school’s band by our director for “criminal” behavior. Stories varied, but the most popular was that she texted a transgender guy who moved away to California, asking for some type of pornography.

Old Gods created the world, and when they tried to reset it, Amazons and New Gods fought them. The New God Orion flew with his astro harness and fired beams at the Old Gods, as did the Amazons who piloted large, broze discs.

I saw graham cracker houses destroyed and thrown away.

I was in the elementary school auditorium. Myself and most of the rest of the students from the high school sat in there. Then, we were joined by lines of primary school students, joined by my sister, who failed high school so bad she reverted back to kindergarten. They were in two lines. The furthest from me was a modest line of kids who did not play sports, who I called “the good students.” The next line was a legion of more athletically inclined "bad students.“
A coach stood in front of us all and gave the Perritt students strange commands, which they followed. I remember only one, “Salad Snake”, which was a command to them to lie on the ground and form a shape of a giant snake. Then he commanded it of us high school students, and we had to obey.
After a while, some of us were dismissed. I opened my school-issued MacBook and found that the clock was acting strangely. The time did not move at a normal rate, but instead several minutes per second. I remember it being sometime past 10:00 PM and getting later quickly. Then, the digital clock on the screen turned into an image of a large analog clockface with roman numerals, moving at the same high speed.

I began watching something that seemed to be a nonexistent workprint of an unfinished Tarkovsky film.

I opened a Bible and found it all to have been changed by some grand, conspiratorial force. Then, letters constantly shifted on their own to spell POPE, among many other things I cannot remember. Then, a I heard a voice that misquoted Romans 2:8 as being about popes and saints that live forever. The real verse Romans 2:8 says “But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,” which I was not aware of until after I woke up and searched for the verse myself.
I wonder if that dream was given to me by God himself as some kind of warning against my own wickedness.
Also, the altered Bible reminded me of segments of the film Metropolis, with the robot as the whore of Babylon, but I remember not why, for nothing of that Biblical passage, nor of the film, was mentioned.

I haven’t heard anything about that, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I took a picture of a page in the 70s treasury edition issue vs the reprint and yeah, I see what you mean about the recoloring. Not just the coloring itself, but there are actual mistakes in the recoloring. Please excuse my poor photography:

The corridor visable above Han’s left arm is yellow in the reprint, and, less obviously, there’s less shading on R2 than the older issue. These are both reprints, but I assume the much older treasury size reprint issue is closer to the look of the original issue #5.

I have a big treasury size issue containing the latter half of the film adaptation, and I never even thought to compare it to my trade. I’m going to do that right now and see how bad the recoloring is.

I’m too young to have grown up with those old comics, but I do have two recent trade paperbacks that collect everything from the first film adaptation to just before Empire, and I’m a fan.

Eh, I dunno. I tried reading those comics a while back and they were just really lame. I reckon the Dark Horse comics absolutely blew these old Marvel comics out of the water, and the new line of Marvel comics are also way better. Those old comics don’t feel like Star Wars and just aren’t my thing.

I tend to think adaptations (like Potter) exist in seperate universes from the books they come from, and neither the books nor movies take precedence because they’re seperate. Otherwise Blade Runner wouldn’t exist to me 😛

Canon is messy. With Star Wars, for example, I see the original film, and then tons of different story branches going out from it in different directions. Sometimes they cross at other movies, sometimes they drift off into the EU before tapering off into nothing, or fly off into my imagination. There is no set canon universe(s). Trek, on the other hand, has infinite headcanon universes that range from encompassing every piece of Trek media I’ve ever consumed, to being fairly empty, and anything in between. Why do I compartmentalize fictional universes in my head like this? I have no idea. I just… do, I guess.

Episode IX: Kylo’s Blue Monday

There is no set number. They could make 10 movies I hate, but if I like a certain director or something, I’ll be back. Also, even if the movies devolve into complete crap, there will still be books, comics, etc. that don’t have to stick exactly to he events of the movies, so I’m okay with whatever.

I’d put Sicario below BR2049 and Arrival, but perhaps my opinion of it isn’t as high because I wasn’t able to watch it in one, uninterrupted sitting. I rewatched both Arrival and BR2049 this week, and I think I like the latter more now. I used to think Arrival was a perfect film, but I came to realize that it fundamentally misunderstands Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. They are all fantastic films, though. I have yet to see Prisoners or Enemy, but I’m sure the same applies to them, and Villeneuve’s past work (and future Dune adaptation).

I cannot wait for his take on Dune. He is on a sci fi roll right now.

I’ll be crushed if his Dune ends up not happening. My favorite working director making an adaptation of my favorite novel? Sign me the fuck up.

It should happen. He’s turned down other projects so he can focus on Dune.
