Knights of the Old Republic
Time
1. PC version, with some patching, is no doubt better than Xbox version (wasn't to crazy about the "run-everywhere-unless-you-wear-a-stealth-belt" deal).

2. I think my reaction to the *surprise* was about the same as Darth Chaltab, although perhaps excluding the "I'm going to kill Bastila" thing.

3. Playing time: Of the 5 games I've played, the first 4 were anywhere from 33-37 hours to finish. The last was well under, more like 25-26 hours.

4. If you want a decent change, play a melee-less game. I did that for my last game. Beating Malak wasn't too bad. I threw on Jedi Robes so I could 'feed' just as he did, and used Advanced Energy Resistance to survive most of his attacks.
I played as a Scout/Sentinel that game...or was it a Scoundrel/Sentinel...I know I use Sentinel because I wanted to Force Immunities.

The Holiday Special "first edition"?

However, I wouldn't say that they "created" him. Lucas probably told them to include this guy that his staff conceived complete with tech specs. Much like how GL told Tartakofsky (sp?) that they needed to include his character Asajj Ventress in the animated Clone Wars series. The CL creators did not create Asajj, they just introduced her.

But they had Bobba Fett all planned by 1978?

Boba Fett was planned out by 1977. He was supposed to be in ANH, but the footage was cut. Remember the 'Irish Jabba'?

The footage was later restored and modified for the SE release.

The way I look at it is this:
Wielding a lightsaber is similar to wielding a sword. (The difference is in the balance of the weapon. The Lightsaber's blade has no weight to it).
Anyone can "use" a lightsaber. Hey, anyone can probably fight with a lightsaber, provided their target was either inanimate, motionless, or at the most, non-force sensitive. Even then, they run the risk of hurting themselves as much, if not more than their target.
A trained Jedi with a lightsaber, though, will cut a non-force sensitive down in a heartbeat.

To effectively use a lightsaber, it takes precise movement and timing. The Force allows Jedi to have that precision, and fight with a high level of speed. I think we saw this in the Maul duel in the end of EP1.

Along the same lines, a droid with the proper programming, motor system, actuators, etc. would be able to have precise movement, timing and high speed.

Summary: I do not see the Force as a prerequisite for using a lightsaber. But having the Force (or cybornetically enhanced speed and timing) would allow one to excel with it.

actually, the darth maul fight was great but they should have left it with that.

SPOILER...SPOILER
I thought I had read somewhere that Grivious' forearms can split at the elbow, giving him 4 forearms and 4 hands. I could be wrong about what I read, or the rumor could be wrong itself.
If it is correct, a 4 saber fight would not be out of the realm of possibility.

Seems appropriate.
Precisely what I thought. The book is called 'The Bathroom Book' or something like that.
Its full of random facts, everything from a couple pages about Star Wars, to the invention of the toilet.

This seems to have gotten somewhat off topic.

But then, as the title says "He no longer Cares".

I guess I'm the oddball this time. Except for an occasional chuckle when a modern song popped into the movie, I couldn't stand Moulin Rouge. That's just not my kind of movie.

Now, if THE man, Lepetoman(sp?), had been in it, I might have enjoyed it a little more. If you want to know who that is, just ask, but its off topic, and I'll talk about it in the Non-Star Wars forum at the bottom of the forum index.

State Test
Time
Back on the original topic of the thread:

I have not yet taken the test, but will soon. I started loading it, and say the reference to this being from 3rd grade.
( I will post my score once I've taken the test).

What third grade was this person part of??

I didn't do the states until 4th grade...but I was required to learn state capitals AND abbreviations as well.
We did about 1/3 the country at a rate of 2 states per week, then we upped it to 5 states per week.
Tests were weekly, and cumulative.

I love that movie, and was very happy with the DVD.

There are some movies where it doesn't really matter.
Indeed there are.

Go get the movie The Sting. I don't think they even offer pan-and-scan vs. widescreen. My parents bought it on DVD, and we almost sent it back, because we wanted to widescreen version.
Turns out it was filmed in 4:3, or something close to it.

Star Wars Pan Scan

When the first edition of SE came out, I bought 1 of the only 3 copies my local Blockbuster got. That is how much some people (back then) felt about widescreen vs. pan-and-scan.

Quote

Seems a lot of it is still just about money, imho.
Bingo!!!
Ding-ding-ding, give this man a cookie.

Some people DON'T like widescreen (I have yet to meet any myself). By not releasing it in pan-and-scan, you've just limited your potential number of buyers, reducing the amount of money you get make off the sale.

I feel that so long as all of us have copies of the original and SE movies, your statement will not be true.

That's like saying that the current nickel is the only version of the nickel. Its not. The buffalo nickel still exists, even if they are not in circulation.

Changes in 2004 DVDs
Time
I was taking German when Schindler's List came out.
My teacher arranged for all the students taking German to watch it in the school's massive auditorium (bigger than any theater I've been in).
Then we were tested on it.

Jimbo,
Do you understand the concept of symbolism?
That movie is filled from top to bottom with symbolism.

Now, I must be honest and say I do not remember how I answered on the test I took, that was a long time ago, but if I had to guess, based on what I remember of the movie, the use of B&W was to show the polarizing effect on Europe created by the Nazi regime. The little girl in red was a symbol of hope for the future, that the polarization could be undone.

If someone colorized this movie, it would remove that symbolism. It would destroy the full intent of the film. Unlike the Florida voter of 2000, Steven Spielberg's intent is not up for debate. He knew precisely what he was doing, and why.

I will admit that I have also never seen Citizen Kane. But I have seen Casablanca.

What other classics of cinema have you never seen?
Sound of Music??
Gone with the Wind??
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum?? (That's a comic element called a triple for those of you that didn't notice...)
Ben Hur (the Heston version)??

How can you say what is good for Star Wars, if you have not experienced real films?
Next thing I know, you'll probably be telling me that Haunted Honeymoon was a masterpiece and that Dom DeLuise in drag simply brought the movie down.

IMHO, THE BOX LOOKS FANTASTIC. I'M INTERESTED IN SEEING THE INDIVIDUAL CASE COVERS. RIGHT NOW ONLY HYPERSPACE MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO SEE THE IMAGES, BUT AS MOTTI'S LINK SHOWS THESE IMAGES HAVE BEEN LEAKED. THE OFFICIAL PUBLIC DEBUT OF THE IMAGES WILL HIT IN A WEEK.
Leak is not quite the right word for what was done.
They released the stuff on their Hyperspace, and some member with half a brain saved the file and posted it somewhere else.

If I was a member, I would have done the same thing.

Regardless, I agree, I think the cover looks great. The Vader mask looks more like a concept image, I've seen something like it in pencil drawings on my Behind the Magic CD.
The other half is from one of the movie posters (there were 2 styles like that...this is the non-Hildebrandt one).

Its not down for maintenance, I know that.

What I have been told, is that this happens to some people. The only recommendation I was given, at this point, is to try another browser.
Mozilla and Opera were both mentioned by name. I suppose Firefox would be another option as well.

Personally, I'm an Opera user, except for when I'm at work (like right now), and I recommend it highly.
It has a lot of nice features not found in IE (the selective popup blocker might be my favorite).
