Typically, they look at your high school grades and one of 2 national tests that most high schoolers take...the SAT or the ACT.
I believe more emphasis is put on the national test score.

Once you get accepted, they usually have placement exams to determine what classes you should take. (At my university, I had to take an English exam and a Math exam).

William Hootkins - His time was short... especially on the SW screen
Time
I spotted him on Remington Steele a couple weeks ago (family tradition...Sunday nights we watch a couple episodes of one of the TV shows we have on DVD...like Dick Van Dyke, Flying Circus, Remington Steele and yesterday in the mail we got seasons 1 of both Alfred Hichcock Presents and the Muppet Show). He was a bank exec.

The episode was called "Vintage Steele".

Time

Only 58. That’s horrible.

from tf.n:

Whatsonstage.com reports that William Hootkins (AKA: Porkins) has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 58.

Here’s a snipet from Whatsonstage.com:

American stage and screen actor William Hootkins - who lived and worked for many years in the UK and was last seen on the London stage in Hitchcock Blonde - has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Diagnosed earlier this year, he died yesterday (Sunday 23 October 2005) at St Johns Hospital in Santa Monica near his Californian home. He was 58.

Born in Dallas, Texas on 5 July 1948, the ebullient Hootkins – known as Bill or ‘Hoot’ to his friends - made his stage debut in a local school production that co-starred a fellow student who later had success in Hollywood, Tommy Lee Jones. He initially tried to distance himself from drama by studying astrophysics and Chinese linguistics at Princeton University, but soon became involved with Princeton’s Intime Theatre group. On the recommendation of his friend, John Lithgow, he moved to the UK after graduation to study at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) and subsequently made his home in this country.

In a busy career, Hootkins worked regularly on both sides of the Atlantic. His first film role was in 1977, playing Jedi fighter Jek Porkins in George Lucas’ Star Wars. Though the part was small, it had a big impact. He joked in a Whatsonstage.com interview two years ago (See 20 Questions, 28 Jul 2003): “In a sense, my career’s been downhill ever since. Fans still come to greet me at the stage door with action figures of my character and embarrassing photographs for me to sign.”

Things that Scared You as a Kid
Time
At the age of maybe 4 or 5, I saw ET. Where should I begin:
- The beginning, with ET running through the brush, screeching, as he's being chased.
- ET face down in a ditch.
- The quarantine scenes when ET "dies".

Ric,
I felt about the same when I first saw Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

That's about all I remember being scared by. I don't seem to get "scared" anymore, but I do get startled.
Ex. In Jurassic park, at the very end when Grant, Ellie and the kids have raptors on either side of them in the Visitor's Center and suddently the T.Rex jumps into the scene and grabs one of the raptors, that made me jump in my seat.

Scrappy at least opened the world up to real paranormal worlds once the logics (Fred, Daphne, and Velma) were gone, and even once Daphne came back. I was a pretty big fan of The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo. It had more of a storyline, and Vincent Price kicked so much ass. Don't get me wrong. I loved the original concept too, but I really have no problem with Scrappy.

That said, I thought the reasoning behind the hatred was extremely funny! As far as the thing about the original cast being smart to run away while Scrappy was retarded... well, they should realize by now that the evil goblin or the creeper or the ghost of Sherlock Holmes is a guy in a mask by now, so I think they're pretty stupid for running, actually.

By the way, post #800!
I think the real problem people have with Scrappy was that his voice was annoying, his catchphrases were abysmal and he had to have been the stupidest character on the show (For goodness sakes, he had to have been blind to think that "Uncle" Scooby was brave in any way shape or form).
In my opinion, the only character on the entire run of that show that could be considered worse than Scrappy, was that kid...Flim-Flam(?) from Thirteen Ghosts.
(If you include the Young Scooby Mysteries, the yound Freddie was horrible too.)

Thought I'd share this little diddy I saw at a Packers-related Message Board:

Come sit right back and you will hear
A tale of a fateful trip
that started from a small lake town
abroad two tiny ships
The mates were a bunch of pole dancers
but the waitstaff was too pure
The Vikings team set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.
the action started getting hot
the dancers strutted their stuff
If not for the prudes in the fearless crew
there wouldn't have been such a huff
the boats turned around and went back home
the authorities came aboard
but fear not friend, cause all not lost
the Vikings finally scored.

