I've still got mine. Its all smashed because out how much I hit with it, but it still whistles. I actually wore the handle to the 12:01 AM Phantom Menace showing I attended.

Discussion: Probably the coolest vintage that didn't get made
Time

I was browsing around www.toyrgus.com a few minutes ago, and I found something really nice.

Somehow, someone got their hands on a “1985-1986 Line Extention Binder”. Basically, its a binder full of concept drawings and toy mockups that Kenner wanted to build, but wasn’t able to.

I found one that looks like a really nice concept.
Falcon Cargo Handler
Its called the Millennium Falcon Cargo Hauler. Basically, its a small ship that slides into the forward mandibles of the YT-1300 design. I think its a nice concept, and I wish they could have released it.

Boba Fett was new??
I'm not sure, but I don't think that is right. I'll have to do a little checking.
What I do know now, is this:

There was a Boba Fett action figure released pre-ESB.

My assumption was that:
It was initially made because he "appeared" in A New Hope. The release of the action figure was delayed then because the footage was cut.
Then, presumably when ESB was announced, they started to release the figure, with a little addition to the packaging, saying he was a "new character in Empire Strikes Back".

based on science theory...

I have to run over that in my head several times...

Perhaps that should be cleared up.
IF the world's currents stopped, then I agree that stuff could happen.
But, from what I've read, the world's current's couldn't stop unless the world stopped spinning or the wind system died. And I think if the world stops spinning, we have more to worry about than a little bad weather.

I'd also like to enlighten anyone that might not know...
Who are the author's of that book?
Art Bell and Whitney Strieber.

One of Whitney's other books is called Communion and says that he was told by aliens about Earth's apocalypse.

Troy
Time
I have not seen the movie.

But, my father, sister and brother went to see the movie on its opening weekend. Both my brother and sister take Latin in school, and their teacher had an informal Saturday field trip. My dad went because my brother is under 18.

Anyways, my dad said that the one thing that stuck out for him as an absolutely blatent display of idiocy was a scene of a sunrise.

If you know ANYTHING about geography, you should know that Troy was on the Western coast of what is now Turkey. When the Greeks sailed, they had to sail East. When they landed, they would have been to the West of the city.

BUT, in at least one scene, the sun rose behind the landed Greek ships.
The Sun rose in the West???

Now, some movie mistakes I can understand, but what kind of morons would you need to be to make this kind of mistake??

If he's talking about G'Kar (spotted head, reddish face, pronounced chin, sunk-in eyes), they story behind that could be that the episode you saw was after he had lost his eye.

G'Kar was captured, and had an eye put out. When he was rescued, an electronic eye was put in place, but the only one's available at the time were in a human-blue color. He spent a few episodes with one red and one blue eye while he waited for a new eye that would match.

Hasbro is releasing a series of “vintage” figures. When I first heard about it, I was quite happy, because I liked the simplicity of the original figures.

But now I see what they are doing.
The figures are NOT vintage.
The packaging is!! The figures look like new figures (complete with male figures with bulging muscles), but they are on vintage style cards.

Is nothing sacred?? Can nothing stay the same??

What do you think?

They do insist that, but I don't see how they can create a 3rd development area.

I think that the DS is the successor to the GBA, but they will continue GBA game development for a while after the DS is released.
1. The GBA is a nice platform, no need to dump it already. How long did the original last before it was replaced outright by the Game Boy Color?
2. Since the DS is backwards compatible, the DS owners are left out of the new GBA games.

A Message From the President of the United States

President Bill Clinton.....Darrell Hammond

President Bill Clinton: America.. I come before you tonight to thank you for re-electing me. I know half of you didn't vote. But of the half of you that did.. almost half voted for me. And I appreciate that overwhelming show of support. 49% of the less than 50% of you who voted said Yes to Bill Clinton! [ chuckles ] That kind of ground swell tells me I'm on the right track! Less than half of the less than half of the people who voted.. stood up and demanded.. four.. more.. years. That means 1 ot of every 4 of you are.. helping me build that bridge into the next century. And I than every fourth one of you for your unanimous support!

