It did actually. It defended him and showed the white-trash Roseanne character accepting him. Either way, I don’t care if a show is progressive or not. I’m opposed to cancelling them because of stupid shit said by the stupid people behind the show. I was even opposed to cancelling Laura Ingraham for the same reason. Even though she actually is a propaganda outlet, it sets a precedent that anything associated with anything offensive needs to get cancelled which can only lead to two outcomes: safer entertainment or entertainment produced by safer people, both of which suck shit.

I’ll try to get to your other stuff, but hey we agree on this. Increasingly there are stories of the major internet companies cutting off ad revenue to people (particularly on the right). It’s a dangerous level of sensitivity by people with enormous power.

These seem like two very different issues to me, but perhaps I misread.

But then the show, by definition, was safe, as it was an outlet made, at least in part, to defend the establishment.

I think I was the only person who laughed outloud at Lando’s “Mining colonies are the worst” line. Even my brother thought I was nuts.

My theater loved that one. Actually I almost missed the humor of that but the reaction keyed me into the joke.

Oddly enough there also seemed to be a lot of hardcore EU fans at my screening, some of the references got a couple gasps.

Teras Kasi made me laugh, but if we’re gonna reference bad video games, I want a Gambino cover of the Solo song from the awful Star Wars Kinect Xbox game. 😤

Han……………SOLO: A Star Wars Story - 5/10

Thought it dragged more than it should, and often felt to me like a checklist of questions that had to be answered even though no one asked them? Like, I’m not complaining “durr the movie was unnecessary” because I could say that about a lot of movies, it just didn’t seem like they did anything very interesting with what they had. I’m glad many of you seem to like it so much.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - 7/10

Haven’t watched this in years. It mostly holds up, even if I think the protagonist goes too crazy (like, throwing all the stuff in the window and refusing to answer his family’s justified fear with anything beyond "I’m not crazy!).

Oh, okay.

Don’t get why them being women is relevant at all though.

It’s relevant to the history of the trope, as it’s typically women dying to advance the man plot/character arc. Val died so Woody could… punch Han I guess? And L3 died so they could cannibalize her for parts.

And plenty of men die in the film to advance the plot and character arcs as well?

Hell, Dryden - the main villain - (a man) dies to advance the character arc of Qi’ra (a woman).

Fair.

You’re also forgetting that Rio died in the very same scene as Val. Rio is a man.
What are you even on about?

Lol, honestly forgot about that guy. Movie dragged.

It’s not a gender issue at all, there’s no need to make it one.

It just seemed to be a step back after the steps forward from the previous movies. I don’t mean to say that the writers are actively sexist or anything, I just thought it was… well idk what word I’m looking for.

I think you’ve missed the point of both deaths by a wide mark, but I’ll let someone else explain. It’s too tiring.

That’s fair.