If George had only changed Special effects for the SE and DVD, would people have complained as much?
Time
I detest:
- Han Shot First (and I have the PvP T-Shirt to prove it)
- Replacing Sebastian Shaw
- 97 Jabba scene
- Redone ROTJ ending
- Changing Boba Fett's voice (why doesn't George just change the credits to say Morrison instead of Bulloch...Half the time it was Bulloch anyways, so what difference does it make.)

I do not like, but tolerate:
- 03 Jabba scene (at least Jabba looks better)
- Jedi Rocks

Indifferent:
- Approach into Mos Eisley
- New Emperor in ESB (BUT I do NOT like the changed lines. Return the lines to how they were and it would be alright)

Approve:
- CGI upgrades to most of the Special Effects (I don't think I could handle the original Jabba's palace song with the new CGI Sy Snootles).
- Biggs scene (ever since I was a little kid it bothered me. Luke just arrives on Yavin 4, he's thrust into a combat situation fairly quickly, but he's comfortable with this other pilot that he "just met", calling him by his first name and everything. Adding the Biggs scene gives us a tiny intro so we know why. Beyond that, I wouldn't mind it if Lucas reintegrated the scenes with Biggs at the beginning of the movie.)

Viqueens? I didn' t know there was an NFL franchise that uses that name.
If you're being serious...The Viqueens is just a nickname used by the NFC North opponents of the Vikings.
Basically, is a gender-swap insult.

Then there is the 'Heidis' in the Metrodome stands.
(Heidis are the fans that where the Viking hats that happen to have long, blond braids. Its suppose to make them look like a Valkerie, but it doesn't work.)

Sometimes I wonder if maybe Warbler is just putting on a show for us.

I will give Warbler this, though. I've known many bandwagon jumpers (people that root for whoever happens to be winning at the time), at least he has the convictions to stick with the Eagles despite their mistakes.
Me...I follow sports and enjoy sports, but for the most part I do not invest myself so emotionally in it. The last time I remember verbally exclaiming joy over sports was during the 2003 NBA lottery for the draft. The moment that Memphis/Detroit (Detroit got the pick conditionally in a trade) was named #2, I knew the Cleveland Cavaliers had gotten Pick #1 and hence, Lebron James.

NES games that you haven't beat

StarFox 64...there's a good game.
I must have beat that 20 times, only 1 or 2, though, were using the ultra-hard path (where we see StarFox Sr.)

I think my high score was over 1000 kills.

Philly should have known what they were getting into when the trade was made to bring in TO. You deal with the devil, you get burned.

Meanwhile, in Titletown USA, the Packers win their first game despite tons of injuries.

Tivo is a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) device with a subscriber service.

The base equipment is basically a VCR that saves to a computer hard drive instead of tape. The advantages are that rewind and fast forward are practically instantaneous and you can save a LOT of stuff on one.

The subscriber service, which requires a phone line/network connection, offers a number of automated features.
There is the TV listings system. Every night, the system downloads the next days lists, so you can browse what is going to be on without a TV Guide.
Also (and this is the big feature), there is the ability to input a show name, and it will do the programming work related to recording every instance of that show. For example, say you want it to record Seinfeld. It will search the TV listings for every Seinfeld show listed, and automatically set itself to record them.

That's too lazy for me. I'm perfectly happy programming what I want recorded. The benefit I have is that I can then burn the stuff to DVD-R...WITH a decent menu system.

Hey Wrbler, if Philly is looking for a replacement GM, you could pick up John Hart...I just saw in the paper today that he's left the Rangers.

He the "mastermind" behind the 1990s Cleveland Indians teams that made it to the World Series...which is better than Philly has done since...1993 when they lost to Toronto.

This is one of the many reasons Ed Wade(The Phillies General Manager) must go. All of Philadelphia wants his butt out of town.
As I recall, Philly booed Santa Claus at an Eagles game once. And the mayor such sounds like an imbecile.
Philly people need to learn to be better judges of character.