But, actually, when you think about it.. it's not really every 1 out of 4 Americans. because there's, you know, another 30% of you out there who aren't old enough to vote! [ laughs ] But, still.. I am thri-illed by the hu-u-uge support I was given by the half of the half of the remaining 70% of you! Because that is still a whopping 17% of you who enthusiastically supported Bill Clinton! And that is.. [ getting emotional ] ..just really beautiful.. [ chuckles ]

And sure, to be honest, Arkansas shouldn't really count, because that's my home state, and you have to subttract me and Hillary.. I mean, because, obviously, we voted for me.. And, of course, you should take out anyone who depends on my administration for a job. But, still.. that makes 12% of the population who actively wanted me to be re-elected! Truly, that is a mandate from the people!

Then again.. you really can't count women, because who are they gonna vote for? Bob Dole? [ laughs ] Yeah! That's just silly! Anyway, that cuts the number in half, making it 6%. And then after taking into account people who are incarcerated, the number drops to 4% - an overwhelming 4% of you standing proud and saying "Bill Clinton, we want you back!"

Then.. subtracting voter error, voter fraud, mechanical error, people who are abroad, people who are hospitalized or unconcious while the polls were open, and our brave men and women in space.. that makes the total number of people who honestly and actively wanted me to be President of the United States.. onw guy - Steve Bilson.

[ show image of the loserly Steve Bilson ]

Steve, I-I appreciate your support.. and I'm gonna send you this White House ashtray as a token of my gratitude! [ laughs as he holds up the ashtray ] I mean, it doesn't say "White House" on it, but trust me.. it's from the White House! So, once again, America - I mean, Steve - thank you. And God bless you all!

[ dissolve to Presidential Seal ]

Announcer: This has been a message from the President of the United States.
That should accurately illustrate the American system.

Polling and Election Paradox

Quote

The US Constitution prescribes a way to elect the President of the US:

The executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his office during the term of four years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same term, be elected, as follows:
Each state shall appoint, in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a number of electors, equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or person holding an office of trust or profit under the United States, shall be appointed an elector. [...]

The electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, ... and transmit sealed to the ... President of the Senate [who] shall, ... open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;--the person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed... (Article 1, Section 1 and Ammendment 12, italics are mine)

Basically, what this says is that the voters do not decide who will be President, this body of electors, chosen from each state, decides who the next President will be. We merely vote on the electors themselves. This system was designed so that elections would be run by the states themselves, and not by the federal government.

Bossk,
The GBA connectivity works for 2 Zelda games:

1. In The Wind Waker, you can acquire a device (looks like a GBA) and if you connect the GBA, you are able to call and use a little annoying character named Tingle (seen in Majora's Mask, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons). One of his several abilities, is that he can drop bombs in hard to reach places for you.

2. Soon to be released: Gamecube 4 Swords game.
In 4 Swords, you've got a multi-player setup. When one player walks off to a different room as the other players, his screen switches to the GBA. This way, no one can see what's going on in that room.

sean,
I have heard of them, but I have never actually seen/played them.
If I remember my console history correctly, the CD-I games were a joint venture. Nintendo wanted to start with CD games, but didn't have the knowhow to develop. The originally contacted Sony, but then turned their back on them (then Sony went it alone, and we all know the result). Nintendo then contacted Phillips, and the CD-I games were born. It was short lived though.

I just have no desire to spend money on a whole new VG system for a single game. Ticks me off.
What to know what else is on that disk, though??
The original Star Wars arcade game in all its line-art beauty.

I'm not much for going to theaters to see movies... Saw ROTK in the theaters, and before that EP2 was the last theater experience I had.

My brother, sister and dad went to Troy yesterday though.

Not only does it have its historic inaccuracies, but apparently the people that made it don't know that the sun rises in the East (or doesn't know where Troy was located).

Its not necessarily because he is a democrat.

He's a drip of a person. There is no enthusiam in the guy (believe it or not, Lieberman was the exciting member of his team. That says a lot).
He out-and-out lied and/or flip-flopped about a number of things before and during his own campaign (remember...he invented the Internet)
He was not the brightest bulb in the package, as heard in this this audio clip.

Plenty of people understand that there are more than 2 parties. If there weren't people that understood that, Bush 41 would have won a second term. Enough voters were taken from Bush by Perot and his Reform party that Clinton won.
